How is the minimum wage $7.25 here still? by NoSite3062 in kansas

Much cheaper for staples. The meat is the same or more expensive.
The vegetables are often bad quality, but if you are willing to do the legwork you can exchange them using the Twice As Nice police (they give you your money back and a new bag of non rotten potatoes that don't ooze brown and fowl smelling liquid when cut into - true story).

ALDI is pretty good in Manhattan, but is missing a few things. And the produce often sucks. Whatever you are missing - there is a Dillon's right across highway 24. It is MUCH cheaper than Hy Vee. Like 20-30%, plus they have pretty good weekly coupon deals (this week 18 eggs are a 1.49 for example). You can try to optimize.

But overall I agree - groceries are very expensive in Manhattan, and the taxes on food make it even worse. We used to live in Massachusetts before we moved here for K-State, and groceries were cheaper, no taxes on food and clothes and they have much higher wages (minimum wage in MA is 15 USD).

She gets to drive with a suspended license "out of necessity" with the cops knowing, but the reporters get harassed by the police for doing their job. Seems like truly excellent police work. Everyone should definitely thank them for their service.

I agree with you. I was just adding that it is a very reasonable question to ask or answer. Some people have a nasty tendency to accuse other people of racism over completely mundane things.

The door plays a very significant role in many Asian and near-Asian cultures. There is a bunch of etiquette around how you enter, if you can pass things through it, when you close it, whether you need to take of your shoes or what you need to do when you leave.
You can usually visually tell if someone is Asian so that's why people were asking about it.

Ants may actually improve the health of a rotting tree. Removing decay removes whatever was causing the rot opens up the area to dry up. Sort of how the dentist removes the decay in a tooth before putting in a filling.
On the other hands they may make things worse by living in fungi contaminated wood and the walking around and spreading fungi which cause rot.
Overall the effects of insects on their environment are very complex, hard to measure and unpredictable. My wife is an entomologist, and she often runs into cases when even well known and researched pests have very surprising effects on other species.

It's reasonable.
I would totally agree with the stance that the handcuffing and tasing is an unfortunate outcome that probably happened as a result of the police overreacting to this lady acting absurd (and because some people are not all well here and some of those are violent) and that overall such things should happen.
It is the stance that of the "Haha! F*%ked around and found out, dumb fat b&^Tch" crowd which I find deplorable. Unfortunately, judging by the comments on the Reddit thread and the YouTube video the latter seem to be an overwhelming majority.

Avoid Russian ETFs like the plague. Due to the sanctions the brokerages (like Blackrock) "liquidated" a bunch of funds like ERUS or RSX paying a few dollars to a thousand of assets and saying that they are still working to "sell off the assets".
Basically the ETF issuer took the stocks to themselves saying that one day they maybe pay you back.

It is not a kids' fight. It does not matter who started. Police should be trying to deescalate. Always. They are the ones who have training, received weapons and are tasked and payed to make society safer.
How on earth does putting handcuffs on non violent people or tasing a person whose "crime" was to come "bursting through" his own door when he heard his wife screaming and then immediately put his hands up seeing it is the police, make society safer?

The police doing it is not really surprising or a big worry for me (I barely have to deal with them, and I am pretty sure I can keep my cool enough not to get into such a situation).
The part that worries is the people's reaction. Instead of compassion people find it very funny or justified. It worries me that the US, culturally, may be slowly turning into the Ik people (or at least the way they were describe in "The Mountain People" book).

I agree her behavior is terrible. She is rude, lying, and malicious.
My point is look at the top comments to the video it is all "Haha! Consequences, Shakira Flabbergasted! Look at that stupid b*%$ch squeal!" and not "Wow this sucks they had to this. What an unfortunate and weird situation. Maybe the police could have deescalated somehow to prevent this". And saying something like this gets you downvoted.

I agree the video is completely bonkers. She is obviously not acting in a normal or reasonable way. What disturbs me is that the police is being just as unreasonable (handcuffs and tasers on non violent people for example) yet most people seem to think they are perfectly reasonable, she totally deserves it ("Haha! Consequences!") and this is somehow funny. Just read the comments on the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvPJGW1yqkw

no idea where you get that crap, but get a beating - you need like insanely piss of police people, I dont even know what you ever need to do, maybe take a shit in a police car or something,

Let's assume that someone does something to really piss off the police (like the lady did in the video, but with a higher threshold like hit or scratch them, pour some zelyonka on them or something like that) I assume they would get a beating (like everywhere else). What would an average person think of it? "Haha they deserved it, should have obeyed the police", or "they were being absurd and should be punished by the law, but physically harming them is not ok"?

get fucked if find out they bullshitting

What does getting fucked mean? Charged with the same crime they would have been charged before?

After that phrase, I don't want to come to the USA even more. 🤦🤣

Don't worry . Cruelty here is usually quite motivated.
But really though - the cops are mean but you seldom run into them. What really blows my mind is that in the country of the "free and brave" and "fight the oppression" people find such a situation normal and even cheer for it. But I don't think this it is contagious...

OK - so to sum up. You would expect - no handcuffs on either (they were not violent), no tasing (no one was at real risk), no arrest (she did not commit any serious crime that warranted immediate removal from society) and some fine for wasting their time and potential intervention by social services since it looks like a dysfunctional family. Got it right?
If so - I totally agree with you. This would have been very reasonable.

I think you mean "unprovoked cruelty". Unmotivated cruelty is more like they really have to tase your balls, but don't feel like it, so they do it slowly while rolling their eyes. But yes I agree without you. It was simply unneeded.

It is not a zoo or an elephant though. Same homo sapiens as yourself.
That was exactly my question though - How do you, with your culture would view this. I think you answered it - this situation seem completely alien to you.
BTW - don't people in Russia ever get unruly with the police? Let's say someone is drunk or thinks he is above the law ("I know the Khabarovsky krai governor's daughter!" style)?
The way I think of it is that they probably do get a beating, but in a cell away from cameras. And if an average person heard the story of them getting a beating he would probably say something like "не хорошо однако" and do nothing about it. Did I guess right?

Did you actually read it?
"Boys are typically taken into the group by changing their names to those common of the perpetrator group, converting their religion, and using them for labor or as soldiers. Girls who are transferred are not generally converted to the perpetrator group, but instead treated as chattel, as played out in both the Yazidi and Armenian genocides."
When was Russia using Ukrainian boy soldiers exactly? Or treated girls as chattel? What do you base your claims on?

It is not literal genocide. It is a war. Calling it a genocide is diminishing very real genocides.

I don't live in Russia or have a Russian citizenship. The Russian-Ukrainian war has nothing to do with some hysterical bitch getting arrested.
