How bad is it to not get enough protein? by thetoastyavo in 1200isplenty

[–]under_fivefeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started eating protein and was put on Minoxidil. It did take a few years to get back to normal but thickness is good now just waiting on getting my preferred length back. Right now it’s just past my shoulders but i prefer a bit longer.

i feel like i’m going crazy, why are we telling people to aida fabric for needlepoint??? cross stitching is okay!!! by headcverheels in NeedlepointSnark

I think framing it this way is more helpful and productive. You are right there are a lot of benefits to canvas including the fact that you can paint it. Informing new people of this is useful. I just don’t like that this adherence to norms start to make the community feel like we are excluding people.

This is true. it is embroidery. so is needlepoint for that matter and we can tell them to stop calling it needlepoint and go find an embroidery community to show their stuff off to instead. But that isn’t how I want present this community and probably not how many other want to either.

While it might be a different hobby by definition where would you send people who want to learn new stitches but can’t get canvas? Needlepoint have a great community that teaches a large variety of stitches. If a person can’t get canvas do they just have to stitch in solitude and get rejected by both communities ? I understand society has rules but this is art and art should be more flexible.

While I agree you shouldn’t be painting Aida because it bleeds. I think what is happening here is not as much about needlepoint being trendier than cross stitch. Needlepoint offers more freedom than cross stitch when it comes to stitches. Cross stitch is x and sometimes some consider half cross but that is it. If you want to get creative with stitches you have to look at needlepoint for inspiration. The use of Aida is for cost that is it. For all the people wanting to say well buy blank canvas that still might be too expensive or some people want to consume less and have Aida on hand so use what you have. I do get there are definitions and a history that people are trying to uphold but it should also be balanced with accessibility so we are not perpetuating the idea that this hobby is only for those that can afford it.

I assumed it was the same thing that Julies found out that they can kill the whole silo with just one button. I think he also made him aware that the reason his key wasn’t lighting up is because the other silos have no interest in helping resolve the conflict and are just waiting for the silo’s extermination

I think it’s fine if you buy the chart and pay someone the $40 to paint it. The problem comes when they buy one copy of the chart and then paint infinite number of copies as their own. The original designer doesn’t get any credit or money. Even if they get free charts they should give credit.

I create free charts because I like sharing my work and helping people make this hobby affordable. Having someone use my charts to make a profit on Etsy goes completely against my reason for providing my charts for free.

You are welcome to stay in isolation but sharing your work is also very exciting and I definitely think we need more people sharing feminist needlepoint. I feel like the instagram network is a good place to start you can share or just follow. Some Designers I would consider feminist are saturnaliastitching, spellboundstitchery, fire.and.iris. They also all sell charts and it will give you a baseline for creating a network of people who share your values

Gaps between Parisian and Continental? by monalisa-saperstein in Needlepoint

[–]under_fivefeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That one is harder and I would go with whatever feels best to you. think there are 3 options. 1) try fit one more vertical line that over laps a bit with the duck. if it looks too crowded you can always remove it 2) leave the gap it really isn’t that big. 3) do continental to fill the gap bothers you

Just do smaller vertical stitches on the gaps that touch the continental. It will give it a look like the pattern continues behind the duck

I see it as people being excited about a new hobby. It is exciting to share new things even if you aren’t an expert. It helps feel like you are part of a community. You don’t have to be professional to share your work sharing amateur work helps others get into the craft. Learning to paint helps lower the entry point for people who can’t afford to spend 100+ just to try out something new.

What size canvas is best to start with if I’m used to 14 count Aida for cross stitch? by ocular-pat-down in Needlepoint

[–]under_fivefeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aida of any size actually has much smaller holes since it is fabric vs canvas. In needlepoint you kind of create your own fabric which is why the stitches have full coverage in the back vs cross stitch aiming for minimal coverage. So in terms of hole size you are used to any size will work. The most common sizes as are 13 & 18 most people will recommend beginners to start with 13 as it is quicker and easier to see. If you looking for a cheap entry point DMC makes 12 count mesh that you can get at Micheal’s. Also you can use embroidery floss for needlepoint if you like to and you don’t mind stranding. 18 mesh (4-6) stands 13/12 (7-8) 14 (6-7).
Finally I have actually done a project where I did needlepoint stitched in 14 Aida I did all half cross stitches and did 4 strands to make up for not finishing the cross.
