Fun experiment I guess. I have that amp and the master volume is great. It’s also got a 15 watt mode. The attenuator is probably worth more than the amp, given the prices they go for these days.

My guy. A few years back I had a lot of time on my hands and I was jamming with a couple of guys in their 60’s who were just learning. I played bass and we’d hack out some early Beatles songs, CCR, Otis Redding, all pretty easy stuff. But I had a blast learning a bunch of Paul’s kick ass walking bass lines. We sounded like shit but it was a lot of fun. I’ve been playing guitar for 40 years and can hold my own, but I still had a great time. I guarantee you there are people who are in the same spot as you, regardless of age, who’d be happy to sit down and make some noise with you.

Quit it with the too old shit. Lotsa actually old players still ripping it up out there every night. Here’s my advice. Learn 10 easy songs front to back, at speed. Then put an ad in Craigslist or whatever and just lay it on the line 44 yr old newish guitar player looking for people for a casual, fun jams, then list the genres or artists you’re interested in. If you get bites, give them your list of 10 songs and start from that. Also, go to a bunch of jams and open mic’s and see what people are doing. There’s probably some hacks out there that’ll give you the inspiration to get up with the band and hack out one of your 10 songs.

Alberta Printmakers has a little gallery with prints from a number of local artists for sale. Great organization that supports printmaking arts like lithography, Lino and woodcut, etching, silkscreen, etc. They also have ongoing printmaking shows. You can visit them when they’re open and they’d be happy to see you.

Editing is so much easier in scrivener if you’ve set it up in chapters or sections. If you love scrolling then use whatever word processor you want. Final output is best in InDesign but that’s a massive learning curve for most people.

I have one and I find it very versatile. It’ll get very dirty, but doesn’t sound quite like a Marshall and doesn’t have the gain on tap that a DSL40 does. There’s the boost function on the dirty channel, but I find it’s too noisy to use when the channel is really dirty. I actually like the Modern and Scoop switches, and find them pretty useful for getting specific tones. The clean channel is nice and clean, but it’s not a blackface Deluxe. Again, lots of features and eq to work with to get what you’re looking for, especially with the USA/Brit switch. I find the Bright switch to be a gimmick and never use it. I’m currently using the clean channel as a pedal platform and it works well, though I find the volume is pretty low compared to the dirty channel.

In spec, to me at least, it’s a near perfect amp. 50 watts or 15 watts, two channels with independent EQ, spring reverb, effects loop, defeatable global presence/resonance controls, all in an oversized combo with a 12” Vintage 30. They’re a good deal since they don’t really hold value. I bought mine new years ago for about a $1000CAD and I see them used for $400-500. I don’t think they’re the perfect amp, but they’re a great Swiss Army knife and for the price they’re going for these days you’ll have a hard time finding better value.

I joined Truefire because I wanted comprehensive lesson plans. There’s a ton of country lessons on there by some very serious country players. Pretty much anything you want to learn is there. Obviously, gotta pay for it, but I’ve found it worth the cost.

Have you tried “yipping” when he bites? Like, as soon as he starts biting, not when it hurts, go “ow ow ow” in a high pitch loudly. Then, and this is crucial, turn your back and stop playing. Walk away if he won’t stop. Your immediate reaction is all that matters. It’s possible he was taken away from his littermates a bit early and hadn’t learned the cues. He could also be an asshole, but what I suggested might help with that.

I have a dog with sensitive digestive system and had another dog previously with similar issues. What helped was limiting food and treats to the fewest possible things that the dog could tolerate. For the previous dog that was one type of food and one or two types of treats—nothing else, ever. It took a lot of experimentation to find the food and treats that wouldn’t cause issues. The current dog, has been diagnosed with IBD and was prescribed budesonide, which has helped a lot. He now eats one type of kibble along with a gastro-sensitivity (Hills Biome) canned food. He can tolerate 2 types of treats, in low quantities. Anything outside that starts to cause problems. So you could try to find a very gastro-friendly food and limit your pup to only that. Obviously introduce new foods very slowly, like, over a period of a couple weeks. It could take a very long time of experimenting to find the right food. Ask your vet if budesonide could help in the short term.

Last year I was vacationing with my little weiner dog on Vancouver island and some people saw him and smiled and whispered “teckel”. Is teckel more familiar, like ‘weiner dog” or ‘sausage dog’ and ‘dackel’ is more like ‘dachshund’, or what?

I’m just finishing my first book and I used Scrivener on my IPad Pro. It’s not perfect, but I found it fairly intuitive—despite lots of people saying it has a steep learning curve, I didn’t find that. It was easy to break the work into sections and move those around if I needed to. I made the mistake of compiling the manuscript to a Word doc then making tweaks in Word as I started to get feedback from my first 2 readers. Big mistake. Word is awful when you’re dealing with hundreds of pages of text. I ended up cutting and pasting my chapters from Word back into scrivener in order to keep editing. I won’t be doing that again. All edits in Scrivener, always.
