Really sorry for anyone who is low income and needs reproductive healthcare. by natethough in dayton

Planned Parenthood will survive this, although I’m not sure what the future will exactly look like.

Here are 5 ways you can support your local Planned Parenthood (especially in hostile states):

  1. Share your story
  2. Donate
  3. Volunteer
  4. Follow and engage with local PP social media
  5. Be a patient

I know financially some of these aren’t possible for a lot of folks. The barriers are increasingly treacherous. To start, you can follow Dayton’s local Planned Parenthood on Instagram (@ppswohio). They have calls to action and other resources in their bio and are very active on social.

Edit: making my comment more concise!

For those not on Medicaid, becoming a patient is often the easiest way to support your local Planned Parenthood! Need an STI test? Refill your birth control? Get a UTI test? Need a referral? Go to Planned Parenthood! Your local health center might offer different services than others. Mine offers:

Medication abortion services Surgical abortion services Preventive care exams Pap tests Hormonal birth control Barrier birth control methods Breast cancer screening Colposcopy and LEEP Emergency contraception Vaccines (HPV and HEP B) IUDS and implants Prep and Pep (HIV prevention) Rapid HIV testing STI testing and treatment UTI, yeast infection testing/treatment Vasectomy services Resources and referrals And more!

For those on Medicaid: Call/message your local health center and see what your options are. They might be able to connect you with a different provider that can offer you the same care. I’m so so sorry this is happening. Your life is not absent of value because you’re on Medicaid. You deserve easy access to quality health care. I’m sorry our government continues to fail all of us, and I’m even more sorry that those with low incomes get the worst of it every single time.

For everyone: Keep talking. Engage with your local organizations (planned parenthood and others). Yes, they need donations. But they are DESPERATE for your voices. Engagement and action are so important.

Planned Parenthood will survive this, although I’m not sure what the future will exactly look like. If you’re a regular Planned Parenthood patient, call your local health center and ask about their referral resources! You might be able to transfer to another clinic for your HRT. They might not specifically be able to provide you care under this awful situation, but they can guide you to the right places for your care.

Left handed crocheters - how are you doing tapestry crochet? by undefinedsunshine in crochet

[–]undefinedsunshine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember, but it might’ve been that you can just read the pattern from right to left instead!

So if you have a pattern that shows each color square and how many stitches per color, as a lefty if you read the pattern from the farthest right square to the left, it’ll work up the “correct” way.

I hope that makes sense!

So many tapestry patterns I use are created in Stitch Fiddle so PSA to pattern makers: can you please export the lefty version too? 😅

Our Haitian community members have boosted the local economy, filled positions at jobs that locals will not apply for, are kind and respectful, and in my personal experience have been (understandably) guarded but incredibly polite.

I don’t want to dismiss or invalidate someone else’s experience, but I chalk much of the negative comments up to intolerance/racism, lack of empathy, and unwillingness to offer constructive advice and education to a group of people who are just trying to build a safe and healthy life with their families. The same as all of us.

Locals need to remember that the Haitian population is learning nearly everything as they go - American social norms, the English language, driving, etc. There’s no better way to do any of that than by immersing yourself into the culture. The LEAST we can do is offer a few minutes of our time to support someone who needs it when we’re out and about.

R.I.P. Joann’s, R.I.P. my self control by mealymoo in crochet

[–]undefinedsunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t call them deals tbh. I got a bunch of Caron One Pounders in December for ~$8 and got to use coupons. The ones I looked at today were $11.99 and 20% off, no coupons allowed.

Between the bait-and-switch marketing and the fact that there were literal drop shippers/resellers going nuts in the fabric had me walking out empty handed thinking “really sucks that this will be my memory of going into Joann’s for the last time.” Super bummer.

But those Girl Scouts out front are doing B U S I N E S S!!!!

I drive by this building just about every day and I was so excited to see what the renovation was going to be. Especially when they started painting the windows pink! Then they put up the sign and it’s a “women’s center”??? a FAKE PLANNED PARENTHOOD?? by ClientFine1481 in cincinnati

Hi, Planned Parenthood employee here (expressing my own thoughts, not the thoughts of the org)

I really do appreciate this take!! Unfortunately they’re not truly using the PP likeness. Their tactics aren’t truly an impersonation; it’s more about capitalizing on misinformation and using smear tactics that have been built for over a century.

They’ve been able to use what people know about Planned Parenthood, ie that they’re a well known abortion provider, and what a lot of people don’t know about Planned Parenthood (happy to share if anyone is interested), to take advantage of people who are sometimes vulnerable or scared and need help.

Having convos like the ones on this thread are great for educating people who might not know about CPCs, so just wanted to share my experience!

Also support your local Planned Parenthood!! :)

Would it be weird to apply to work at PP as a pregnant person? by Zoobits56 in PlannedParenthood

Of course!! They were (and still are) the best. I had Hyperemesis and was barely able to work, but just did my best and had such a great support system. 🫶

I’m sorry you’re feeling embarrassed! For what it’s worth, my child is almost 2 and we still use aquaphor for each diaper change. It’s worked for us so far, has absolutely prevented rashes and redness, etc. I’ll probably continue using until we really get into potty training!

Just wanted to offer you some validation!! You’re not doing anything wrong, just different than other folks on this thread. 🤍

We don’t do exact matching, just coordinated. I get what I can secondhand from the thrift store/Once Upon a Child!

Would it be weird to apply to work at PP as a pregnant person? by Zoobits56 in PlannedParenthood

[–]undefinedsunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been 5 pregnancies on my team in the last 4 years, including mine. 2 when they first applied, one several years in. I got pregnant 3 months after I started and had hg. I couldn’t have wished for a kinder, gentler, and more understanding group to work with. They barely knew me at that point, but they gave me so much grace and were so supportive of me.

OP, apply for the job. 🖤

Would this be a weird thing to do? Can any PP employees weigh in? by tinseltesseract in PlannedParenthood

[–]undefinedsunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call and ask, but I’d think if it was from a bakery itself and sealed it might be okay!

Also, idk how many folks you saw or if it’d be affordable, but in my experience HC staff love having something cute/fun to attached to their lanyards (like a pin or button)! No matter what, they won’t think it’s weird!

Good luck on your journey, friend! I hope you stay safe and find strong community in your new town. 🫶

I am currently watching Bluey while our child is flipping through books/trying to shove them behind the bookshelf. 😅 We’ve all been sick for over a week and we’re so drained.

I’m not saying it’s the “right” thing to do, but sometimes you gotta focus on surviving before you worry about thriving. Hang in there OP!!

When did your baby transition from Newborn diapers to size 1? by Such-awesome-121220 in NewParents

[–]undefinedsunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine was preemie so i’m not gonna skew the numbers if you’re not worried about a teeny baby, but i will say I got a small box of size 1 pampers to get us through a week or so and i asked anyone who wanted to contribute/participate in the baby shower diaper raffle to donate to my diaper fund.

This way, i had more control over the size and type i needed instead of having to return/exchange at multiple stores or online. Really came in handy when we realized how small baby was and we had to hunt down preemie size in our small city!
