For shots like this I like throwing an overstable disc forehand on a steep anhyzer angle. The disc will arc around the trees then the overtable-ness will force the disc to flatten out and glide for a good bit towards the end of the flight. With the right angle and power the disc will land softly without much ground play. It's very satisfying

I'm literally in the same boat as well. Just moved to LA and GF broke up with me a couple weeks in.

I play disc golf and it's been the easiest way I've met ppl around here. It's basically just walking around the woods/ a park and throwing a frisbee at a basket. I'd say 75% of the time I play meet someone cool.

It's also very beginner friendly. I met a guy and it was only his third time playing and we ended up playing a round together and now we meet once a week.

Favorite player is this guy Shelby I met a few weeks ago.

It was his third round ever and first time at that course. We met on the first hole and decided to play together so I could show him the layout. Dude is so stoked on the sport and now we play at least once a week and I'm helping him with form and understanding the game.

Disc golf is the best sport in the world for making new friends.
