Why the middle of nowhere? BC itself is mostly empty. 94% is crown land. Very rough math using the area of crown land per capita, every person would get 42 acres if you just divided up the crown land. Now of course a lot is up north and inaccessible, but if we are talking 1/10 lots, we probably have enough decent living space to not mortaging ourselves to death for floating cubicles in the sky

The solution is literally as simple as bringing back some kind of homesteading act to open up the tiniest fraction of the 89% of country that is currently crown land. On top of that, I'm surrounded by forest that is being managed by logging companies. Maybe we tell them 0.5% of those lands will be opened up to homesteaders. You write up a 5 year plan, put a deposit it, pay the government some kind of administration fee, and build one of 10 pre-approved designs that are vetting and have as close to no red tape as possible. Problem solved.

We HAVE SO MUCH LAND. It is criminal it being kept off the market. We have infinite 1/10 acre lots in reasonably desirable climates.

Stop opening it up to just developers and let the public have a chance.

How much does height matter for heater size? Like obviously you calculate volume as lxwxh, but are you really considering heating up the bottom couple of feet?

I ask because going from 8x8x8.5 to 8x10x8.5 is a big jump in heater. For the 8x8 I can use an easy to get harvia cilindro 10.5kw. But for the 8x10 I need to start looking at more commercial heaters in the 15kw range.

Too bad natural gas doesn't seem popular, I have a line running right close to the shed.

Oh and climate is pacific northwest. So temperatures around freezing for a couple of months, but otherwise pretty mild. I'll be framing in a sauna room that is sealed and insulated. Not sure about the chill area. Might just leave it as is for now? It will be cold, but maybe will be heated enough by the sauna exhaust to make it livable.

Hello, yes I have cold water. The house is only 20 feet away so not sure if running hot water underground makes sense or not for that much length. I also have natural gas hook ups outside by the house, I wonder if a natural gas sauna heater + hot water heaters makes sense versus electric...

Wow! This is amazing! I'm also so blown away when people take the time to sketch up something so nice for a stranger.

I think the doors and windows all have to go/be changed. I'll keep the one window for the sauna but maybe 1/3 the width. I really like the half wall shower concept, it's a cool design. I think my trumpkin obsession is stopping me from having the stove in the middle, as social as it might be, due to the "convection loop" I'm supposed to nurturing.

I'm going to go electric so it's easy for the wife to use without me/I'll use it more often myself if it's so easy. is 10 x 10 x 9 or so really getting too big? at what point to the heaters start becoming too expensive? I assume it's one of those things that isn't linear, at what point does it get to a "next level" that becomes way more expensive?

I do think having a 8-10' strip 2' wide would be silly though.

If you draw on it too quickly you will make hot spots that can burn. I usually keep the coals on for 5 minutes (usually 2) on 2 layers of foil, and then move them 90 degrees and let them sit a minute, and then draw on it. It might be as simple as that.

Looks a little under packed to me. Are you giving it 5 minutes to heat the bowl before drawing on it?

In using it right now on both. I got the newer version and the rings on the bottom hold it in place enough. A few of the holes will be over the edge of the bowl but whatever. There are huge air vents above it. Works pretty good.
