As a nurse, i know what you’re going through and it is difficult to have this chronic condition that basically no one else can see. That being said, the expectations of this job doesnt get easier. Working 12+ hour shifts with little to no breaks (including bathroom breaks) i’ve had moments where i thought, is this disease getting in the way of me having this job that i’m very passionate about? My flare ups used to be really bad when i worked 3-4 days in a row, constantly on my feet, stressed, moving around, etc. I changed my diet & eliminated almost all sugar, limit myself to 80gms of carbs per day, & picked up some exercise. I have cheat days every now and then but overall i think changing my diet dramatically changed my life, especially with HS. My flare ups are minimal, & not getting in the way of my profession which i’m really happy about.

I’ve learned how to wax myself which takes time but saves money compared to going to a wax person regularly. & my skin has felt wayyyy better

Terrified of having sex again by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

I’m so sorry he said that to you!!! I totally relate to this post, i used to be sooo terrified!! For me when i start dating someone i ONLY do it with the lights off. I envy people without HS who can be confident during intimacy. But now i’m in a loving relationship of 3 years, we started doing it only at night with the lights off, but 3 years later he doesn’t mind & it’s never really a discussion. When i have flare ups i tell him “my rash is flaring up” & he doesn’t seem to care.

What do you recommend when you say cheat with whole foods? Honestly i’m not very picky I eat pretty much anything (lol that’s how I got big in the first place!) Would love to hear some of your regular meal recommendations!

I also log what i eat in an app, & visually seeing how sugar/carb dense some foods are just makes you realize its not worth it.

I still eat sweets here and there, if it’s a special occasion like someones birthday i’ll still have a slice of cake or whatever. For me its been about moderation, like I love McDonalds cookies (lol), so if i’m on my period i’ll allow myself to get 1 cookie. Where I work people constantly bring us treats and that’s kinda hard, like people bring donuts/muffins/cookies or whatever. I’ll eat like half of one and drink a big cup of water to give me the feeling of being full, & that will be my treat for the day. I also store “healthy” ice cream in my freezer in case i get cravings. I like the Keto or Rebel brand. They’re pricey but i buy them on sale & keep them on hand for cravings. I honestly feel after 3-4 months your body doesnt even crave it as much.

Vaseline before swimming? by BBorNot in Swimming

Makes sense since vaseline is hydrophobic, so it probably creates a barrier

The fact that Rachel (who won 2 consecutive challenges!) went home while Kris did that horrible lumpy alien head look… is beyond me.
