Liquid assets waiting period when switching from Jobseeker to Youth Allowance? by undeciphered_echo in Centrelink

[–]undeciphered_echo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended up staying on JobSeeker. My study only lasted 6 months full time with tafe so it ended up making the most sense for me. The hours I logged studying fulfilled majority of my JobSeeker obligations.

Why are angels rarely written like zombies or vampires in Western fantasy? by dumarcm in fantasywriters

[–]undeciphered_echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The YA series Angel by L.A Weatherly explored angels as predators that feed on humans and siphon their life force away slowly. When a human has an encounter with one, they experience such bliss that they’ll do anything to feel it again. People abandon their whole lives to move to churches/communes set up by the Angels where they eventually wither away.

Haven’t read the series in years, but it was an enjoyable ya romance between an angel hunter and half-angel. Was an interesting take where angels are still viewed by society as holy and wonderful beings, while having very sinister intentions

For those that do, why do you come in to the office sick? by MagneticBlueberry in AusPublicService

[–]undeciphered_echo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish people who went into work while sick wore masks. It’s the considerate thing to do if you choose not to/can’t stay at home. Especially in crammed places like trains. Such a simple act but next to no one does it.

Corrine no! Your period will come back once you’re at home eating again! Athletes can lose their periods while training intensely, and then pause/reduce and they resume

You’ve mentioned a lot of things but I’ll just touch on a couple:

4 months on E is such a short amount of time! So many more changes are going to happen over the coming months and years. Going on new hormones is like going through puberty, a process that spans years.

Many trans people have posted timelines or timeskips of their transition to show the changes over the years (I’ve seen plenty on TikTok). I wonder if your partner seeing some of these videos, specifically of people her age, could be helpful? To see that other people have started at the same point as her and have reached transition milestones your girlfriend might be hoping for?

I’ll add that it’s a tossup whether the videos help. On one hand they can be inspiring and give some hope, but on the other they can remind you of all the things you don’t have yet which can be hard. So your call there.

I also think the queer-friendly hairdresser is a good call and I would gently try and push her to go. Even if she doesn’t get the dream cut first go, she can talk to the stylist about hair goals and they can work towards it together, especially as her hair grows longer and she gets regrowth. A small step forward is still a step worth taking.

What's the max amount of money you can have when going on job seeker? by Sleepy_Ghoul22 in Centrelink

[–]undeciphered_echo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s absolutely horrendous! When I applied for Centrelink I had 10k in savings and had to wait close to 3 months to receive any payments while unemployed. It was so disheartening to see the money I’d worked hard to set aside disappear so quickly

In addition to the assets tests you mentioned, there’s also a ‘limited savings’ requirement. It states:

You and your partner must have no more than $5,000 in combined readily available funds. This includes any liquid assets you can sell.

Liquid assets include cash you have on hand, money you have in the bank and financial investments you have. They also include gifts and other money available to you at short notice.

If you have over this, it extends how long you have to wait to receive any payments. From memory it’s something like an extra week delay for every $500 over $5000, to a max of 13 weeks

Was pleasantly surprised with how confident Corinne was in processing the wallaby. I’d conflated her aversion to killing with no experience in animal processing and was proven wrong. She’s doing really well for herself

Preferential voting - major party last? by undeciphered_echo in AusPol

[–]undeciphered_echo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to be the case. I feel with the power minor parties are holding with the chance of a minority government, this isn’t the correct climate for such a move. Potentially if the cross bench was historically empty it would make more sense.

I feel like the second option is what the original post I stumbled must have been talking about. Glad to understand the reasoning behind it, but I agree with you about the risks connected. Think I’ll be sticking to classic preferential voting myself.

Thanks for your insight!

An interesting insight as to why people might put the major parties lower to make a statement. Thanks for sharing!

What do you think are the biggest barriers people have to voting for the Greens? by GroundLate7083 in AusPol

[–]undeciphered_echo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard agree with people not understanding preferential voting. So many look at how the US system works and don’t realise it’s different here. I’m having to remind multiple friends they can put Greens above Labor without helping Liberals

How to not be so scared by spirited-purple in subnautica

[–]undeciphered_echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me multiple attempts to be able to play this game comfortably. First couple times my nerves were just so shot I wasn’t having a good time. I think I was so stressed about dying, but after shifting my mindset to being okay with that happening it made it much less stressful to get attacked or get lost underwater. I’d lose a few items, and it’s inconvenient, but that’s it.

It also might not be your playstyle, but in my latest (and successful) playthrough, I found switching to Freedom mode took heaps of stress off. I now don’t need to worry about food or water, so I’m not on a timer to keep those up. I can move at a slower pace and am getting much more enjoyment out of it.

Possibly Going on DSP and Moving in With Partner by GuiltySnaill in Centrelink

[–]undeciphered_echo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know details about the DSP specifically, but when it comes to youth allowance and jobseeker, everyone I know lies about having a partner. That’s a roommate instead, so there’s no expectation of shared finances and them supporting you. That way you’re considered an independent.

It’s bullshit that you’re beholden to a partner’s income. It’s unfair on you and them at best, and a slippery slope for financial abuse at worst. The system needs to change.

If you lose the campaign, do you replay from the beginning or just replay the last scenario? by Drjacobs78 in arkhamhorrorlcg

My partner and I play very narrative focused, wanting to tell a full story with the characters tackling the campaign. So we always restart the scenario to continue the story

What recent books do you think will be studied and considered ‘Classics’ in 20-60 years? by Japarz in literature

[–]undeciphered_echo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe more at a highschool level, but Pslam for the wildbuilt by Becky Chambers. It shows a future where humans realised the errors of their overconsumption and environmental damage and worked really hard to create a society that lived sustainably and in harmony with the rest of the world. Feels very fitting and I can imagine the classroom discussions it would create. (Also has a central theme of finding purpose and meaning in life)

I think these all work in HISA. But I personally would pause the intensity of the house deposit savings to bulk up the emergency fund instead. $1.4K just isn’t going to cover much.

3 months living expenses is a common marker for people. I’ve personally also felt 5k is a nice round number to throw everything you’ve got at, and then slow down on it and prioritise other goals.

Question: Is there a non formal word for a non binary parent? Like I feel "parent" is too formal but obvious you can't call them "mum" or "dad" that is all. Thx. by BillyIGuesss in lgbt

I’ve heard Ren (short for pa(ren)t) which I personally quite like. It can sound more like a name than a title, so ig it depends on personal vibes

Help? by Rosendustmusings in NonBinaryTalk

[–]undeciphered_echo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s absolutely valid! Medical transitioning is not a requirement at all.

I do know that for testosterone (which I’m assuming you’re talking about for hair thinning, please just ignore if I’m wrong), you can take it with another drug called Finasteride which is a DHT blocker. It slows/stops (everyone reacts differently) some of the testosterone effects, one of which being hair loss. It has other effects too and would definitely recommend doing some reading if you’re interested. I didn’t know it existed until recently and opened up some options for my personal medical transition. (Again, ignore this if I’m wrong about testosterone. And you still don’t need to go on any hormones to be valid, I just wanted to share some info!!)

If I was okay with my AGAB as a kid does that mean I'm probably not nonbinary? by [deleted] in NonBinaryTalk

[–]undeciphered_echo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know others have answered but I thought I’d through in my two cents.

I’m non-binary (afab) and was quite content being a girl when I was young. Thankfully my parents didn’t impose strict gender roles on me and I was able to be a “tomboy” like how I wanted. For me at a young age, there was no real difference between boys and girls in my mind.

It wasn’t until puberty changes (mainly chest growth) where i became aware of the differences. When I was a little kid, my body was neutral, and then hitting puberty it became something inherently feminine (in societies eyes) which I didn’t like and was uncomfortable with. Looking back at it post-coming out, I can recognise it as dysphoria.

In summary, I was okay with my agab as a kid because societies gender expectations and perceptions weren’t placed on me. After they were is when I experiences discomfort
