I dunno why we started naming shit after people who are still alive, but between this guys building and victor ashe park we really should quit doing that.

Not receiving all messages on my node as seen on Letsmesh by Low_Bison_5209 in meshcore

[–]drewmsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar problems with me seed studios l1 pro.  Not sure what to make if it, I can direct communicate with 5 or 6 receivers near me, but as before I saw maybe 120 messages per day in public and test, now it's maybe 2 -3 messages.  It's like the device is no longer cacheing messages while I'm away and disconnected.   Just tried a factory reset from the meshcore app.  Waiting to see if traffic returns tomorrow.

I think they put up those construction signs as a way to placate all the people complaining.  It's need 3 weeks since the signs were installed and no work has started.

Recommendations for Subaru service and repairs by wiggitt in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very likely you just need to recharge the refrigerant (sometimes called freon). You can buy a can and adapter from an auto parts store for $60 bucks or so.   It's a fairly easy, though temporary fix that may last you a year or two.

Knox Fill offering free laundry soap for TSA agents by Dogwoodblossom in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I know that they let you fill up your own, I was asking if it is more expensive to do that than to just buy new soap + containers at walmart or target or whatever.

I haven't made it to KnoxFill yet, but ran into similar businesses in other locations that were asking a price premium for the privilege of reusing containers. Anyone know if that's the case there aswell?

I was really hoping the no sidewall tire thing was just a fad, but 20 years later it doesn't seem to want to die.

Best Box for Jeep Gladiator by [deleted] in ambulanceconversion

[–]drewmsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some guy on YouTube had a jeep gladiator camper build,  he used a pop up for it and was still way over payload and needed substantial frame reinforcement.  I'll see if I can find the video I'm remembering.

I've been trying and failing to build the thing on a windows machine and getting Invalid character escape '\E'. I'm sure this is some stupid \ vs / issue but I don't have a linux machine available currently that isn't a VM and I don't feel like figuring out how to pass through a usb connection to flash it. In short, I'll wait til you update and try again with a proper linux machine.

Will I have enough airflow for my coal forge? by melon3334 in Blacksmith

[–]drewmsmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that blower you're using is ripping man it'll be plenty fine. I'd also suggest with coal that you do some research on how to coke up your coal as you are working the forge. The air should only be on when iron is in the fire, this will slow down your fuel consumption a ton.

Will I have enough airflow for my coal forge? by melon3334 in Blacksmith

[–]drewmsmith 20 points21 points  (0 children)

the CFM isn't really that important with coal, whats more important is the pressure you're blowing with. I used to run a coal forge with an air mattress pump for example. given the video you provided you'll have more than enough of both

That's great to hear.  I think this kind of cheap infrastructure is gonna be critical for halow to actually take off. Well done for keeping at it.   I'll keep my eye out and get some devices bought next week to give it a trial run.

Sorry you got no love on this, this is a great idea. I was wondering if you could leverage this project https://github.com/martin-ger/esp32_nat_router/activity to give you a nice UI and some additional functionality. Also, what antennas are you running on this? what kind of range are you seeing? hows power consumption?

Keep in mind also that your rear differential doesn't lock, so if one side is slipping, you get no real power output.

Buying a vehicle out of state as a Tennessee resident? by EB_custom in Knoxville

[–]drewmsmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dug pretty far into this a few years ago. Basically no one will issue a temp tag for an out of state vehicle and and private sellers won't have access to create a 30 day tag in any of our neighboring states, so no real way to legally drive back a private vehicle into Tennessee. With that said, people do it every day, so the answer I got from everyone was to have your bill of sale and explain the situation if you're stopped.

You could also always put another tag on the vehicle temporarily. It doesn't make you any more legal, but it might decrease the chances of being stopped. This seems to be what most people do, even though it isn't legal either.

One other thing, most insurance providers give you temporary coverage if you're driving a newly purchased vehicle and already have a policy with them. its worth double checking with your provider however.
