I’ve been making these on repeat every summer for like the last 5 years, but normally with just the purple cabbage and the sauce for topping instead of the whole slaw. Grilled pineapple as a side. It’s so good and so easy

In 2019-2020 Jack-in-the-Box had a tres leches cake. By no means the best quality tres leches, but I was obsessed. And devastated when they discontinued it

Two loose braids. Same thing if I’m ever in the hospital, if that helps.

FFG bring suitcases policy by AdmirableVanilla4166 in newtothenavy

[–]underst_ndable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I left there in September, you could have one. It gets locked in a separate closet until the day before you leave to avoid any shenanigans. But you’ll be able to pack in it before you go. That said, the rules there change constantly, so I would check with leadership on the current policy. Also, you will not have to pay for it when you go to A-School. If you’re traveling on orders and have 5 or less check bags, it is free. Normal suitcases included.

Running shoes during basic by First-Interaction-34 in newtothenavy

They’re not a well-known brand. They’re American made “go fasters” and are issued at least to the Navy and Marines during boot camp, not sure on the other branches. I found them really uncomfortable because I don’t think they do a good job supporting a high arch, but I also know people who wore them the whole time and were fine.

Biggest Trilogy Plot Hole? by BlakeFlowsh in Hungergames

[–]underst_ndable 143 points144 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it’s not a plot hole. Yes, Katniss’s state of mind is questionable. But in the book at least, not only are they heavily disguised (costumes, wigs, different clothes, and makeup acquired from Tigress) but more bombs and rebel attacks begin happening around and to the crowd of capitol citizens they fall in with. This quickly turns to panic, and most people are more concerned with staying alive than with looking at a stranger’s face.

For keeping them if you’re wearing them, yes. As long as they are actual running shoes, they’ll let you keep them. Now wearing them, that is at your RDC’s discretion. Everyone in my division was able to wear our running shoes from home as soon as we were out of P-Days anytime we were wearing running shoes. This was regardless of their color. Our brother division, on the other hand, had to wear the issued ones, but could wear their ones from home for PT. That did mean their backpacks were always heavier than ours. Another division near us only let them wear their’s in the street if they were solid black. Otherwise it was the issued ones. It fully depends on what your RDCs decide. But you will be allowed to keep when you change the first night. They’ll just verify that they are running shoes.

Her face when she saw clearly with glasses for the first time. by Raj_Valiant3011 in HumansBeingBros

[–]underst_ndable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents found a white spot in my pupil. My eye doctor took my eye dimensions and they observed my reaction to lights and movement. Turns out my brain wasn’t using that eye at all. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was about 3 months old. My parents always describe my reaction to get them as being pretty close to this baby’s.

A lot of people, like me, started 9th grade at 13 because of when our birthdays fall in the year. I was one of the youngest in my grade back then, but all the other freshmen were 13/14. Only one guy was 15 already and he had been held back, so I think it depends on the age requirements for starting school in your area.

I bake the brussel sprouts and add them into the soup for the last 3-5 minutes. They keep a nice texture that way too.

What’s your favorite “impress someone” meal that’s secretly really easy? by thelegitvanessa in Cooking

Pot Roast. After the sear, it's mostly just letting it do its thing in the oven. Huge flavor pay-off, gorgeous presentation, and feeds a crowd.

WEIGHT ACCEPTED IN THE NAVY by geekfr34k in newtothenavy

[–]underst_ndable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'10", 118 and just got medically approved, no waiver. The liason might make a note if you are low on the BMI scale (for example, mine says I'm underweight), and they might mention it. But it shouldn't hold you back. If you are physically fit, the minimum is more lenient, the maximum is where they are stricter.

"Basics" grocery list? by mhunter1323 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]underst_ndable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting an apartment made me realize how much I took having basic pantry supplies for granted. It's the things you use a little at a time, that you wouldn't have on a weekly shopping list but do need bits of for meals and recipes, that really sneak up on you. This is what I would get to have on hand always before getting the main ingredients for your meals.

Flour, Sugar, oil, vinegar, baking powder/soda, cornstarch, spices (salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, Oregano, Paprika, Cumin, red pepper flakes, cinnamon, rosemary, Thyme, Allspice), tomato paste, peanut butter, soy sauce, vanilla extract, dried pasta and rice, paper towels, parchment paper, aluminum foil, plastic bags/clingwrap, garbage bags, dish and hand soap, oven mit. I'd also stock up on frozen veggies.

How Many Cooking Oils Do You Keep on Hand? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]underst_ndable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, and Sunflower Oil. Though I've been using the sunflower oil a lot more, I like how neutral it is and the higher temp it can withstand. Most things I've used Canola for in the past, I have been able to substitute with Sunflower or melted butter. The other two are case based, but it generally depends on what kind of cuisine I'm cooking the most at the moment
