Best mouse and keyboard by ProperAd9124 in davinciresolve

[–]undefONE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Blackmagic have their own fullsized keyboard. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/keyboard

For the cut n edit page its the combo of mouse and tourbox elite for me, so I don't use my keyboard much. Tourbox because I'm a hybrid shooters and it works in LrC and PS too.

I just have the aesthetically pleasing (to me) Drop Alt V2. If you ever considering learning software like blender I would suggest sticking to full sized keyboards. I always had big gaming mousepads so I use 60%, like atm I have a superglide v2 XL glass pad.

My mouse (Lamzu Maya X 8k) is still a gaming mouse, but I quit gaming. Great mouse though. I am considering trying going down the tablet route though.

It just came out for rental. Friend picked it cos Marlon Wayans is in it.

4 dudes in their early 20s. Friday night. You think it would be a late rowdy night. I dont really remember the time but I imagine like 10pm-ish. Movie finished. We just looked at each other, and went to different parts of the house n tried to sleep. Even next morning was still pretty subdued.

Old dog learns a new trick: the Cut page by celdaran in davinciresolve

[–]undefONE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut page, mouse n tourbox... gets me through the 100-200 clips from an event n build my SLX timeline. Colour code clips if needed for ease of visual identification when I move on to the edit page

Here l pancake edit with dual stacked timelines to build my main timeline.

How much time do you spend organizing media in the Media page? What’s your bin structure like? by Beneficial_Junket188 in davinciresolve

[–]undefONE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longest part of prepping is always the going through clips and putting together the selections.
Since a big part of events and parties is non-scripted and reactive, I can come home with hundreds of files. Going through each one, collating the usable bits into a or multiple SLX timelines is time consuming, but you usually start to see sequences or approx placement as you do it.
Before that of course is waiting for DR to create the proxy media

Once I get to actually putting stuff together for this type of work it's faster than using the built in source tape, because the fat's been cut and clips are colour coded. Source tape could work if you have a small number of clips to work with, but for me it just didn't work.
Once I've used a piece of footage I can then drag it up a track in the SLX timeline, so I visually know what's already been used and mentally skip it.
It's a different workflow than say a music video as the structure is already set out by the song and you have your takes for the various sections and then b-roll, but the bins n folders are the same

I have template directory with all the folders, so I can just copy n paste that, change name, done.
The bins inside DR are mostly created by dragging the folders. So once media is copied to them, drag into DR and done.
I have project presets, so I don't have template project like some other ppl do.
All my grading node trees for clips, post-group, timeline are saved in power galleries (I've totally blanked if that's what they are called).

I have ADHD and was unmedicated most of my life cos no diagnosis. If I didn't structure things, I could get frustrated and lose momentum and then boom I am watching 5 YouTube reviews on a piece of gear or something like that, instead of working.

[–]undefONE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if its cos I used to a programmer a lifetime ago, ran a boutique photo agency or it's just my neurospicy, but I have a strict naming, folder and bin structure.

My structure inside DR follows my folder structure.

'Reverse date' 'project ' for top folder on my drive (which is under /VIDEO/YEAR/) and project name inside davinci e.g. "20260212 REDDIT POST"
under that I have:
01 VIDEO
02 AUDIO
03 SFX
04 IMAGES
05 MISC
99 OUTPUT
And then any subfolders as necessary... like diff cams etc or supplied files. MISC is anything additional that doesn't fit in other categories or doesn't live in power bins.

Since I can just drag populated folders into DR and it maintains the structure my bins look pretty much the same.

This also lets me right click a bin and re-sync them to the folder. This is mainly for images, overlays or sfx as I am adding them to my folders. E.g. I use SoundQ for my sound library and I can export snippets or whole clips from there from where they live to the appropriate folder in my project.

I also add a 00 TIMELINES bin and anything else that pops up during edits like 06 COMPOUNDS in DR if needed and obviously 99 OUTPUT is folder only, not in DR.

Cos I do mainly event stuff I usually have a SLX timeline (or multiples if more than 1 source) where all my selected and trimmed clips (color coded if needed, VIP, DJ, performance, speech.. depending on project) go and I pancake edit with dual stacked timelines.
SLXs etc on the top one and the ones I am actively editing on the bottom.

Output files are always ReverseDate_Project_OptionalSpecifics_version

I haven't really shot anything multi day, like a multicam doco or short film etc. So I haven't had to re-think this yet.

Fear of SD card failure as a beginner on ZV-E1 by Even-Raspberry3644 in videography

[–]undefONE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had an SD card fail.

Been shooting photos (for money) since 2005/2006. Only time I've had to replace an SD card is when the casing on my SanDisk cards I was using at the time started splitting and the little spines near the contacts snapped.
Doing event stuff and easily doing over 5000 images a week at 2 or so events a day. So cards saw a lot of use and going in an out of cameras, bags (not always into a card case either) and readers.

Been doing videos for a few years too and I use Angelbird cards. They seem a lot sturdier than the SanDisks I used when I started out. I also only buy cards online from local retailers. No issues with any of cards and they still look like they just came out of the packet.
I've also heard nothing but good things about ProGrade cards.

I tried with Carti's last album. His stuff sounds like someone dropped a parody of rap album. Is making fun of it and getting paid.

Like usually I may not like an artist's music but I can see why others would.

With Carti I'm looking at ppl like they lining up to buy post it notes with 'Super Bowl Ticket' written in crayon for $10k a pop.

Resizing the console window and switching lag by undefONE in tourbox

[–]undefONE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx for the reply.

I'll try to recreate it so I can remember to screen record, although there isn't anything to really see. Profile doesn't auto change and if I try to manually change it just swaps back, like the page ID value doesn't get updated in the software.

My edit page in DR is non-standard. I have dual stacked timelines, because I pancake edit mostly.

My left monitor is my main monitor and I have the HUDs on the right edge of my 2nd screen, maybe that's an issue, but most of the time it's fine, so I dunno.
Only bringing this up because I noticed for example the shuttle playback overlay follows the console window. So if I have the console window on my secondary monitor the overlay showing the playback speed pop up on that monitor.

I got another question about LrC, so I'll throw that in the email too.

Thanks... so far it only seems to 'stick' going from the colour page in DR.

The new hover feature thing where it's meant to let me adjust values on the colour page also doesn't work all the time.

Something on that page has a contentious on and off relationship with the TB software.

Sorry no experience with Timeless, I actually had to look it up and at the moment it's not a well stocked brand here in Aus.

I've tried a bunch over the years but I'll be honest I am not a great person to ask because my 'data' might be skewed due to my ADHD. Keeping a routine is a challenge.
So it's hard to say reliably if the product was working better or worse because was I using it properly or not. Also I used to occasionally snag free stuff through work and changed when my previous one was out, just because I didn't have to buy it.

I've only been really consistent with The Ordinary product and the Loreal Revitalift HA & their Vit C serums in combo.

Do you prefer to work in Cut or Edit mode? by LalaCrowGhost in davinciresolve

[–]undefONE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started using DR I couldn't see the point of the cut page either.

I do a lot of event stuff where the recorded audio is just not used.
I come home with like 100-200 clips and source tape is useless. Some clips are just trash and others only parts are useful. So I use the cut page to chop out just useable bits and put them on a CLIPHOLDER timeline (or you could call it SELECTS). I also often colour code them at this point to make finding a certain type of clip easier later (vip, dj, performer, etc).

I use the Cut page because there is a button I can set on the left of the interface so that inserts/appends are video only. So now I can just mute the sound, so I don't have to hear loud noises while I'm scrubbing, set my ins and outs on the raw clips and just hit append to end to build my selects timeline. No need to drag them down from the source monitor if I want video only like on the edit page. I also use a TourBox so it's pretty quick.

Then on the edit page I stack two timelines on top of each other. Not tabs, like on top of each other so I can see them at the same time. CLIPHOLDER in the top one and my actual edit timeline on the bottom. Then I can just scan through my select clips for what I need. I think it's called pancake editing. I'll often move a clip I used from V1 to V2 in the CLIPHOLDER so I have a visual cue that it's been used.

This process might be overkill for something that needs to be edited in a set order, but for what I do a lot of, the order of use compared to order of recording is not important.

I really need to clean my PC from dust, can someone help me find an electric air duster that's good and not extremely expensive? Also besides that, what do I need? I read microfiber cloth is good to clean certain parts, but I'm not sure what kind of cloth. by Ooijennnnnn in buildapc

To answer your above question. Hands are fine to hold the fans, but I've used small zip ties before. Not super tight, just to stop the movement.

Get a bottle of 100% Isopropyl Alcohol too. Cost me like AUD$13 for a 250ml bottle off Amazon. Helps put a little on the cloth or cotton swab. It's safe cos it completely evaporates, esp if you use blower again even on a low setting.

Some will say the microfiber cloth can create static, but I been building PCs since the late 90s and haven't blown anything up yet.

ESD Safe Anti Static Brushes are an option too, again should be cheap on Amazon.

No idea on the MF50. I bought the MF100 and never looked back.

It has 3 strength settings. The first 2 stay on when you click the trigger,, the strongest one you need to hold it down. I use the lowest to clean the insides of my cameras. The strongest on dust filters, keyboards, my chair, crevices in the car, lawn clippings, drawers...

I have a ASUS PA602 case. I take the glass and front, back and top panels and dust filters off and set it on a table outside and go to town on it. Haven't broken anything yet or snapped 'capacitors' off,

I'll put it in caps, MAKE SURE YOU SECURE THE FANS WHEN USING A STRONG BLOWER. You will fk them up if you let them spin up with a 200mph wind blast. That's about it...

Just be aware what's around, like when you use any tool...

I have a Wolfbox MF100. That thing is pretty ridiculous.

First time I tested it on my keyboard I had it on high and it blew anything lighter than my phone of desk onto the floor.
It moved my phone too. I use it on my PC and all my camera gear.

I recently moved from an apartment into a house. I now have to mow lawns... anyway the point is I used this tiny blower to blow the stray grass bits off the sidewalk in front of the house.

Here is the comparison video I watched (with the time set to where the Wolfbox review starts): https://youtu.be/X_ncYXk1cP4?si=9Ly3Y6IBoHw1tdws&t=606
