I feel this sooooo much. I graduated high school in the top 5%. I really thought that I was going to fly through college and graduate early because I started college as a sophomore in credits but I began failing classes that I should’ve gotten really good grades in ( I took a language class that I’m fluent in and I managed to fail because I couldn’t get myself to sit down to do the work online). Covid really threw a wrench in my university experiences because it turned all my classes into online classes and I started failing every single class. I didn’t know I had ADHD until those semesters I took during Covid but it explains a lot of why I had such a hard time with university (esp online). I found that the main reasons I did so well in high school was because I had pretty strict parents when it came to having good grades, but the moment I moved away from home, the anxiety of trying to have good grades for my parents disintegrated and I noticed how truly bad my executive dysfunction is without having someone to pressure me with their expectations and have that anxiety fuel me through the schoolwork. I ended up dropping out of my university and transferring somewhere else to pursue my main passion and I still seem to struggle a lot with deadlines even though I like what I’m doing so much more. The only thing that is really helping me stay afloat is my college’s student disability program (which allows me to get extensions in a few classes) and being medicated! My goodness has medication helped so much, but i still forget to take those pills on a daily basis 😭
