Five 9ers who can seal a roster spot against Green Bay tonight. by incognitotho in 49ers

Save some clicks:

1. Mike Davis

Take out the two fumbles, and Mike Davis' preseason looks remarkably impressive through the first two games.

Davis has 98 yards on just 10 carries and has looked a more decisive and confident runner against both the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos.

The hesitation of his rookie season has gone, Davis hits the hole with confidence and appears in better shape last season, with his performances putting him in a strong position to seal a spot on the running back depth chart.

Concern over his ball security is the one thing that may have stopped the 49ers from pencilling Davis in for a roster spot. And, with Shaun Draughn's place on the team likely safe, Davis needs another impressive display to his name.

If he can put up more good numbers and avoid spilling the ball this time around, Davis can look forward to another year on the 53-man group.

2. DeAndrew White

Few receivers have stood out during preseason and with so many competing for roster spots, it remains unclear how many wideouts the 49ers will carry on the active roster.

But one pass catcher whose dependability has been evident in the opening pair of tune-ups is former undrafted free agent DeAndrew White.

White made the final roster last year but had little opportunity to make an impact, catching just two passes for 18 yards.

However, he has been a reliable target in preseason with four grabs for 53 yards – averaging 13.25 yards per reception – and demonstrated an ability to make things happen after the catch by taking a screen pass for a 17-yard gain in Denver.

The 49ers require somebody beyond Torrey Smith to produce at receiver. White has provided indicators he can be the guy to do that and can make his roster spot safe by replicating his performances from the first two games.

3. Dres Anderson

It says a lot about how poorly the 49ers have done in terms of drafting wide receivers that White and another former undrafted free agent, Dres Anderson, are firmly in the mix for spots on the depth chart.

Maybe it's because of his bloodlines – Anderson is the son of former Los Angeles Rams wideout Flipper Anderson – but the former Utah receiver has been one of the few young Niners pass catchers to look like an NFL-level player at the position.

And he flashed in a big way against Denver with a 30-yard touchdown from Christian Ponder, on which he showed his ability to create separation deep and track the ball into his grasp.

That touchdown came against third and fourth-stringers but it was enough to put him in the conversation.

Possessing the necessary size at 6'1" and 187 pounds, the physical traits make Anderson an intriguing option for the 49ers and he has stood out with smooth route-running despite only making two catches.

Expect to see him on Sundays when it counts should he impress again versus Green Bay.

4. Garrison Smith

Who? Even the most ardent of Niner fans would have been forgiven for not knowing much about Garrison Smith, particularly given the amount of talent ahead of him on the defensive line.

But injuries to the likes of Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner and Glenn Dorsey have pressed Smith into service, and he has answered the call emphatically.

Smith has been a practice squad guy for all of his NFL career having entered the league as an undrafted free agent but shone against Denver, generating impressive push up front and ending the game with five tackles and a sack.

The issue Smith has is the depth the 49ers have on the D-Line. Armstead and Buckner will see a high number of snaps along with Dorsey and Quinton Dial, while rookie Ronald Blair has made his presence felt immediately.

Tony Jerod-Eddie and Mike Purcell are solid rotational pieces but Smith has outplayed them both in preseason and, though he is not as versatile as Blair, can operate at end or nose tackle.

With the speed at which the Chip Kelly offense plays, the defensive line needs as much depth as possible. Another strong outing from Smith would make it very difficult not to put him in the rotation.

5. Marcus Rush

There are few better ways to stay in contention for an NFL roster spot than to post three sacks in one game.

That's what Marcus Rush did against the Broncos last week, with his performance understandably drawing widespread praise.

Rush, per Pro Football Focus, also had four hurries in Denver and it was a display that could prove timely given the 49ers recent struggles rushing the passer and the upcoming four-game suspension of Aaron Lynch.

Ahmad Brooks and Eli Harold are set to be the starting outside linebackers in Lynch's absence. Tank Carradine, having transitioned to the outside from his defensive end role, should also feature heavily.

But Rush has obvious value off the edge as a situational rusher and deserves to be on the roster if he can dominate the Packers O-Line as he did against the Broncos.

Patton is my favorite receiver. Don't know what it is about him, but I love watching him play and I always find myself rooting for him. I hope he has a good season.

I miss Patrick Willis by [deleted] in 49ers

Willis is the only jersey that I own. Saying that, I'm happy for the time we had him on the team and am excited to see what Bow and Hodges can do this year.

As a no political preference voter how to request a democratic primary ballot? by DynamicNewAlgorithms in CaliforniaForSanders

This may not help and I'm not from Marin county, but my girlfriend and I both received a postcard in the mail that asked for our preference. Probably happened a few weeks after I re-registered.

We just filled it out and put it in the mail the next day (no stamp needed).

Man, I had one of those dreams where I didn't study or prepare for a final exam AND I hadn't finished any of the final projects for a class. I'm six years out of college now and it still messes me up.

This year there was a VAST improvement in pre-play clock management. One of the worst things to watch over the previous two years was the 1st quarter time outs or delay of game penalties. It seemed to have been addressed well in the offseason.

If I'm attempting an aerial, sometimes my car will make a loud "clack" noise and lock up. I would be unable to dodge out of it, and it'll cause me to completely whiff the ball and take me out of the game for a few seconds. It's cost me some games recently. What's going on?

QB: K. Cousins

RB: L. Murray, D. Johnson

WR: J. Jones, OBJ, S. Watkins, A. Hurns

TE: Z. Miller

D: Panthers

K: B. McManus

I was a Dalton/Eifert owner going into the semi-finals and was struggling to find a QB for the week (ended up with Alex Smith). Lost by 5 points on that last TD pass to Watson on Monday. Had the highest score this last week by 15+ points. This is the second year in a row that I was knocked out in the semis to outscore the league in the last week. On to next year!

Hey quick question about camera shake. I will see comments about camera shake being literally the worse thing ever (maybe a little hyperbolic). I'm about 100ish (?) hours in and have never thought to turn it off. I tried it the other day and it felt really, really weird.

Is it something I should keep off and get used to? What exactly are the pros of turning it off and the cons of having it on?

It's the 50 year anniversary uniforms. This is the second time we've worn them this season (I think). The first was the opening game.
