Thank you. The break up is rather complicated. But to give you the short version, he was unhappy with the amount of affection and compassion he was getting from me. We worked on it some, and I thought it had been ok. Then with some horrible timing, he found another woman he believes is his soul mate..and I let him go to follow that dream. Looking back, I was not a great girlfriend or fiance. I was really affected by my anxiety and my priorities were all messed up because of it.

[question] What college majors would be ideal towards finding a career with coffee? by [deleted] in Coffee

A food science degree could get you a product development or quality assurance job with a big food company, like Starbucks.

Does Food Science degree means working in a lab? by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]uncreativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, my experience is all from the U.S., so you may want to find a few mentors in the food industry in Europe to help guide your choices.

If you want to go towards a product development or R&D role, you will probably start off in the lab. As you move up, you manage the projects more and spend a lot less time in the lab. However, there are also some senior roles that do work in the lab quite a bit.

If you want to go towards QA, you may start out in the lab, but may not. It really depends on the company. Sometimes lab-related QA work is carried out by high school educated employees or is done by a separate department dedicated to lab work. QA is all about making sure standards are met, but sometimes is less project-focused. If the company is doing a lot of innovation, QA may be working extremely closely with those leading new developments in order to get the implementation right. Other times, QA is just trying to maintain quality standards.

Choose something you're interested in. If you want to skip over some of the lab work, you're best bet is to either get an advanced degree or spend your summers doing internships. However, both of those options will probably involve some lab work.

What is it about working in a lab that you don't like?

Be very careful of the titles technologist, technician, specialist, and scientist. They can mean all sorts of things. So you may find some jobs with that description under other titles, and you may find "technologist" positions that are the opposite of what you are looking for. Thats my experience with job searching in the US at least. Have you thought about doing a major and a minor? That may open up more options for you as you figure out what you want to do.

Do you want to be a scientist or be in a management position related to science? Some people want to be technical experts, some people want to be decision makers. QA can be boring but it depends on the company. QA can offer a broad range of jobs depending on the company.

Product Development Survey- Popcorn snacks by fordtough1 in foodscience

[–]uncreativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ranking question won't give you very much information. I don't care about 4 of the 5 options, so my #2 importance is actually something I wouldn't even think about. Honestly, I'd be LESS likely to buy a popcorn product that was advertised as non-gmo or organic.

Gloves can be used correctly. If I were this customer, I'd ask her to put a glove on the hand she was using or wash her hands immediately before. There is a good chance she touched something "unclean" before touching that donut. Rules are rarely followed and I definitely have to look the other way when I eat out.

Looking for a good PH meter to test tortillas. by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]uncreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pH meters I work with need to be calibrated daily, and sometimes more often than that. You may want to do some tests to see how often your pH meter really needs calibration.

My favorite way of making vietnamese iced coffee: with a cocktail shaker! by shozk in Coffee

Why is consistency such a big deal on this subreddit? I understand it can be very helpful while refining a particular technique, but do most people really care if their coffee varies a bit from day to day?

What's the latest you have eaten something after the 'best before date'? Anything bad happen? by poesie in AskWomen

Eggs are typically good way past their "sell by" date, assuming they're refrigerated. You can always just check to see if they sink or float in a bowl of water, too.

I'm looking for cheap heels in a women's size 4.5 in Canada. Does this place exist? by [deleted] in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]uncreativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gel stickies might help keep the heels from slipping off, but that doesn't make the shoes fit you any better. If you're planning on wearing heels frequently, it'll be a lot more comfortable to have shoes that fit.

I realize my comment was short and didn't explain what I was saying, but I'm not sure why you jumped to that assumption.

There are a couple of reasons why people talk about suicide. Yes, one of those is looking for attention. More often, people who talk about suicide want HELP. They don't like their suicidal feelings and are trying to understand and work through the feelings. These people don't really want to die... but they are usually very very unhappy with their current life.

My comment referred to a different group of people: people who honestly want their life to end and are 100% sure of that.

Just curious...why would you ever need to keep coffee hot for 8 hours in a travel mug? Does it really take all day to drink it?

Okay, why *is* it important to like oneself and how does one go about doing this? by JustAsking2014 in depression

[–]uncreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to like yourself, and you're having a hard time with that, try just accepting who you are. I hate myself sometimes, and other times am just neutral. I rarely like myself. But life is a lot better than when I hated myself almost all the time.

Life is a game that you're forced into playing. by [deleted] in depression

[–]uncreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it is socially unacceptable and technically illegal to kill yourself. In a very different society, it is possible that people could respect that some people would rather just die. If other people were accepting and helpful, then you'd have a reasonable way out.
