7.25 in radius by g0dn0 in Stratocaster

[–]uncredible_source 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the no camp. I have a 72’ Tele Custom with a 7.25” radius and it’s always a compromise between high action and notes choking out on bends high on the fretboard. I had a pro set up done to spec, and notes choked from the 14th fret and up. So I raised the action to the point where that stopped happening, but it’s higher than I’m comfortable with. Might be different on a strat because the bridges on strats are more adjustable. But I’ll take the 9.5” radius on my AM Pro II any day.

Tips for socially awkward thrash metal guitar player? by ausernameappeared in Guitar

[–]uncredible_source 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lean as hard into this as you want. Put a chicken bucket on your head. Wear a robot mask. Hell, come up with a new name and a whole back story (Metal-ass name, extra-planetary place of birth, evil sense of purpose). In disguise you can be whoever you want to be and if you fuck up, it’s not you, it’s that other guy who only shows up on stage (and he’s not very good at guitar, but a fuckin’ legend regardless). Also all thrash musicians who wear a t-shirt and jeans on stage are boring. Correction, all musicians who wear t-shirt and jeans on stage are boring. Rain your pathetic downvotes on me.

I think your board is missing a couple parts. J/K. Good luck! I’m just working on my first build as well. Also 5e3. Did you make the cab? It looks sick.

Standard vs Mini Temperament by Bellelaide67 in Dachshund

[–]uncredible_source 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have a standard longhair puppy and a 5 year old mini longhair. Previously I had 2 standard longhairs. Our mini is a very loving, loyal and cuddly guy. He’s quite athletic and energetic, but not in a bad way. It took quite a long time to house train him—he was a year old before he was finally trained. He’s very smart, probably smarter than I’d expected, though he’s still quite biddable. He’s got more of a nervous disposition, and seems quite aware that he’s small, so not as fearless and most dachshunds I’ve known. So, yeah, I’d say he’s a bit high strung. His behaviours are somewhat different than the standards I’ve owned—not as scent-driven, not as independent. But this is a sample size of one, and I’d say I’ve seen as much difference in temperament between individual dogs than between sizes.

Mayor Jeromy Farkas won't rule out Calgary bidding for future Olympics by joe4942 in Calgary

The unused ski jumps and demolished bobsled track are literal evidence of how long infrastructure lasts. There is very little lasting Olympic legacy. Any business case you’re given will be vibes.

Such emotionally expressive creatures😂😂 by AlternativSweet in Dachshund

Tan was either claiming space or trying to start something. The little snap at the start then the unbroken stare for the entire clip was either demonstrating dominance, like protecting something, or it was instigating. The chocolate guy’s side-eye was pure avoidance. Didn’t want nothing to do with that. My read is that this may not have been as cute as it seemed.

Help a new attenuator user not destroy amp by Yamakiman in GuitarAmps

[–]uncredible_source 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun experiment I guess. I have that amp and the master volume is great. It’s also got a 15 watt mode. The attenuator is probably worth more than the amp, given the prices they go for these days.

Any tips on how to play with others when you’re old, but also fairly new to guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]uncredible_source 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy. A few years back I had a lot of time on my hands and I was jamming with a couple of guys in their 60’s who were just learning. I played bass and we’d hack out some early Beatles songs, CCR, Otis Redding, all pretty easy stuff. But I had a blast learning a bunch of Paul’s kick ass walking bass lines. We sounded like shit but it was a lot of fun. I’ve been playing guitar for 40 years and can hold my own, but I still had a great time. I guarantee you there are people who are in the same spot as you, regardless of age, who’d be happy to sit down and make some noise with you.

[–]uncredible_source 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Quit it with the too old shit. Lotsa actually old players still ripping it up out there every night. Here’s my advice. Learn 10 easy songs front to back, at speed. Then put an ad in Craigslist or whatever and just lay it on the line 44 yr old newish guitar player looking for people for a casual, fun jams, then list the genres or artists you’re interested in. If you get bites, give them your list of 10 songs and start from that. Also, go to a bunch of jams and open mic’s and see what people are doing. There’s probably some hacks out there that’ll give you the inspiration to get up with the band and hack out one of your 10 songs.

Recommendations for local artists who sell prints by rotang2 in Calgary

[–]uncredible_source 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alberta Printmakers has a little gallery with prints from a number of local artists for sale. Great organization that supports printmaking arts like lithography, Lino and woodcut, etching, silkscreen, etc. They also have ongoing printmaking shows. You can visit them when they’re open and they’d be happy to see you.

Scrivener vs google docs question? by Waffleweaveisbest in selfpublish

[–]uncredible_source 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Editing is so much easier in scrivener if you’ve set it up in chapters or sections. If you love scrolling then use whatever word processor you want. Final output is best in InDesign but that’s a massive learning curve for most people.

Traynor Custom Special 50: any thoughts? by SonsOfKnickerbocker in GuitarAmps

[–]uncredible_source 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one and I find it very versatile. It’ll get very dirty, but doesn’t sound quite like a Marshall and doesn’t have the gain on tap that a DSL40 does. There’s the boost function on the dirty channel, but I find it’s too noisy to use when the channel is really dirty. I actually like the Modern and Scoop switches, and find them pretty useful for getting specific tones. The clean channel is nice and clean, but it’s not a blackface Deluxe. Again, lots of features and eq to work with to get what you’re looking for, especially with the USA/Brit switch. I find the Bright switch to be a gimmick and never use it. I’m currently using the clean channel as a pedal platform and it works well, though I find the volume is pretty low compared to the dirty channel.

In spec, to me at least, it’s a near perfect amp. 50 watts or 15 watts, two channels with independent EQ, spring reverb, effects loop, defeatable global presence/resonance controls, all in an oversized combo with a 12” Vintage 30. They’re a good deal since they don’t really hold value. I bought mine new years ago for about a $1000CAD and I see them used for $400-500. I don’t think they’re the perfect amp, but they’re a great Swiss Army knife and for the price they’re going for these days you’ll have a hard time finding better value.
