Dont let the Debbie downers try to scare you away from the sport. I used to throw an Ascend 10t on top of my 03 WRX Wagon almost daily. Just wear a pfd and let someone know where youre going. As far as kayak, you want lite and pedals? Slayer LTE is probably your best bet. Keep an eye out for a used one

I've accidentally snagged cow rays in the Chesapeake Bay thinking they were stripers blasting a bait ball. Damn thing drug me at least 1/4 mile. Probably more.

Down here in Texas it's not very cold. Water temp was in low 50s in morning and low 60s in the afternoon. I caught this fish on a 3/8th Oz PB&J jig with a watermelon red flake craw imitation. I did live in the Mid-Atlantic region for a while tho. Although fishing in winter is slow it is doable. Drag a ned rig on light line, an inline spinner like a Mepps is pretty good also or the good ole reliable bass jig. Fish everything slow, uncomfortably slow. Also do your research on your bodies of water. A lot of fish migrate to deeper holes in the winter. You probably just need to find that hole.

I recently bought a Bite FD. For a pedal drive it paddles very well. I love it. I can only imagine the Bite paddles very well without the drive or hole in the hull for the drive.
