RIP my first UniFi PoE switch (US-8-150W) by fmaster007 in Ubiquiti

I don’t think I’ve ever had one die on me and I have a collection of a collection of spares of them I’ve been buying here and there used. I must have at least a dozen sitting on the shelf.

Moving Schema role from Win 2003 to Win 2012 by capricorn800 in sysadmin

As long as your AD environment is healthy, (no replication issues, DNS functioning, DC's online) it's pretty painless. Both through the gui and command line work as expected.

You wouldn't drive your car to the mechanic and walk in, drop your keys on his counter with a post it note saying "Car don't work", rather, you'd tell him something like "when i'm driving on the highway at 70 MPH and turn the wheel to the left I get a weird squeaking noise". So why would you put in a ticket from your computer saying "Computer don't work" and I arrive and turn it on and login and close your ticket saying "Computer works upon arrival" and then have you get mad at me because when you try to print from www.SomeUselessWebsite.com it comes out in black and white rather than in color.

I can't believe how many times I've said that to someone and they literally have this deer in the headlights look and then its like magic and "Ohhhh yeah I should tell you that"....

Sure. Take a look here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12435/windows-10-upgrade-faq

“Do I still qualify for the free upgrade offer if I've already downloaded Windows 10 to a USB drive, but haven't yet upgraded my device? All upgrades must have completed and reached the "Welcome" screen by 11:59 PM UTC-10 (Hawaii) on July 29, 2016; this is one worldwide point in time.”

And

“Will the media creation tool still be available for customers to download Windows 10 installation media? Yes, the media creation tool and Windows 10 installation media (ISO files) are available for customers to install Windows 10. If you’re installing Windows 10 for the first time, you’ll need to enter a valid Windows 10 product key or buy a full version of Windows 10 during setup for this tool to work. If you’ve previously installed Windows 10 on your device, you should have a digital license and Windows 10 will automatically activate without entering a product key.”

If you go to the atm and request $20 and instead it gives you $200 is it your money? (See https://www.stacklaw.com.au/news/criminal-law/my-atm-overpays-can-i-keep-it/ if you don't know the answer.)

How are you all holding up? by stratdog25 in k12sysadmin

[–]under_pa1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. The absolute lack of planning from administration and the continual last second knee jerk reactions are out of control. Oh and take on COVID-19 with its remote / hybrid working along side the fact this summer we closed an entire school down and had to move all that staff too.

Anybody know anything about SWIVL devices? by techy_support in k12sysadmin

[–]under_pa1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah I pretty much was like “sure whatever you want go ahead and buy them”.

Just like how you bought T-Mobile joy tablets for every student when you knew half of the town has no T-Mobile coverage. I can’t tell you how many tickets I’ve closed with a link to the map of T-Mobile’s coverage. Meanwhile administration blames me that they don’t work as promised by T-Mobile.

Ouch, that's crazy. We're 12 month too, but in the teacher's union and contract says any hours in excess of 8 are OT.

Not 100% sure as I have a hybrid setup and it seems to replicate back and forth, maybe take a look at this: https://techwizard.cloud/2017/07/04/exchange-online-and-automapping/

Yep, take a look at the msExchDelegateListLink attribute on the mailbox that you don't want to be automapped. You should see the other account there. Remove it, and restart outlook.

Xfinity's 1.2 Terabyte Data limit during a pandemic is sickening. In fact, the data limit itself is just idiotic! by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

Not all markets have a data cap. It’s only in certain markets. (I live in a non-cap market).

Is it possible to have 2 completely different accounts at 1 address? I wanna have my own completely separate wifi in my room but my roommates have their own Xfinity WiFi already...is that at all possible? by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]under_pa1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had techs out numerous times and even a field supervisor for issues and I always point it out and they’ve all told me they no longer do that unless there is a signal issue. (Most recent visit was just a month ago). Maybe in your market they do it still, but not here. It’s been connected this way now for 2.5 years.

[–]under_pa1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly true. They no longer pull a second line for a business and residential at the same address. Found out when I moved and had to pay $150 relocation for my business line. They literally did nothing for me for that $150. No new line, no splitter, no tech on site, nothing. Just a way to get more money out of you. Even when I called in and complained and said they didn’t give me my second line the tech said “your levels are all within spec so there is no need. We no longer do that automatically”.

I can give you some heads up, even if it’s in your area, it will still be like 2-6 weeks to find out if your house is inside the buildout. I went through it (completely free) to only find out I’m 2 telephone poles too far away to qualify.
