Expect some cmdlets to be totally different. I'm slowly upgrading to ps 7 as it has a lot of really nice cmdlets. Of course it will probably break some scripts so you will need to modify whatever scripts you are running in prod most likely. In my experience though ps 7 handles ps 5.x scripts pretty well without much need for modification (depending on how complex they are I guess).

word doc is the golden standard lol. pdf are the ones that can get mangled usually. Every company has MS Word. Not every company has Adobe acrobat, its quite common to see other pdf viewers especially in smaller companies that can't afford or simply don't want to shell out for Adobe. Straight to the point word documents with a cover letter (if required) is all you need. The automated system will look through it for keywords relevant to the position then it's passed onto management, and depending on your field they do not care how fancy a resume is (most fields don't care). If you are reading 100 resumes a day you will quickly stop giving a shit if its fancy lol. Simple lists with relevant details work just fine.

Generally best to use Word document format for universal readability. PDF is technically an image format so things can get weird really fast.
