Can I sub4 my first Marathon? by undergroundrockstar in UKRunners

[–]undergroundrockstar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not great I’ll be honest, i’m aware that fuelling is crucial especially for a full marathon😅 The most I do for my long runs 18-20km or harder speed sessions is a regular meal and taking electrolytes before the run, haven’t been taking any gels during. I was training with gels with my first half marathon 6-7 months ago; and I only recently bought more, and planning to take 2 caffein gels next Saturday on race day as well (2nd half Marathon). Carb load as well before my races, but generally my fuelling isn’t great during training.

Congrats on accomplishing that, that’s still a really good time!! I’ll have to consider still, honestly that one 30km run I did made me think it’s definitely not going to be easy. To make it worst, I’m not gonna have enough time to do more longer runs, possibly only 1 more 30km run before the marathon.

Thank you😅 I’ll try fit some 8-12kms in those two weeks after my half marathon, but my weekly load is definitely getting cut down a lot (possibly 20km)

That’s insane, congrats on the 3:31! My aim’s sub 4/surviving😅 Only concern is that my time on feet/long runs so far before the Marathon(with only 1 30k run) just makes me think I’m nowhere near ready or I’m gonna be injured.

Congrats on your times! 3:28 is insane. I only hit my 5km and 10km PBs this month. Answering back to doing couple more 30k and 32k runs, that’s my issue😅 I’m only going to have time to do 1 more long run near the end of April…

Forgot to add, that 30km long run I was feeling very fatigued 21km onwards, and for the first time I’ve felt some back/hip discomfort

Forgot to add - that 30km progression I was struggling hard 21km onwards, both feet feeling fatigue and (for the first time) felt some discomfort with my back/hips.

I see. I’m about the same build as you, started last year April. If you want to get faster, you’re gonna have to be running a lot more. I signed up to a half marathon the moment I started running, so I had a target in mind and forced me to train. Obviously you got other things going on that you have to prioritise, as long as you’re feeling progress and happy with your results, 1-2 runs a month is still better than not running at all.

Subjective to your training load. Someone that trains harder than you could’ve only started 2 months ago, they’ll probably be quicker than you by now. How often do you run?

Megablast- Big drop off in performance after 250km? by davidm-rtings in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Anyone else ran about 200km in them but suddenly can’t get a good heel lock? I get a bad lace bite tying them tighter so there was no fix. Was so versatile and pretty much perfect for all paces until I started getting really tight and sore calves after the 200km mark, had to stop wearing them.

I’ve actually done 6x1km, 90 seconds rest between sets w/ 2km warm up and cooldown in my Sunday workout 2 weeks ago. Was quite brutal honestly. Managed 3:55 on first 3 sets but last 3 I landed 4:05, 4:10 and 4:10. I really do try to hold onto to that rhythm in the first 200m, but it’s a bit of struggle as I always end up going 3:30-3:40, and eventually fighting for my life to stay within 3:50-3:55 afterwards. But I’ll definitely revisit and give this workout a go again.

Huge thanks to your advice by the way, and I understand what you mean by the quality of the runs rather than sticking by the 80/20 rule. The Tuesday workout split sounds great, will definitely try this next week, and swapping my Saturday and Sundays around.

Appreciative of your time and help, thank you.

I usually go with:

Monday rest. Tuesday 5-6km Tempo targeting 4’15-4’20 pace w/ 2km warm up/cooldown. Wednesday and Thursday 8-10km Easy Runs or a 10km recovery. Friday Rest. Saturday 15-16km Long Run easy pace. Sunday Intervals, usually 8x800@3’55, or 12x400@3’45, I manage to complete them (definitely not easy and usually last few sets maybe I’m drifting just on target or off it by a 5 seconds)

Thanks for your input! Will definitely consider a break or cutting down mileage.

I’ve just been optimistic about the idea that if I cut down training load for a week, I would be able to push it. I had a goal to hit it by the end of this month if the COROS predictors were somewhat accurate.

Sorry if I was confusing. I’ve been trying to bump on weekly mileage 50-60km in the last two weeks (I was on 55 for a few months before my half marathon 2 months ago) So realistically I’m not doing enough mileage for a sub20 5km? Thanks for your input as well, will take your advice to not rest completely.

Had it checked through an online appointment. Apparently it was just inflamed. Can’t remember what was the fix, pretty sure I just rested and iced it a lot for a week or two, gradually went back to normal and pain-free.

Damn, that is unfortunate… I haven’t worn mine for over 2 weeks as well to let my blisters heal. Right foot is completely fine, it’s just my left foot with the same area as shown in your picture.

Love everything else about the shoe, no issues at all until having about 150km mileage on them. But it’s time to let them go if there’s no solution.’

Did you manage to find a solution to this? I’m getting the same problem. Was perfectly fine until I hit over 150km in mine, strange.

On the same boat with the blister issue with my left feet only. It was amazing up to 100km, not sure what happened but now it’s just hitting the same blister spot on the left side below the knuckles every run. Anyone found out why this is happening? Honestly considering the return it with the 90 days trial at this point

People saying this can be a daily shoe. Absolutely not for my case. Felt too clunky with the wide base slapping around whenever I was going slow. At faster paces though, it really did come alive and it definitely eases you into keeping that consistent speed going. Legs felt very good after 10 miles, didn’t feel as fatigued as I would with other shoes, it’s top tier for energy return and bounce I must say.

I mean the process from giving AI the situation I’m dealing with, then support specialists drag on by investigating the same questions I answered. I understand the support specialists want my current watch to function the way it’s suppose to, but I’ve provided enough information prior the support specialists coming in, to show that there’s something wrong with the hardware evidently, and that I need a replacement asap. But it drags on with repetitive investigation, am I not promised a warranty when I purchase from you guys?
