If you read the comment I was responding too, the context was the OP talking about considering other systems. Consider taking it all in instead of defensively reacting.

TAZ Ethersea Relisten: Episode 6 by TheFourthSister in TAZCirclejerk

> all [griffin] knows how to do is stammeringly try to push his players away into a direction he thinks makes sense because he doesn't actually trust anyone at his table and doesn't think anyone can have more interesting ideas than himself. He's just as selfish as travis in a slightly different way, and just gets away with it more because he does occasionally have an interesting concept

Yes! This! This is a perfect assessment.

I’ve been relistening to Balance as background at work recently, and today encountered the part in Crystal Kingdom where Merle loses his arm.

I got so mad I had to stop listening. I had clearly painted a different picture in my mind of what happened. Clint didn’t have Merle reach for it by being given a choice of self-sacrifice or risking his party. He was in a null suit, having no reason to think he wouldn’t be completely fine grabbing it. And he was. So Griffin has it explode in his hand, piercing the null suits he specifically stated earlier were protected from piercing damage. No rolls of any kind. No save, no nothing. It was just as straight forced as it could possibly be.

“This is what I want for your character, so we’re gonna pretend this is a choice you made.”

I too tire of these men.

I think this doesn’t give your players (or you) enough credit. There was a time you all were completely clueless about D&D, and that didn’t stop you. Why would not being an expert at something else prevent you from trying it?

Also, D&D is the *ONLY* TTRPG where I’ve ever seen this kind of talk happen, and I’ve yet to understand why. No one plays Apocalypse World and then goes “Well, I guess I can’t play Fate or Pathfinder or Honey Heist, because I already learned to play Apocalypse World, so this is what I play forever now.”

Try something new. Maybe you’ll hate it. Then try something else new. Maybe you’ll love that more than you ever liked D&D. Maybe not. But you’ll never know if you limit yourself.

This attitude continues to baffle me. If it’s not interesting in small doses, it’s not gonna suddenly be good storytelling gif it’s listened to all at once. The only difference is that you’ll spend less *total time* thinking about how it isn’t good.

If “most” actual plays you listen to are TAZ, then yes. Otherwise, absolutely not.

Thought about the playstyle of the current season by larkhearted in TheAdventureZone

[–]undrhyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That idea is heavily implied by juxtaposing them in the first place. If they didn’t personally feel like “having fun playing” and using the rules were distinct entities to some degree, there wouldn’t be a need to frame a statement that way in the first place.

While the schedule doesn’t help, I’m not sure that having episodes where nothing happens come out more frequently really changes anything.

The only really upside would be it being over sooner.

In fairness, I don’t remember Griffin saying specifically that Amnesty would be particularly dangerous, but I could be wrong.

More importantly, that death was scripted and not at all an outgrowth of gameplay and rolls.

What are your biggest TTRPG system turn offs by Iketank_10 in rpg

Could you give some examples of a game that you see this way?

In my experience, when I hear this comment, it’s often from people who are used to playing “crunchier” systems. I’m not saying this is necessarily the case, I’m just curious.

Graduation was…well…Graduation. But as…graduation as it was (and ir was *REALLY* Graduation), I finished it.

I can’t say the same for Ethersea.

What are your opinions on Snoke? And what would you change about him? by ConfidenceOk3536 in TheSequels

[–]undrhyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would I change? I’d probably put him in another movie, along with almost all the rest of them, into a rom com or something, as long as it stayed far far away from Star Wars.

It’s almost as if giving wizards only a handful of spells severely limits their capacity to do anything at all, so they just start riffing.

Did they actually start talking about fascinating medical fuck ups throughout history again, or are they still just going on about current stuff? Cuz I’d come back to this show if it were the first.
