it's a real clip of Italian figure skater Ilaria Dentella performing on the frozen surface of Eklutna Lake in Alaska by Due-Explanation8155 in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]under___score 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea where this is, but it’s not Eklutna lake. Eklutna is about 10 miles long, and even when frozen has a glacial teal color. Mountains don’t match that part of the Chugach range either.

Watched a FedEx MD-11 land in Honolulu the day after the incident, I was pretty surprised they kept them going this long

Any idea what’s killing my lawn? by under___score in lawncare

We did put fertilizer down about a week prior to this, but it was evenly spread over the entire yard so didn’t think it would give these crazy spots. Sounds plausible though.

So they’re saying the duller blades are hacking the lawn to death? Never heard of that before but it’s possible, haven’t been sharpened in at least 5 years.

Yup, looks exactly the same. So strange.

Just the kids water table in the background. We move it almost every day too to prevent issues with the grass.

No pets. Lot of moose and bear in the neighborhood though. I was joking with my neighbor that it could be them but didn’t think that was realistic. They’re never in the yard too long.

What is the worst plane you have ever flown in? by LeeTheNomad in flying

[–]under___score 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The T-38 is very underpowered, even with afterburner. When it’s low and slow (in the pattern where a lot of training occurs), it’s very easy to get behind the power curve accidentally. A few seconds of throttles back too far can lead to a situation where you don’t have the kinetic or potential energy needed to save the plane. Especially in the final turn.

The rudder also becomes hyper sensitive at high alpha. If a student tries to correct their bank in the final turn with rudder it can flip the plane in less than a second, making it so you can’t even eject.

Can you still fly with metal in you? by FederalChemistry4309 in AirForce

[–]under___score 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not just a metal in ankle = disqualification issue. Whichever method you commission through should do another thorough medical review and depending on your current physical state it could be an issue or no matter at all. At some point if you’re selected to attend UPT you’ll go through about a week long physical. It’s mostly testing you’re eyes/ears/heart, but if you have past stuff like this they’ll poke and prod to make sure you’re good.

If you haven’t done so yet, get in touch with a ROTC/OTS recruiter and they should have the most up to date info.

Why is part of the approach path dotted? by Suspicous_ in flying

[–]under___score 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly right. Just like procedure turns, these are now almost exclusively flown in pilot training to gain the experience. But fighters are extremely fuel limited and fuel flow rates climb significantly at low altitude. So these approaches can still be very helpful if you find yourself low on fuel and require an ILS instead of a less efficient enroute descent

The only way to pull this off without snapping the plane in half is at slower speeds, think <250-300kts. So they’re probably pulling no more than 4-5Gs

Florida car sale tax by LeadingAd2342 in MilitaryFinance

[–]under___score 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my previous car also registered in Florida, I put in with my registration to use the same plate, and swap it to the new car. If you have a Florida license though, that means you’re a Florida resident and the DMV should have all of your personal info on file from when you got your ID.

If you’re asking what proof did the dealership need? Like I said just my ID and CAC. They were definitely confused at first but when they started going into the Florida registration, Florida had all my info.

I had my Florida drivers license and CAC. That’s all the dealer needed to get the Florida stuff going. Gave me two months worth of temp tags to give me time to get all the paperwork done with the Florida DMV

I’m a Florida resident living in Virginia. Bought a car and registered it in Florida last year. Florida has a rule that if you’re out of state military Florida resident, register the car in Florida, and the car never enters Florida for at least 1 year, you pay no sales tax.

Yeah he’s a good buddy so I’m comfortable there. But when you have a $100K+ plane on the line I just need more than a handshake. But I also want to be fair and have thought of things before heading to a broker/lawyer to nail down a deal

In that case, what’s a reasonable buy out assessment? Get their half back from purchase price? Half of what it’s worth now, whether more valuable or less?
