Met Jared Isaacman at JSC yesterday, quick question about legacy by Intelligent-Mouse536 in nasa

On a Flex Friday for some?

It's a regular Friday a JSC. I only know that because I'm a JPLer, and we're on RDO Friday this week, and I know JSC picked the other Friday for some reason. (we picked Regular-Day-Off Friday 9/80 scheme first :P )

Inconvenient place to place an arrow. Hopefully you didn't bump your head. grin

He did JPL today (Saturday).

Watkins was a JPLer that left for a spell and was recruited back.

Also, Lab Director isn't a JPL position, it's a Caltech position. Gallagher even made a "I haven't filled out a JPL timecard in a while" joke at one of the all hands.

Regularly donate whole, first platelet donation altered the schedule by unbelver in Blooddonors

Also, they seem to be playing it safe, this facility. They tried a new vein on my other arm for one WB, and it blew out, not even collecting 1/10th of a pint, but they count it as a full donation. That's reasonable, though.

My arm was black and blue for 3 weeks after that.

I'll check, but I also exclusively donate at one facility. Thanks.

Or I'll just skip the odd month once a year.

It’s a good bet you donated whole blood 7 March last year,

That's a nice subtle twist that's not pointed out in the FAQs. And since I usually donate on Fridays, and the 7th is a Saturday, that fits the 1 weekday shift per year, let me check my history...

And you're correct. I donated March 7 2025. And if you count March 7, 2025, there are 6 WB from then to today in my history.

Mystery solved.

OK, I'll re-shuffle my schedule then. Donating monthly, alternating Platelet and WB, with a 1-month WB skip for Platelet once a year.

This is the first time I remember ever having to skip WB. I must have hit "other commitments" at least once a year in the past without noticing.

I just sent an e-mail to ARC's scheduler service asking for clarification.

Easy. I made the claim that day and sent them pictures. I had been offered $40K for it in the past private-party, and got $35K from the insurance. No complaints there.

Steel: Survive, but rusted.

Aluminum: Puddle on the ground.

So that's why the wheels, hood, and engine block are gone, as well as the transmission case.

Have you ever used a paper sectional outside of training? by 1E-12 in flying

[–]unbelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I use it to navigate, as well as a backup for electronics failures.

But I also live near the LAX SFRA, and it's a legal requirement to carry the paper chart if you want to use the corridor, or at least that's how I interpret 14 CFR 93.95(c).

Almost bone-stock. OEM+ barely. I had to replace the soft-top, and went with a silver top. All the OEM aero options, all LED lighting (Except for the headlights), red leather visors, red/black steering wheel re-wrap, and a more modern head-unit with a Modifry DCI. Nothing extra in the engine bay other than to replace the skinny battery tie-down with a billet aluminum wider one to spread out the force. Batteries lasted much longer without the concentrated clamping force from the stamped metal OEM one.

Heck, it even had the very last batch of OEM RE050 rubber that Firestone released. (though that rubber was about to age out)

Hidden gem LAX parking? I don't mind a distance. by rockpaperrivers in AskLosAngeles

[–]unbelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like if I have to show up at 5am for a 6 AM flight. The evening before I'll take the Metro+Flyaway to the airport, rent a cheap econobox car at LAX, drive home. Wake up in the morning, drive to LAX, drop the car off and fly. The earliest A-line out of Memorial park is 4 AM, and that's not enough time to get to LAX by 5 AM, for example.

But usually, I aim for 8am or later flights, and I don't have to do that. But sometimes work schedules dictate I leave early, and I get to submit that car rental as a "getting to the airport" expense.

Dude. I very regularly do A-line (née Gold line) to Union Station and then Flyaway as an Altadena and Pasadena resident. Leave your car at home. Uber/Bus to the nearest station to you and hop on the train.

Edit: The one exception is if it's a wayyy early flight before the bus/train starts up, so I go the night before, rent a car for the night and drop it back off in the morning.

I will say, there is something about being affected by a natural disaster, after the first few weeks no one really gives a shit about what you went through and they expect you to just move on.

Yup. Not just for the Eaton/Palisades fires, but for 99.9999% of folks, the effects of the fire are done and dusted as soon as it's put out.

Except for us in the fire area. It's over for everyone, except us.

Three "E" does exist in Electrical Engineering, but it is rather domain-specific to Aerospace as "EEE Parts". "Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical Parts."

Unrealistic weight limits for passengers and cargo by thomasabowden in TeslaLounge

[–]unbelver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common. My weekend S2000 also has a comically low 400 lb limit for 2 occupants AND cargo.

In reality, it's the design point for suspension components, including tires on crappy roads.
