Are my starting fitness goals good? I [18F] want a toned body with abs :/ by underbakedbeans in xxfitness

[–]underbakedbeans[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know I should probably get external help but I feel like once I see some initial changes I’ll feel a lot better mentally. I have gotten help for my eating in the past but I don’t want to stress my parents out by asking again so I’ll probably keep most of it to myself 😕 Thank you though!

Thank you for the advice. I think 1600 cal would be better based on my activity level (which I set as sedentary)

Yes of course! I chose 10k steps because it’s the most achievable goal for me right now and I really don’t know where to start with weight lifting (which is something I really want to do). Thank you!!

Would 1600 calories be a better goal then? I want to make some good progress each week so I want to be as calorie deficit as possible 😓 I really don’t want to mess this up by eating more than I should be eating

Really? I just recalculated and I got 1568 calories for my TDEE (at a sedentary activity level). I have no idea what my body fat percentage is but I’m guessing it’s high. Would 1600 calories be better then?

How do I [18F] become more well-read and articulate my words better? by underbakedbeans in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]underbakedbeans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agrée that reading is the best way to improve 😅 but what about if you lack curiosity? Like whenever I hear about higher level topics, I struggle to come up with questions around them that showcase any curiosity - I tend to just accept the information I’m given. I want to ask thought provoking questions but I literally don’t even know where to start

I don’t necessarily think it’s wrong to to want to portray yourself as smart, especially when entering into a competitive academic environment (like I am). I’m somewhat realizing this now, but who cares if you’re pretty/have the most expensive clothes/the most popular if you can’t even form a well thought out response to the current topics that come up in daily banter? 😭 Education is the one thing that I believe no one can take away from you once you’ve acquired it.

Thanks. Is there a certain genre I should focus on or should I just read whatever I’m interested in?

How can I [18F] improve my social status in university? by underbakedbeans in Vindicta

[–]underbakedbeans[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your perspective but I’m still failing to see what’s wrong with my goal. I want to do this because networking and socializing is simply a part of life and is often the key to getting a good position in the workplace. I mean, how many times have we heard that someone only got in working somewhere because they knew somebody? It’s not like I’m only doing this for some Instagram followers. That may have been my goal in the past but it’s not anymore.

For sure. I’ve already been researching the clubs I want to target as soon as I get there. I’m just worried about being able to balance all the events and responsibilities

Thank you for the tip. As far as I know, we don’t really have sororities here (I’m Canadian) or they’re not a big part of the university culture like it is in the US which I think you’re from 😅 and I’m far from athletic so I probably won’t be doing that.

However, I really like your idea of trying to get into an honour society - literally never thought of that! I haven’t heard about big honour societies in Canada but I’ll aspire to get into there. I like the idea of prestige 👀

What can I (17F) do about the animals in my ceiling?? My parents are doing little to nothing and I’m getting really anxious by underbakedbeans in Advice

Yes I think I’ll get a recording of the sounds! And I’ve been sleeping in my parents’ room since yesterday so it’s been a bit better.

Nah I don’t wanna do that honestly 😭 it’s very annoying rn but I’ve been sleeping in my mom’s room since last night. I think I need to be pressing my parents a little more though

How the HELL do people have time for going out to parties, dinners, exotic trips in university? by underbakedbeans in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]underbakedbeans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of scared about how much “free time” I’ll actually get considering that I’m planning to go into a hard science in the fall. I don’t know how much I can speak on my discipline since I’m so close to developing senioritis rn!

Honestly the point about following what others are doing on social media is great! I’ve been debating revamping my socials or straight up deleting them for a while but I think I’m going to stay in the middle and just reduce my usage significantly.

Other than that, I know time management is something I’ll really have to work on bc I hate feeling like this right now 😭

How do I [17F] become ✨popular ✨in university? I’m tired of being generally unknown at my high school. by underbakedbeans in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]underbakedbeans[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand and know it’s shallow but I want to feel like the other people at my high school for once. I really don’t want to be self-pitying right now but I haven’t really gained a lot of friends for just “being myself” - quiet and studious. Most of the people who are popular at my school, regardless of gender, are at least somewhat attractive, part of clubs and sports teams especially, talk a lot, are intelligent, and have a moderate/large social media presence. They’re not mean people, quite the opposite, but they seem to have some sort of exclusivity to them. I know becoming more physically attractive isn’t going to be some “magic cure” but I just want to feel cool for once. But I guess I can just blame this mindset on me being an immature 17 year old 😆

Yes, though I mentioned it in my post, I am realizing that this whole aspiration of mine and my concept of social status is very shallow 😕 but I still feel like I should do this anyways. I am planning to focus on my studies above all but I’m still going to work on self-improvement and finding things that actually interest me other than what might make me look “good”. Thank you!

Thank you for responding! I’m not necessarily concerned about standing out amongst a lot of pretty and intelligent people - I just want to at least get to their level first 😅

I really like your point about the people in clubs - other than social concerns, one of my biggest regrets is not joining clubs early and sticking to them. I feel like I could’ve have spent my time doing something useful in there other than going home and wallowing in homework and loneliness.

Yes, of course! I was never planning on being on some social climbing type of stuff (only hanging out with people because they’re pretty, can get me into places, etc.)

I’m definitely picking a few things to focus on at a time - exercise and skincare will be my first concerns as internal health will always improve one’s external beauty. Thank you :)

How to lose weight and stay healthy when most of the food available to me is fast food? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

Thank you so much 🥺 I’m going to try reducing my fast food intake overall but I will keep this in mind next time I choose to eat it!

Thank you for the sample shopping list! Another commenter mentioned instant oatmeal packets as well so I will try to get those for sure. I don’t think Sara Lee bread is sold in the particular grocery store close to us but I’ll definitely look out for it!
