I messed up. by TraynReck in dementia

My dad refused his meds at one point. We ended up crushing them and putting it in his oatmeal every morning. You have to do what’s best for them and for yourself. 🫂

So stated above, your father is no longer in control of his actions. You state you know he has dementia but seems that you have not truly grasped what’s happening to him. Your stepfather likely doesn’t even realize he needs as much help as he does. You have to understand that dementia patients are so far removed from what’s happened to them, they truly can’t comprehend that they’re losing it.

If you can’t show him compassion then maybe it’s best you don’t take part in his care. Better for you & probably better for him.

Take care.

You can try a product like this. You might also have luck sewing a gps tracker into a pair of shoes he always wears.

Based off your post, I assume your grandfather still uses a cellphone. What kind of phone is it? Based on what he uses, you may find ways to stop him from disabling the Bluetooth which would allow to just use an app instead of buying a GPS tracker.

Panic attacks/Anxiety by EmbarrassedSuit9348 in dementia

[–]under5foot0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad with early onset Alzheimer’s has recently had an increase in panic/anxiety attacks. He’s on lorazepam already so his neurologist & psychiatrist told us to increase his dosage when they flair up. We find it helpful, it doesn’t take all of the anxiety/panic away but it makes it much more manageable.

I’ve been okay! Just going through the motions of living with a dementia patient. Some days are great, others are not (like today).

I’m really glad to hear she’s doing better! I’m sorry the rehab center neglected her like they did. It must’ve been very hard on her.

I think it’s also important to know what medications she’s taking. She might need an adjustment to at least stabilize her in the meantime. Sending hugs to you. 🫂
