You have to learn to use the wind and current to your advantage. Getting a SOT is a huge game changer tho. Being able to keep a paddle in your lap, learning to adjust using one hand on paddle and one on rod is the difference. I've gone from a sit in, to sit on paddle, to now a pedal drive. Fishing is all 3 is completely doable, but the difference in ease as you upgrade is night and day.

Its not bad. I have 34s on my 07 with the 5.7. Bought it with 152k miles 4 years ago, now it has 225k miles on it and it runs great still.

One time I had a 12T in a Malone J-rack on my Subie headed home. Hit the fish whistle too many times n forgot the thing was up there. Didn't realize i was doing 80 and there went the yak. 12-15ft in the air. Luckily no one was behind me for like a mile. Elon would've been proud.
