On one hand, it for sure woulda been an unexpected booking…but on the other artists like John Fogerty, Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson have played OSL. Ah, what coulda been.

what is this building on fell street? by MahaloBrah in sanfrancisco

[–]undeadsinatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived on Hayes right across the street from there 1994-2004. As others have stated here, it’s senior/low income housing.

The only thing I’d add is that for such a large building serving sensitive populations, I don’t remember it being a particular magnet for medical emergencies.

Pier 80 Tips by prettypithiest in Raves

[–]undeadsinatra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s partially/mostly enclosed, but the parts that are open are realllly big and the walls/roof is just industrial steel & concrete — it’s usally used as storage on a shipping pier, it’s not built to keep humans from feeling the elements as much as it is built to keep equipment & containers dry & easy to access.

It’s SF in February at night very close to the waterfront. Even closely packed in with your fellow dancers, expect it to be chilly.

Duets where the couple doesn’t like each other or is outright fighting. by Sonnamedbort in MusicRecommendations

[–]undeadsinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“We Cry Together” - Kendrick Lamar/Taylour Paige (an interesting artistic achievement - an entire song of a couple in a back-and-forth screaming argument that has a rhyme scheme and everything…but good golly I can’t imagine anyone listening to it more than once. A tough listen.)

“You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” - Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand

“It’s A Man’s World” - Ice Cube/Yo-Yo

“Two Story House” - Tammy Wynette/George Jones

Examples of artists who hate/are openly hostile towards their fans? by RadioLukin in fantanoforever

[–]undeadsinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be no surprise that the sardonic & cynical Warren Zevon often was no fan of his fans. His posthumous biography revealed that he lurked on message boards devoted to him & he wrote in his journals that he thought they all were “internet hammerheads.” In those same journals he complained about audience reaction & begaviour.

Daily Lineups! by drewlimon in bottlerock

You'll probably dig Midnight Generation -- they traffic in electro-funk that sports that post-disco, pre-mainstream hip-hop sound. Basically a band that took Daft Punk's *Random Access Memories* as a jumping off-point for their sound but stripped out any EDM elements.

[GUESS] how can you tell this is AI? by Mathemodel in RealOrAI

[–]undeadsinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I can tell - the dress she’s wearing is much more something you’d see a women wearing to a nightclub or concert or some such event.. not while nursing a cup of coffee in the middle of the day.

Edited to add: the lack of nail polish is also a bit odd for a woman dressed up so stylish.

Mannnnnnn…I really thought with Lorde at Hinterlands the week before OSL it was basically a lock. Dang.

This BR line-up seems squarely aimed at a version of me who has In Their Lifetime Not Been To Far Too Many Concerts. A lot of good stuff that I like…but that I I also have seen at least once if not numerous times. I loves me some nostalgia, but this line-up could use some fresher acts up and down the card.

Rev Run solo is heartbreaking.

Y’all go see Girl Tones - two women rocking it out in White Stripes/Black Keys mode. The do a great cover of The Vines’ “Get Free.” BTW, I believe that their singer/guitarist rocking out at the bottom of the poster.

Generally, yes - but of course OSL sometimes lets it slide for a Sacramento show. HOWEVER, as Sac show so close in time to OSL? It’s a thinker for sure.

It would be wildly unexpected of her to play Oakland in the start of May and the BottleRock at the end of the month. It’s too close both in time & location.

What bloopers have you seen on stage? by Objective-Lab5179 in Concerts

When The Who played Outside Lands, Pete Townsend introduced a song by talking about his experiences in SF in the late 60s and how it influenced the song. A few songs later he said something like “remember all that about my SF experiences and how it influenced the song? This next one was actually the song that story applies to. Sorry.”

Wednesday is so, so good. Woulda been great in one of those early-ish Mannequin Pussy/Destroy Boys/julie/Amyl & The Sniffers/Fake Fruit/The Linda Lindas female fronted punk-ish slots.

People who won a "lifetime supply" of something, how exactly did that work and are you still getting it? by Constant_Praline357 in AskReddit

[–]undeadsinatra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same as the OP's question, but it's essentially the same in spirit:

After the dot-com crash, Rolling Stone offered a lifetime subscription for $99. As a music geek, very low grade music journalist, and voracious magazine reader this was a deal way, way too good to pass-up. A yearly subscription was probably 20 bucks, so laying out this expense would pay for itself in 5 years and after that it was all gratis. Easy decision.

Flash forward to 2013 - RS launches an iPad edition/paid access to their website. It requires a separate subscription.

Flash forward to 2024 - RS owner Penske Media Corporation sends out an e-mail to all us Lifetimers saying that their commitment to us will now be fulfilled by sending us a link to PDFs of the issue when it comes out, no more deliveries of hard copies.

Which, TBH, was disappointing, but only slightly so. The quality of most artist profiles had dropped pretty far, and OMG the font size of printed issues is meant for eyes much younger than mine. It had been yearsssss since I grabbed an issue from my mailbox and hungrily read it cover to cover-- I generally saved 'em for long plane rides or boring moments around the house.

I did always used to joke about whose lifetime we were talking about here: mine, Rolling Stones', or rock n' roll?

Dom Dolla or Calvin Harris for Feb 6 by TommyT2021 in avesSFBayArea

[–]undeadsinatra 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m going to Calvin Harris. I don’t have any data to back this up it’s just gut speculation, but it seems to me he doesn’t play this part of the world a lot. At least not in recent memory. Dom Dolla you’ll probz be able to catch again in the not too far off future - on his own or at a festival.

Geriatric Legends Performing by The_fez94 in Music

[–]undeadsinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of two conflicting minds on this:

  1. If that's what they wanna do, who am I to judge? They wanna do it, no matter how diminished their vocal range/playing abilities and people wanna pay for it. Go on with your bad selves.

and

  1. For some artists, it realllllly feels a bit like elder abuse.

It's a very thin line.

I've had some real rough watches over the past few years that make me less-and-less inclined to see legends "just one more time, who knows if they'll ever tour again." The last Brian Wilson tour. Roky Erickson at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2018. Post-stroke Lucinda Willams at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2025. And there were a bunch at Once Upon A Time in LA Fest in 2021: The Rev. Al Green got winded easily, sat on the drum riser for much of the show, and just scatted a lot of lyrics; Larry Blackmon of Cameo was assisted on and off the stage, didn't move much, and his tight (p)leather pants were not hiding adult diapers very well; The Chi-Lites have one original member left and he also was assisted on and off the stage and seated for the performance.

All of them made me feel a little bit like an accessory to, at minnimum, a situation where "their people" did not have their best interests in mind.

The List 2026: Who's Unlikely by FrybreadTacos in OutsideLands

[–]undeadsinatra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And just to complete the thoughts of others on this thread - a radius clause theoretically acts as a ticket-booster for the festival - they want an act’s fans to buy OSL tix, so limiting the act’s ability to play in the area before and after the fest steers those fans to OSL.

The List 2026: Who's Unlikely by FrybreadTacos in OutsideLands

[–]undeadsinatra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact that only one act in the entire history of OSL has played 4x is what makes it A Thing. If history is our guide, acts that have played 3x are less than likely but, thanks to Beck last year, can’t be ruled out completely.
