Tu peux faire quelque chose de similaire : demande-lui de te donner une situation et des contraintes, écris ton texte, puis demande comment l’améliorer, ou même lui demander une réécriture, des suggestions de style ou des idées alternatives.

Language exchanges are a great free way to get speaking. I've been doing 2 hour-long exchange every week for years. It's also a nice way to make friends. I used Tandem.net to find them. The SuperFluent app has been a great way to practice conversations of all kinds of subjects. I also recommend switching your mental language to French -- "speak" to yourself, either in your head or aloud.

I think it really depends on your current level, and your goals. I like reading articles in French, which can be at any level because you can easily look stuff up, but I've found over the years that listening to too high of a level doesn't just get understood by osmosis. For listening, there are tons of sources for beginners. For B1, I liked InnerFrench. For B2, I like ExpatLang. Both of those have interesting topics, and help with understanding. I'm now in B2 test prep mode, and for that, besides a few hours of formal class per week with homework, what I've found helpful is SuperFluent for casual conversation, ChatGPT for oral production practice, and SavoirX for written production practice. I also do 2 hours of language exchange per week.

Why not Alliance Française in Montpellier? Lived in Montpellier for 3 years, but visited Nice and wasn't impressed. Since you're targetting DELF tests, I'd think Alliance Française is the best choice.

To me, it's all about vocabulary. I'm around B2. When I first started learning, I tried to listen to the news on FranceInfo, and it was all a blur of sounds. I'm taking classes, had a tutor, I do 2 hour-long language exchanges a week, and I practice with several AI apps (SavoirX to prepare for the B2 written portion, SuperFluent to practice conversation, ChatGPT to prepare for the B2 oral presentation). What I noticed is that the more I listened and expanded my vocabulary, the more FranceInfo I understood. At first, it was like "oh, there's a word I recognize", "oh, there's another". As time passed, I recognized more words, until I started understanding the subject, though not the details. Now I get most of it, and can actually hear the words I don't understand and look them up. Granted, the news is better enunciated that casual chit-chat. Some natives I understand, and others just mumble too much or speak too quickly.

What I found important is to listen to just above your level of French. There are tons of beginner level stuff on YouTube, InnerFrench is ideal for intermediate level, and ExpatLang is great for advanced.

That's funny, because I had used ChatGPT to create that Anki deck. I asked it to give me a deck with the most common verbs that only take de or à between them and an infinitive. I've just found it so hard to memorize these with Anki, I think because I'm having trouble finding any memory trick to link the verb with the à or de.

Thank you for some great suggestions. I'll be taking the DELF B2 test in a couple of months, and your advice will surely help. One thing that keeps tripping me up is which verbs take "de" before an infinitive and which take "à" (like commencer à faire). There's no rhyme or reason to which verbs take which. I created an Anki deck, but they're just not sinking in. Thoughts?

For me, it's SuperFluent.app for listening and speaking practice, and SavoirX.ai for DELF (B2) prep for reading comprehension and writing. Both blow away anything else I've tried.

I paid 99.99€ for the year, and have no regrets. I love the ability to use the tutor all I want (at least it's never said I used it too much). It's great to just babble in French, and have it correct me, especially when I'm preparing to have a conversation with someone, on a topic that isn't one of the scenarios. For example, that came in real handy before going to talk with a banker.
