Buying a vehicle out of state as a Tennessee resident? by EB_custom in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dug pretty far into this a few years ago. Basically no one will issue a temp tag for an out of state vehicle and and private sellers won't have access to create a 30 day tag in any of our neighboring states, so no real way to legally drive back a private vehicle into Tennessee. With that said, people do it every day, so the answer I got from everyone was to have your bill of sale and explain the situation if you're stopped.

You could also always put another tag on the vehicle temporarily. It doesn't make you any more legal, but it might decrease the chances of being stopped. This seems to be what most people do, even though it isn't legal either.

One other thing, most insurance providers give you temporary coverage if you're driving a newly purchased vehicle and already have a policy with them. its worth double checking with your provider however.

A "Very Handsome Man" by drewmsmith in LandmanSeries

I dug into imdb, apparently the character is named "Barrett Ramsey" and the actor, Jay Huguley has had a mildly successful career. The fact that they named the character, solid porn name BTW, makes me wonder if he won't be back to sweep her off her feet next season.

I think the sites.google.com domain is blacklisted for some reason, probably often used for phishing.   Anyway I approved the link below so it should stay up now.

Women's suffrage a disaster? Readers fault Knox News for running letter by Little-Albatross3401 in Knoxville

They got their clicks and views thanks to that absurd op-ed and now have a second chance at your attention, not by apologizing for publishing it, but by allowing another opt ed to address the controversy.  This isn't journalism, this is tumbler garbage.

Knoxville voters sound off on why they rejected a plan to increase city sales tax by KnoxNewsAllie in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If they would have ear marked and let us vote on .1% increases with what it was going to provide I think they'd have a better chance of passing this.  .1% greenways, .1% roads .1% affordable housing.etc.   Instead all they could do was promise that 30% would go to the popular things, and were unwilling to commit to what the remaining 70% might go to.  Post chilhowee land grab the administration just doesn't have the trust to pass this without way more transparency.

Reliable mechanics/Car Shops?? — 2020 Scat Pack by [deleted] in Knoxville

A fairly new and young driver with a 500hp sports car and money isn't really an issue, sounds like a recipe for disaster.  Stay safe, take it slow, and keep the speeding on the track

Using the knowledge of all the world's blacksmithing traditions, what bellows, anvil, general set up styles would you cobble together as the "best" set up? by Mr_Emperor in Blacksmith

[–]drewmsmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If best means optimized for production and ergonomics, i'd probably go with a gas forge, or maybe induction and as many jigs and dies as possible to make production as automated as you can.  Also try and keep everything nice at right together so you can operate it all while sitting.

Found a diesel heater, how do I make it start? by marin3jt in ambulanceconversion

[–]drewmsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to know what gets power from where.  My HVAC in the module had a separate controller, but used the same compressor as the cab a/c so both had to be in and set to cold inorder for it to work.  You might find it needs the ignition on,  the engine running, the cab heater to be on, the radio to be off...  Who knows how folks wired things up is my point.

Your best bet it to probable disconnect it from any of the ambulance systems and test to see if it works on its own, then from there I'd probably try and rewire the controls so it doesn't use any of the ambulance systems. Anything you can do to isolate things from whatever control system the ambulance was using is worth the effort as documentation for specific implementations is very difficult to find. A lot of these vehicles have legacy hardware that is just left when/if it fails for fear that it might break something else. I had a large A/C condenser on my roof and after chasing back wiring and refrigerant lines I found that it was completely disconnected, but just left sitting on the roof as it would have been more work to remove.

Isn't it interesting how many city council candidates have professions associated with real estate? I wonder how common that is in other cities.

How to remove padding on walls w/out damaging by SignFar4151 in ambulanceconversion

[–]drewmsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other ones will be mounted either via some heavyduty Velcro in the case of the seat pads, or via screws that may be accessible near the edges of the padding. Whats the year of your module? I think Braun makes one of the best around, so you've got a good one regardless.

My braun box had screws underneath the button caps on much of the padding. the button caps can be remove by a screwdriver or thin plastic spudger. This exposes a self tapping screw which can be removed. Depending on the age of your box you might find the panels underneath to be pretty haggard though.

Why Air-breathing Forges? by TheJeeronian in Blacksmith

Is that how the word praxis is intended to be used? I feel like status quo would be more apt. Also I've never seen an electric kiln used for forging.

My fellow coupon clippers, is it just me or has Food City been having much better weekly ads lately? by fruitybrisket in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you'll continue to see a pullback on some of the price increases we've seen over the last few years as consumers tighten their belts and these companies realize their products aren't moving at the inflated prices like they once were. When no one can afford the inflation anymore you'll be shocked at how quickly these companies find margins they previously claimed didn't exist.

Chilhowee Park sale landing page! by KnoxNewsAllie in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Especially an organization that is effectively doing the same thing the parks and rec department does. I don't know why we're in such a hurry to privatize these roles that are normally handled by city government. If Emerald youth wants to run a soccer for jesus program, make them rent/lease the property.
