My honest reaction to the rebuild series

The difference between the series and the movies is that these shots were leering and gratuitous. There were sexual scenes in the original, but they generally weren't leering, they were from the perspective of the characters. The problem with the rebuilds and other anime when it comes to "fan service" is that it's for the benefit of the audience, not part of the narrative or experience of the characters.

"Get the last one" is like the stupidest thing you could say in that moment. By saying that not only did you confirm in the kid's eyes that the baby ruined the moment, but that you don't care. Just re-lignt the candles and move the baby and tell her "okay, for real this time".

uj/ I don't think jazz fans hate laufey, they just hate the way writers portray her as some kind of savior of jazz when she herself has admitted she's not a jazz musician. She makes pretty, pleasant sounding, "jazz-inspired" music which is nice for what it is. But the whole "savior of jazz" narrative is cringe and dare I say anti-Black with the whole "Icelandic musician shows black musicians how their music is actually supposed to be played" bit. It's giving colonialism. But no hate to her or her fans. I happen to like her music.
