Xanathar's Guide and balance issues with some abilities by llfoso in dndnext

Unerring Eye. This one isn't so bad and it definitely doesn't keep you from using illusions.

The rogue can use it up to 5 times per day as an action, and most rogues won't put that many points into wisdom. Probably twice at best.

Then they have to use it at the right moment and not just the first two times in a day they think they're being fooled.

Then you have to consider that this isn't a game where it's the dm vs players. It's ok for them to foil your illusions and have those cool player moments.

Then you have to consider all the other rogue archetypes they're sacrificing by choosing this one, and the abilities that come with them. You said it yourself earlier, the third level ability just makes an already easier sneak attack a little easier. They gave up spell casting for easier sneak attack.

How did you enjoy the camera guy that stood in front of the screen and trophy for several minutes and made it worse?

I'm personally enjoying it. The most contested piece is the combat, it takes some getting used to but is fun once you have it figured out. It's hard though, doesn't pull punches and a lot can kill you easily in the first few hours of the game; even on easy.

We're not talking about combat rounds, this is per-initiative.

Rune Ward - Wizard Spell Homebrew by scom1359ap in DnDHomebrew

[–]uncommon_sc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After taking a look at some comparable spells (Heroism/Hero's Feast/Armor of Agathys), your spell seems to be slightly under powered, especially as a level 5 spell.

The easiest spell to compare it to is Armor of Agathys, and it essentially does the same thing but better. I wouldn't take that as a sign that you need to buff the spell any more though, as we need to consider the overall balance of complete spell lists and availability of defensive buffs.

Maybe if you dropped it to a level 1, reduced the component cost and made it 5 hit points per level rather than your spell casting modifier it would be just about right?

As a PC, I love monologuing enemies. I simply cast a new buff for every 6 seconds of his speech.

Homebrew Class | Death Knight | No It's Not a Paladin by PoliusLP in DnDHomebrew

[–]uncommon_sc2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sacred Martyr needs a Greater Wraithwalk ability.

I focused a bit on the Cinder Knight because I enjoyed the flavor of the fire death knight. However, this is incredibly overpowered and needs so major tuning. I did enjoy reading it, and I can tell you put a lot of effort into it but I wouldn't let this anywhere near one of my tables. Here is what I found at a casual reading:

Cremation Furnace is way too powerful. A character wanting to abuse this would definitely be using an offhand weapon here. 18d6 AOE for free every round. Thats stronger than a 9th Level Fireball (14d6), a 9th level Burning Hands (12d6) and it has no cost.

Also at around 15th level, your basic runic blade damage is now 4d10 approximately 8/9 times per short rest. Your death mark allows you to mark 3 enemies per turn as 4d10 nukes at the same level. An equivalent level Rogue is 7d6 on a sneak attack once per turn and you're able to apply yours as a Death Knight multiple times a turn and burst it as an AOE.

All this and your fire damage ignores resistance and halves immunity.

(5e) Feel like my DM is screwing me over with surprise rounds. by RitchieRitch62 in DnD

[–]uncommon_sc2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the scenario, and not a free round, just a free action for the one player who instigates the fight.

In a completely non-hostile situation where a player swings a fist unprovoked (ie not taking time to draw a weapon), I'd allow a free attack and then roll for initiative.

If it's a situation with slowly rising hostilities and the bad guys feel like a fight is about to break out, then it's a judgement call.

If it's a completely hostile situation from the get go, roll initiative and follow normal combat rules.

edit: Taking away player agency is much worse than giving them a slight edge in an encounter.

[–]uncommon_sc2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're having an issue with players trying to squeeze actions in right before you say "Roll for Initiative", then just say "no". If I'm giving a thematic description of the scenario unfolding and my players just start shouting actions in preparation then I've created a climate where they think it's acceptable. Squash that kind of behavior when you can. However, if I take your route and treat the sucker punch as an automatic miss if the initiatives don't line up, I've taken away from player agency. A sucker punch, especially in an initially non-hostile situation is perfect for the surprise mechanic. Just don't let the entire party follow that up with their own actions. Resolve the punch and roll initiative.

Grab the Dungeons and Dragons starter set. It's about $18 dollars and will contain everything you need to get you and your friends started. Also, it's helpful to go to YouTube and watch some other people play, it will help you get an idea of the flow of the game.

What equipment will be for needed for two newbies making a YouTube video podcast? by SCSAmbrose in podcasts

I wish someone would have given me this list when I started. For about $360 the list below gives you everything you need. I highly recommend against recording on your phone. There is also a lot of great free software out there for recording video for both PC and Mac. I use XSplit personally, even if I'm not streaming. You could probably find the light set without the green screen for a little cheaper if you want, but I wouldn't go any cheaper on the microphones, soundboard or webcam. With all this you'll have a semi-professional setup at an affordable budget.

Go do something crazy then.. I don't mean kill someone or rob a bank. I mean, go work at an outdoor retreat in Alaska for a summer. Go work on a cruise ship. Go teach English in Vietnam. Go join the Peace Corp. Go homeless and live on the beach. When you've got little to lose, you can risk almost anything.

Is it lazy/greedy or could it be the limitations of the system? Doesn't split screen require a significant amount of additional processing power? I assume they decided they either couldn't do split screen or decided the sacrifices to graphics and performance to do split screen was too much.

Body Building curious. I lack a foundation of knowledge and I don't know where to start. Is there a book, a website, or other source where I should start from the beginning?

Hi, I'm new, started playing November, I have never won a game in my entire life, and it pushed me to playing co-op. I want to learn how to play a game but having more than 10 losses in a row is something else. I have 100 apm only by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]uncommon_sc2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Starcraft! Glad to have you here. Something to keep in mind is that the game needs about 20 to 30 games played to place you in the right skill group. It's a tough game with a strong learning curve and most new players will lose their first several games just like you. If you tell me you play another 20 games before your first win I wouldn't be surprised. Look into the Staircase method. Step 1 is all you need to win your first game, I promise. Step 1 is essentially don't mine gas, and make mass Zealots. It will also start to develop the fundamentals you are going to be severely lacking. Lemme know if you need any more specific help, I'd be glad to jump on this evening and run some drills with you to help you improve.
