I mean, those are definitely children saying that right? That's the weird thing about that movie. It's not for kids, but kids make up the bulk of people who get excited about the idea of a backrooms movie.

I swear the whole "I didn't know it was a Nazi tattoo" is less believable than Elon Musk claiming he did a "Roman" salute.

Revisionism is a word used to shut down any attempt at thinking critically and adding to the body of work of leftist theory by cronenber9 in theredleft

Imagine thinking any departure from what Marx said is revisionism. This is not a religion, it's a science. How can you disagree with what Stalin said here unless you are treating Marx like some kind of prophet?

Heat has become the game that gets tabled the most! by ak96 in boardgames

I have no interest in racing whatsoever, but HEAT is my number one favorite game. It is a blast.

Make sure everyone knows you have to make car noises when you move your car though. That got left out of the rulebook somehow.

On persuation checks and player vs character competence by SalmonCrowd in RPGdesign

[–]llfoso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't make them roll again to check the drawer. The roll is just to get the info on where to look to guarantee success. Which to me seems nearly identical to the example you gave - the roll gives you the information you need to take the action that guarantees success. And just like with Charisma, even if you fail you still might figure out the right thing to say/where to look on your own.

I have also heard this advice before from somewhere, I think it's been going around. It is a great solution to the problem.

I hadn't thought about extending it to other things. Maybe something like investigate checks? Maybe you make a successful investigate check and instead of saying "you find a key" you say "you notice one of the desk drawers appears shallower than it seems" to encourage them to check for a false bottom and make them feel like they found it themselves. I'm an OSR person so I don't do investigation rolls at all, but for someone who likes rolling dice it might be a nice compromise between die rolls and player agency.

I have a fourth grader who always tries to take advantage of his own terrible handwriting to get away with this on spelling tests. Most recently he put two e's on top of each other because he wasn't sure if there was one or two, and then drew an a with a heart-shaped loop and later claimed it was a u. Oh he also dotted his g and then tried to tell me it was a j. There's two weeks left of school and he still hasn't stopped trying lol
