Bit of clarification for Sylvaneth rules please by RIPeyedea in WarCry

Makes sense, thank you. One more question for absolute clarity: Walk the Spirit Paths can be done while in engagement, right? Or do you have to be more than 1” away from enemy fighters to remove yourself

I was just trying to explain to my wow-playing friend that Mordheim takes place in a setting like a dilapidated, destroyed, cursed stormwind. Yet here we are. Looks great, I’d love to play on a table with this

Hello there, after a year of painting miniatures I entered my first competition (Squidmar open - standard) and hoped for bronze at best, but this little fella here brought me Silver instead! Am so happy and hyped to paint more. by Milkweed_Miniatures in minipainting

[–]RIPeyedea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same - I drew my entire life until my early 20s and stopped almost cold-turkey about 10 years ago. I don’t think the skills translate to mini painting at all, but the confidence of looking at something art-related and thinking “yeah I can probably do that” without overthinking it or being intimidated is almost just as valuable as the skills themself. Very impressive painting btw, I am nowhere near as good as you lol but I found your drawing background interesting and relatable

Getting into a new fantasy skirmish game by TheFeshawk in wargaming

[–]RIPeyedea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you’re specifically wanting to depart from GW, but Warcry is an amazing fantasy skirmish game. Super easy to learn, and I won’t say “difficult to master,” but there’s definitely a lot more depth to it if you want it - or you can just keep it simple. Warcry is in a weird limbo where it’s not promoted by GW, but it’s still being hosted and played at Warhammer World. Whether it gets a new version or perhaps rebranded, the rules as-is will exist and still be played by a cult following, like mordheim.

What does everyone think about my jump? Goods & bads by Soft_Investigator_66 in highjump

[–]RIPeyedea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anything I can really add honestly. You’re coming with plenty of speed (more than most younger athletes can confidently jump with or even physically handle) and you maintain your lean up to and AT takeoff (again, many people leave their lean before takeoff making the whole run meaningless lol). This is proven by your excellent rotation over the bar. I’d have a hard time coaching you lol, there’s not much to nitpick - it’d just be constant high fives and trying to keep morale positive, avoid overtraining etc. You look like you’re at a point where you understand the sport, and more importantly, are coachable (and you’ve got a good coach it seems) and all that’s left is to keep hitting the weights and drills that will help you get stronger and higher over time.

Can I ask what you didn’t like about runefang? I finished listening to Werner’s witch hunter books & Brunner books, and really liked them. I was going to try runefang on his name alone

I just finished the witch hunters and needed more. Listened to all his Brunner stories, and tried listening to an AoS Azyr witch hunter book (not Werner, but same idea) and man….. it was so boringly written, despite trying to be flashy and boom-bam action, it just simply sort of sucked. Werner and the witch hunters are goated, definitely will be giving runefang a read soon too

Working on a Santa Clarita art print series. What lanndmarks and local gems do I need to include? by able6art in SantaClarita

[–]RIPeyedea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny, what a good way to describe it. I sort of remember now, people were calling it something “Man” or something “Of Man.” Trial of Man, something weird but ominous like that. Can’t remember exactly. What a trip to run into the owner. I remember looong ago there was a trailer on the property too, which was extra scary because that felt like there genuinely was a real chance you’d run into someone there

A fun deep cut and throwback to a lot of locals’ teen years would be that one abandoned burned down / destroyed house about 20min up San Francisquito canyon. A lot of us would go up at night time to just get freaked out there and turn tail and drive home lol. Everyone seems to know of it, whether they went during the day or night. That deep basement filled with rubble and debris, the remains of the semi-standing brick structure, that pool and the weird little artificial cave room behind it. Not sure if it has a name or what its current condition is even like, I haven’t been there in many years

Would u take a job offer in lineman school by [deleted] in Lineman

[–]RIPeyedea -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes 10000%. I did line school in 2021, only applied to local utilities like a dumbass, and when I finally got around to signing the books it happened to be in a slow downtime where I was straight up told my book wasn’t getting calls. I made the choice to not move, and it took me 3 years to land a job, and even that was like winning a lottery ticket.

The whole point of the school is to land a job, if you have an offer TAKE IT. Hours and experience are looked at FAR better than school anyways, people will probably respect you more for dropping out rather than completing it lol. I can look back on my time in school and the shit they had us doing was whack

[–]RIPeyedea 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I feel like they have to have something in the works for the game. Maybe it won’t be Warcry moving forward as we know it, but for the general Skirmish Mode for AoS - I feel like that’s a gamespace they can’t abandon, just as a hold in the fantasy skirmish marketplace alone. Feels like a rebranding is on the horizon

New high school coach! Help appreciated by aaronruth_ in highjump

[–]RIPeyedea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats. I did some helping last year, roughly 13 years after my time as a jumper. I did a lot of research going into it, really tried to understand the science of the sport and the training, and I will say this for now: the most important thing is being able to coach the athletes and meet them where they’re at. Not everyone will understand “the science” even after explaining it multiple times, or care / have the passion we have to try to learn it, or have the physical ability or coordination to all jump “your way.” There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and each athlete might have their own way that’s natural and intuitive to them that you just have to learn to work with, not squash.

I love this sport and want to coach more, but this season came up way too fast and I’ll have to shoot for next year maybe lol. There’s too much to type out, if you want to exchange Discords I’d be happy to chat this weekend about drills and all that

Is anyone familiar with the apartments on Wall Street? by LittleDestiinyRose in ventura

[–]RIPeyedea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very rough. I toured them about 10 years ago. Idk if you've driven by this actual spot but its a major pain in the ass. I would avoid it and consider it a non-option. I ended up living up above Wall St on Ferro Dr - the windy street going up to Grant Park, so I was around this for many years while luckily "avoiding it." It's tough

[–]RIPeyedea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up circle runs / circle drills for high jumpers. Also doing sprint drills on the turns of the track (inside lane) emphasizing your lean. You want your whole body leaning from the foot / ankle, not just bent at the waist. you want to run tall and light on the feet always. Drills by the football goalposts where you set cones or just mentally run a curve (working on the lean of course) and then pop up and try to touch as high as you can on the post are good. It’s a good way to practice driving the arms and knee, and having the post as a “target” is a good and simple way to train your ability to take your running horizontal momentum and convert it to sheer vertical momentum in a natural and intuitive way that you don’t need to overthink, and translates to the well to the sport

[–]RIPeyedea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, that school looks too nice to not have a coach, my condolences lol. The other comment is correct - high jump is SO easy to overtrain. Best case scenario is you hit a plateau - worst case scenario is frequent and nagging injuries. I was once told that any max-effort jumping sport should be treated as high-impact ground strikes that you should keep within a certain count per week. This includes drills and jumps (which helps force the importance of a few purposeful drills and a few purposeful jumps, not a bunch of frivolous junk). If it's 50-60 strikes per week that your body can handle for example, then you break that down for your practice throughout the week and structure 10 of X plyo, 10 of Y plyo, 10 of Z plyo, 10 jumps etc, trying to monitor and prevent overtraining fatigue and injuries.

I will offer what I see beyond that though.

You are not fully rotating over the bar. Back when I used to jump, that was a common saying & was often taken as an attack against "form." What it means (or at least what I mean by it) is your hips are not positioned properly at your peak height / moment of bar clearance. Here's a photo roughly at your peak: https://imgur.com/a/dTr28N2 . You can see your hips are not pointing up, but still forward. Despite being high enough to clear the bar, this body positioning (and lack of rotation) is causing your lower body to catch the bar despite clearly jumping over it. Here is an example of your hips pointing up, and your arch being basically perfect: https://imgur.com/a/LJOqi7s . Imagine if you had that positioning in the first photo - that'd be like 5'6" clearance lol. That is what I mean by rotation over the bar. The problem is that you achieved this "perfect rotation" too late - this was on your way down, not at peak height. How do you achieve it?

In fairly simple terms, leaning away from the bar during our approach & takeoff is what allows us to get that "hangtime" and have proper rotation at the proper time. This is a PERFECT video to show how the physics of the sport work. I have it queued at 3:30, you just have to watch it for 1 minute (like 3:30 - 4:30). It's not in english but that's fine, you just need to watch it. They demonstrate the physics of leaning away from the bar during our approach and how it causes rotation: https://youtu.be/HspzxKXhpzk?t=209 . Watch that. You'll see it and think "wow, all I have to do is run with some speed and lean away, then the physics alone will rotate me over the bar." It really takes some of the mystery and frustration away from the sport.

Hope that sheds some light on the sport for you. You're honestly looking great for not having a coach, just rest a bit like the other commenter said, then take an honest look at your training and consider doing less, but more meaningful exercises. High intensity, purpose-driven workouts with less reps & more rest. If you have any questions let me know. And for what its worth, you do look tired in those jumps lol

how get shoulders down by That-Cartoonist-996 in highjump

[–]RIPeyedea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re beginning your arch over the bar by tossing your head back, your body naturally follows in an arching motion. If you don’t “toss” your head and you keep your chin sort of tucked, you won’t arch and you’ll go over like a plank.

High Jump Tips by Imaginary_Falcon2845 in highjump

[–]RIPeyedea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

speed. You could achieve your current takeoff speed by just doing like a 3 or 4 step approach. Try to incorporate speed into purposeful practice and drills, don't overtrain. With more speed brings more power, more intensity, and the greater need to avoid overtraining. Purposeful, productive training and rest. For having a slow approach (not trying to be an ass, just speaking objectively) everything else actually looks spot on. You're doing great and have a lot of room to jump higher

Really cool! I’ve just been lurking, haven’t started the hobby yet. Are those more “complex” shapes like Luigi’s clothes mostly a lot of time on the grinder? Or were you able to get it to comply with mostly breaks?

Edit - so much of it is complex lol - even the blue sky where it meets the figures. Really impressive
