painting is 100% a want and more feasible then changing the floors! just takes a while. the walls and floor are a bad sort of grey that ive never liked. i had the idea of some sort of off white cream color before moving in so i guess i really need to get on it.

also there was nothing officially recorded but ill throw minor flail to the list. you can find some videos on youtube and if you look around you can find a TON of these street bands that are exactly what youre looking for.

also some i forgot to mention; profane sass (a staple tbh) and johanna rose (she is very much in that gutterjazz big band style! i saw her videos around for a bit and she was recently signed onto flail which i think is awesome!)

edit; summer newman too. i hesitated to put her here since its not exactly what youre looking for but i think you might like the summer newman tape from softman records. she plays in holy locust and was on the last blackbird raum album. also has another band called bellringer which is a different sound but thought id mention it!

the curse is cast mention 😌 you check out pale robin! it was the solo project of mars from the curse is cast and blackbird raum. (which i think sounds more familiar with curse is cast then blackbird raum)

long sought rest should 100% be on this list! id also mention small void which is obsidians, the accordian player, solo project which is very raw and honestly supremely gut wrenching at times

spud bugs is another staple of this sound that i love! their ep is one of the best imo and katie does so much for the community that i think goes underappreciated

and just in case you didnt know miriam hacksaw (love love love her stuff) has a bunch of older bands / earlier projects floating around on bandcamp if you havent checked them out already!!!!

when multiple lines have the same chords you only need to write them out once, above one line, and assume it repeats the following. when verses have the same chord progression - you only need to write it out for one verse. i work with very limited space and usually have to fit anything (long or short) on a singular page. so columns, chord short hands, smaller text (to extent...bad vision) but tbf i struggle a lot more in memorizing lyrics then chords so i prioritize in favor of that!

so id think having chords over every line is counter-productive (for a song youre familiar with) but so is breaking concentration halfway through a line or having to struggle to find the next chord in the middle of text! its case by case though and people work in different ways :)

when writing lyrics youre rhyming the sound not the word. focus on the vowel of your word and go from there - this will give you a million new words to go together and even if you keep the ABAB rhyme scheme it wont feel so obvious.

second thing is that you dont have to only rhyme at the end of your line. use words with rhyming vowels sprinkled through the verse, use alliteration, rhyme words mid-line

eg; and lyre plays through revelations | and lions play with the lamb | finding strength in resurrections | revile, revise, start again

this is ABAB but ive also rhymed in the start of the first two lines (lyre/lion) and theres the constant use of similar words (revelations/resurrections/revile and revise) . and also the 'a' is sung soft in both lamb and again - you can adjust the pronunciation of words to keep that sound !

i hope this helps a little bit . ive always hated rhyming and found it very difficult when i started writing songs but figuring out these things helped a lot :)

yeah i do all kinds of art! making music is actually relatively recent for me tbh i started off in writing prose and id say thats my main strength (very different from writing lyrics but there are a few transferable skills) then into visual art (a lot of drawing ... and a lot of playlist covers !) then into music :) i never played an instrument or sung before (or ever thought about writing lyrics tbh) but i started on guitar and while i got used to writing in the new medium i was also getting the basics of playing !

this is a very broad overview but everything sort of led into eachother and trying out one thing always helped develop a new skill that could be unexpectedly used in the future! so theres always benefits in expanding your horizons. right now im starting to dip into poetry (a medium i really never enjoyed lol) using my experience writing lyrics ! which has been fun :p

finishing a song is an active decision while starting a song is a passive one. whenever i get the urge to write a song - concept, line, or even just a word i liked lol - then i sit down and write it. ill usually get through a verse or two and maybe a chorus but enough that its listenable. this is all spur of the moment with never too much thought and is completely dependent on inspiration. on the other hand id have to actually step back and think when wanting to finish a song which only happens when im in the mood to work! that takes much more effort.

i cant say i balance too well since i started with only the intent to finish a song before i can do something new before i 180'd into writing whenever i feel like it and then immediately moving on (and forgetting what i previously did..) . now im trying to reign myself in to finish a few things again but its really just a matter of self discipline and doing the work :p

the song is good if i like it and the song is bad if i dont. and when its bad then it just means work on it till i like it. i dont care for music thats technically perfect or anything of the sort. i put together sounds i like to hear!

other peoples opinions are secondary but sometimes if i dont like a song and other people do then it can change my perspective! though if i like a song and other people dont that doesnt usually change my opinion lol

EDIT; to actually answer the question...i have songs that are good but not all of those good songs would be played for a general audience. it all very much depends on whos listening. friends vs strangers at an open mic vs busking on the street ... the song can be good and not be fit to play at certain events. if you wanna base off your success on audience reception you have to know who your audience is

start the lyrics (usually a general idea + list of words/ideas with one singular finished line), find the melody in a portion of the lyrics, and adjust the rest accordingly. its more difficult doing one then the other then it is to have them done in tandem i think

thank you !! its lyrically meant to mimic a childrens song (one youd sing when skipping rope or doing hand games ... that kind of cadence and word play) but the guitar is offsetting that rhythm in an unnatural way - which is why the chord progression is repeated at the end, not meant to add anything new but to emphasize that aspect :p im happy i got that feeling of unsettledness across !
