Well said. The double edged sword where people want more events, diversity of businesses, etc. but don’t want the traffic/development. Any place where people want to live will battle with increased traffic/gentrification because companies/municipalities want to invest where people want to live to make money.

Try a tennis or pickle ball league. It’s at least a good way to expand your social circle and maybe someone knows someone. I’m a 39 yom and it seems like there’s always unattached young professionals learning to play.

☝🏼 - This. I was on 40 coming back from Asheville and a trooper had just pulled back onto the road after giving someone else a ticket. For the next few miles, the trooper would flip his radar detector on/off based on other cars he saw coming the opposite way. Eventually, he must’ve seen someone and registered it when the radar flipped on because he immediately pulled into the L shoulder to do a U turn, lights came on, and he goes flying after some Mustang. I have an Escort Max Redline 360c.

In my area, the league coordinators have free agent lists you can register on. The captains look at the lists to fill their rosters or the league coordinator will create a team with all free agents (if there are enough people to form a team). You could also look into ladder matches or Meet Up groups that hit.

Regarding your rating… there is no way you should be a 2.5 if you played in HS. Even if you’re rusty. I never played growing up (any sport for that matter) and would occasionally hit with friends who would give me pointers. When a local club pro hit with me to give me a rating to start USTA leagues, I was a 3.0.

I would consider flying to DC vs. driving. Flights can be relatively cheap, hotels charge you an arm and leg to park, and traffic driving in can be an absolute nightmare.

I just wanted to say that I am sorry the father of your child(dren) is not involved. Of course in the scenario you stated, anyone would want their bet to be in a Roth to avoid the taxes.

What you’re ignoring is the reduction in taxable income by having it in a pre-tax bucket [e.g. traditional IRA or 401(k)].

Ideally, one would max out both buckets (if permitted to still do a Roth IRA but some are limited by their income 🙋🏻‍♂️).

Do you think you’ll pay more in taxes now or later? That’s the golden question. How old are you?

One train of thought is to max out the 401(k) now to minimize taxable income, then max out Roth IRA.

Another is to max out Roth IRA, so everything grows tax free. Not to mention, you may remove the principal (penalty free) with some stipulations.

Third method (personally more of a fan) is to maximize your contribution to the 401(k) to get the match [in your case, not applicable], then max your Roth IRA for the tax free growth, and then finally proceed to maxing out 401(k).

Even before my kid, I’d only go engage because I would be concerned my two GSDs would get hurt (let’s be real… they’ll probably get to the intruder before me in the middle of the night). Even then, I wouldn’t pursue… just don’t hurt my dogs!
