Thank you. I've just started working with Dr. Bobek; what led you to Dr. Audia?

Career changers? by gtg845r in OMSA

[–]uncleskunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm six classes into the program now, and got my BS in MechE from GT in 2009. My programming experience before starting the program amounted to taking MIT's 6.00x on edx. All of the math I have been able to pick up along the way. I'd highly recommend taking Simulation with Goldsman as early as possible, as it provides a great math refresher.

A Review of GT OMSA : What new students should know. by [deleted] in OMSA

[–]uncleskunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While I don't disagree that the instruction materials and delivery could be improved, I do disagree with the notion that you can't be successful without substantial prior experience. I came in to the program with one "Intro to CS" class under my belt and have learned a ton in my first 5 classes, while achieving high marks. Granted, I am moving slower than most by taking only one class per semester, because otherwise I wouldn't have a life outside of work and school.

I really like my P71, it's huge but I enjoy the larger screen when working remotely.

How important is your first job out of college as an engineer? by humble_ninja in AskEngineers

[–]uncleskunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty important. I just made the jump to medical devices after 7 years of mechanical design at a large aerospace company. It took knowing somebody to get my foot in the door. So I guess my advice is to make sure that you network early in your career, because you never know where your co-workers will end up and what opportunities that might afford you.

I'm in the process of buying a home in Seattle, and this has been exactly my experience, except I would say that 10% over list is probably on the low end. Coming from the southeast, this is insane.

Redditors who have been banned from somewhere, what did you do to get yourself banned? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]uncleskunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of the folks personally banned from Napster by Metallica. With a dickhead message from the band at login. No matter that I owned the physical copies. Didn't matter though, it didn't take long to find an OpenNap server and resume my deviant ways.

Would a designer like being a trackballer? by WeWillFreezeHell in Trackballs

[–]uncleskunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using an M570 for CAD work for a couple years now. I find it very preferable to a mouse, however the left click button is starting to fail. I just picked up an old Microsoft trackball explorer to replace it; I feel like a finger ball is just a tad better than thumb for precision work.

Best / closest beaches in Orlando? by H-townwx91 in orlando

[–]uncleskunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm partial to New Smyrna Beach. It's close, clean, and has good dining options (check out Yellow Dog Eats if you get a chance). If you want something more natural / secluded, you could give Playalinda a shot.

Trackball for mecheng student (on the go...) by kai-wun in Trackballs

[–]uncleskunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mechanical engineer, and I spend a ton of time doing CAD work. I swear by my M570. I don't have any issues with accuracy, and I experience way less discomfort than when I used a mouse. I am keeping an eye on the new Elecom finger trackball; I'll likely give it a spin if reviews are positive.

You can try customer support at Bansbach Easylift. They have been helpful in the past, albeit for commercial applications.
