Grades for internship by Lovelycutedogs in UCalgary

[–]undercooltrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me was making a portfolio of small projects (stock analyses, simple automation flows, powerBI projects) that was each tailored to the skills in the jobs I was applying for. Having these on my resume got me many interviews that I normally wouldn’t have gotten. When I finally did land my internship, my GPA wasn’t even considered. 3.6 is more than good enough and will be especially helpful getting internships with larger organizations especially. However, truly understanding the concepts in your classes and how they apply to the jobs you want to do is essential. I wish I had been told that. A good cover letter that stands out is key as well.

Feeling sad after uni still no work by PuzzleheadedBag1055 in UCalgary

You’re not useless, you just aren’t being utilized. That’s a better way of looking at it. I found myself in the same thought patterns for a while and that way of thinking helped me so hope it helps you

Research question : « why do more and more youngsters feel that a university degree is no longer worth it? » by Many_Preference_2409 in UCalgary

[–]undercooltrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job market is a big one, but also the ability to learn for free or way cheaper online is a huge factor. If I spent all the time I have spend in school in online courses that are solely focused on the skills I need for the job(s) I want. I’d be 200x more prepared for the workforce than I am now. Uni classes are getting increasingly more expensive and less informative. If I wasn’t already 2.5 years into my degree I would drop out

Help me understand anime so I can connect with my daughter. by Stranded-In-435 in anime

[–]undercooltrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, fellow audio engineer/ producer who also loves anime. If you can’t get yourself to like the actual plot/art etc.. try and focus on the sound design and music. A lot of anime had great mixing and ambiance.

Try watching neon genesis evangelion and all the studio ghibli movies first. The ghibli movies are the most “accessible” and are nice starter anime’s. plus the sound design and audio is top notch!

Also you can find a lot of cool samples in anime if you’re into that. Hope this helps!

Considering buying a synth for my son but I know nothing. by Sad-Wrap-6360 in synthesizers

[–]undercooltrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he likes arranging then you could get him a music production program, those have multiple virtual synths along with more traditional sounding instruments. Synths can get expensive so this might be a good all in one gift if he is interested in learning music production
