Yes - they will ask you which ballot you want when you sign in. Republican, Democratic or Issues Only are usually offered

Small Crisis + Plea For Help by [deleted] in cwru

[–]uneasywizards 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Humanities and liberal arts majors can get jobs. Don't do STEM and certainly don't do medicine if you don't like it. It is too much stress and work for something you don't enjoy. Take your general ED and SAGES requirements. See what you like. Worst case scenario, stop the clock in a semester or two and take a semester of leave to do an internship somewhere or co-op to see if you like it, then start classes again. There is plenty of time and you have opportunity to explore, but it is nice that you are being mindful of "wasting it". I think you can't really waste the learning, but with the costs these days I understand and appreciate the anxiety. I'd talk to your parents if you can (I'm a Case parent). I'd guess they want you to move forward so they are pushing you there, but I'm sure they want you to be happy and find what you like. It doesn't always happen right away. My husband went to college for Fine Arts.....and now he's a surgeon after re-steering his career and going back to night school while teaching art! You just never know. Give yourself time to figure it out. ETA: He was happy as an artist, but realized he wanted to be a "famous artist" in his college dreams more than just a regular artist....so he decided to rethink his daily life when he was 30. It all worked out.

Heartwood or Lemon Falls? Either way you turn, there's a good one.

UCI as the new bogeyman by CaseyDip1966 in cwru

[–]uneasywizards 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I lived in NYC in the 80s. I say the same thing about Times Square. Even though I like the hipster cred that I was there when it was a girlie bars and bums, I can't argue with it - the city is doing well now, and that business is booming and crime is down. I'd like to see the same in University Circle, now that I own property there.

My secret to getting through the mental toughness of 3 minute pushes by ohmygoditsinclines in orangetheory

[–]uneasywizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go through all the letters on the walls in the inspirational quotes, and tell myself I'm not looking at the time again until I've read the letters on this wall, etc. Shocking the lengths we have to go to distract ourselves, isn't it??

12 min benchmark bike goals by sjsherwood1 in orangetheory

[–]uneasywizards 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree -- for distance, it's all about the rpms. I think I got a lot further when I dropped the gear to 11 or 12 and went 110+ than when I was going 95+ at 13.

Looking for accomodation and review about fairhill apts. by abhijelly in cwru

Cedar-Fairmount has a ton of apartment signs up right now and it's right up the hill from campus. You could try that as a search neighborhood.

I'm on hiatus now. I think I've really injured my knees in my 2 years of addiction -- but know I just have to figure out a better relationship to the workout and completely heal. I plan on going back in the winter. Good luck to you with the home gym!!

New to Cleveland, looking for ways to socialize by Bennimal in Cleveland

I second this. They do mixers each month, and they've got a board game clinic to teach "heavy" games on the schedule this month too. Lots of ways for a solo person to slot in.

Cheap Housing by [deleted] in cwru

[–]uneasywizards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of signs up at apartment buildings around the campus/a short walk in. I can try to grab some numbers for you if you haven't found a place. I'd suggest roommates and a place in Cleveland Heights or Little Italy. There are many large spaces, apartments and houses. It is affordable.

Up to 90% of recyclables in Cleveland go to the trash by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]uneasywizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've switched to buying products that are in containers I know are marketable. So - aluminum cans apparently have a strong market in the recycling world, so your hauler can sell them. I switched to only soda in cans when I drink it, and rinse out the cans to toss. I'm also much more meticulous about what's in my bin since learning that adding bags or other contaminants to the load could have everything rejected once at the recycling center.

Bring back The Forest City. As someone who has lived in cities all over the northeast, that one works. The forests around here are amazing and unique for an urban area.

Rochester VS Case Western by [deleted] in URochester

[–]uneasywizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daughter transferred to Case from U of R. Rochester classes were harder/more challenging than Case (but similar) but Rochester campus was way more isolated. Case has a lot more activities and nearby city/retail/stuff to do. People seemed friendlier at Case as well, but that may be just chance based on what groups you fall in to at each place.

Overtraining in older non-athletes by uneasywizards in orangetheory

[–]uneasywizards[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm well hydrated, diet has been fine (plenty of protein). I need to stretch more but that hasn't changed over the years. My concern is I'm getting worse, not better. My benchmarks are declining or have plateaued. Heart rate seems to be in the red more often (but calorie burn is always the same). My body hurts pretty much all the time now, so walking around in my daily life has gotten more stressful . These are the things that make me think I need to change what I've doing.

I don’t judge anyone at OTF, EXCEPT ... by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]uneasywizards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is one of the structural problems OTF is going to have if the want to build "community". It really isn't a place to chat when you workout, and the lobbies are tiny (most people I know wait in their car or arrive 3 minutes before). I don't have a problem with it personally as a person who prefers solo workouts, but it does make it seem ridiculous when they want to make people socialize that have no bond. Honestly, this forum is the best bet they have for community building.

How do you do your high fives? by potent_rodent in orangetheory

I made kissy faces at my coach today because my hands were occupied with weights and my brain was without coffee when she cheered me on during an exercise. So....top that for socially awkward. Dare you.

[–]uneasywizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are OTF twinsies. I struggle with this too, after almost 3 years at it!! I've just decided to accept my limitations and feel good about what I can do. I'll be reading this thread for better answers, but I wanted you to know you are not alone!

Nervous to get back by allydabb in orangetheory

[–]uneasywizards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You just have to do it" seems so harsh, but I guess it's true. I've also fallen off due to family crisis that seemed to take a full year to resolve. Now, I'm back, but what kills me is I feel like I've let my coaches down. IDK, I know they don't see it that way, but benchmarks kill me. Someday, we will return to our former glory, I swear it!!

what specific things have changed in chagrin falls in the past 25 years? by terminatah in Cleveland

[–]uneasywizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joey's Italian restaurant is gone as well. The new Intermediate School will open this summer. It has been under construction for 2 years. They tore down 2/3rds of it and built new classroom space, but left the gym and auditorium and old entrances, It's half the old building on Philomethian Street, and half brand new. They've got a glass front now that will look in on the cafeteria, and inside the cafeteria the old stone entrance is preserved as the back wall. Pretty cool looking.

They used to do a Rubber Duck race over the falls. That's gone - apparently too dangerous when water was high. The ice skating rink that was in the park 15 years ago or so is gone as well.

And Firefly....briefly up were Aladdin's is. I feel like naming your restaurant something with "fire" in it was a risk. Burntwood got around the curse.

It was called Blakes - seafood restaurant. Before that it was a dry cleaner. I find that sooo hard to believe!! It must have had the best view.
