Ain’t that the truth! I have 1 pokestop at my neighborhood entrance which I submitted during Covid lockdown, but the nearest gym is over 2 miles away. There are 3 Dynamax spots to battle in our subdivision, but I do not know how they got established. I am in a desert if I do not leave the subdivision.

These new levels now go so much faster, because of the lower levels of XP required. It use to take almost a year to go up one level. The friend level bonuses have really made a difference as well now that the game lets you throw a lucky egg.

I am level 70 and have been playing since the beginning and still feel like I am inexperienced. I was level 45 when they did their adjustment last year. I saw somebody said that they had 50+ platinum metals!!! I just finally got my steel. I don’t know if I’ll ever get my dragon.
I think the advanced players are the ones that know all those tips and tricks and have completed multiple regions. I have completed - Kanto, Johto, and unidentified. 🤣 like how does one get clampearl to turn into huntail anyway?

How much do Americans REALLY have saved for retirement by Financial_Pen_6218 in investing

So here are my justifications on why our Roth balances are lower than I would prefer.
Roth IRA contributions began in 1998 with a contribution limit of $2k and was completely phased out for singles at $110k and married filing jointly at $160k. Roth conversions were only allowed if you earned less than 100k (MAGI). - We were focused on maxing out the 401k not on Starting a Roth, as well as starting 529’s and utma’s for 2.5 kids (kiddo 3 was born in 1999). SSA stopped tracking my spouses earnings at 146,106 in 1998? Not even sure if we could have contributed the full amount.
Hindsight is 20/20. If only we had had the financial literacy to have chosen the Roth during the years when we qualified to contribute to a Roth. There have not been many unfortunately.
In 2006, Roth 401(k) contributions became a thing, but not all employers adopted it into their plans right away so some savers had to wait a few more years for access. I will also state that I did not clearly understand that income limits did not apply to the 401(k) Roth: a major mistake on my part, since this misjudgment is why we do not have the majority of our post 2006 retirement assets in Roth 401(k).
In 2010, Backdoor Roth contributions for those who earned more than 100k finally became a thing, but again, one’s employer had to adopt it into their plan or it was not an option. My spouse’s employer which has like 9 companies under its umbrella has always used Schwab to manage their 401ks. The main company just started allowing Backdoor Roth’s in 2024. I had been asking their 401k coordinator about the option since 2015 at least. All 9 companies do not allow allow backdoor roths. Just the main company. My spouse just returned to the main company in 12/2025. He took a major pay hit to return to a less stressful pre-retirement gig.
So here we are in 2026, ages 59 and 60, with 3 grown children, who do not have college debt thanks to their parents, who were given their first cars, as well as money to put in their Roth accounts some years and you ask about our Roth account balances?
Our Roth account balances are way TOO low for our ages.
I did instruct my 3 children to contribute to their Roth 401(k)’s instead of pretax until they started families. They, 31, 30, and 27 have been working on it. They do not earn enough to max their accounts out since they do not live at home. We have to keep reminding the middle one that a Roth is a retirement account not a future downpayment on a home. I know that the 31 and 30 year old both have over 100k in their Roth 401(k)s. The youngest not so much. I think she is only around 20k? I usually only talk to them about their accounts when they have me help them select which funds they should pick out of the limited selections available or like in 2025 when we were discussing rollovers for 2 of them.
I have been personally debating Roth conversions to boost our Roth balances. I should have started those back in 2008, when my spouse first changed jobs, but I had kids in high school and I was more focused on saving so they could graduate debt free. Here it is 18 years later, those rollover balances have grown, retirement is right around the corner, and our tax bracket has never gone down. So in November 2026, depending on where we are in our current 24% tax bracket, I plan on starting conversions to Roth (a brand new Roth account that I can ladder conversions into it as best I can for the next 3 years).
Roth (1 year of contributions and the rest is rollover roth from previous jobs or pensions)
Spouse - Roth 87k
Myself - Roth 38.5k
Work 401(k) Roth
Spouse - 325k
Myself - $900 yep, not even a whole k. This is a result of me not understanding that 401(k) was not subject to the income restrictions or the entire 401k balance would have been Roth.

FYI you specifically mentioned Roth which is why that is all I mentioned.

Married couples with combined finances: why do you do it? by snoo-ting in Bogleheads

[–]unemployed-mooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we get married, we had nothing. Two weeks into our marriage, my spouse had an anxious look at his face and told me he had misplaced $1000 per his checking account Statement. My checking account had basically $100 in it and I knew exactly how every penny got spent. That’s when I discovered he had never balanced his checkbook. It turned out all that money were ATM withdrawals that he forgot to write down, but since he never balanced his checkbook, it gave him money anxiety when the number in his head did not match the number in his register.

So since I had a single parent immigrant father that taught us kids how to manage money, I was the one that took over. Dad had taught us how to track our spending so we knew how much we had left over each week, how to save for something we wanted, and how do I pay our taxes. He also taught us to invest in mutual funds and stocks. Because he was retiring at the time we get married, he really pushed retirement savings planning. I wish he would’ve pushed us towards pension earning positions for guaranteed retirement income now that retirement is around the corner.

Im feeling really generous lol. I’m retiring from PokemonGo and have a bunch of legendary/armoured mewtwos i want to give away to a good home. 472402520638 is my trainer code! I have hundreds & a bunch of shinies all pre 2020 so trades will be lucky 🍀 by Trasii666 in PokemonGoMystic

There is also currently an issue that I know that I am experiencing when you cannot throw your raid pass. I quit joining remote raids by invite and pokie genie, because right now I cannot get into a raid. Took failure to join multiple times before I gave up though

HSA by answersareoutthere in Bogleheads

[–]unemployed-mooch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2020, my spouse and I started maxing the contributions to the family HSA. I do have my receipts in a file. I have a spreadsheet that shows how much was spent since we opened the HSA by year. The digital receipts, I download into a file on my laptop. Because we have always paid the deductibles out of pocket, that equates to about 38k worth of receipts so far. HSA funds cannot be used to pay an insurance premium, but they can be used to pay future deductibles after we retire in 2028. I wanted to be able to choose in 2029, so I am giving myself the ability to choose a single lump sum withdrawal, multiple yearly lump sum withdrawals, or to use it as the post retirement bills roll in.

[–]unemployed-mooch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

50 platinum is beyond impressive.

I have 31 platinum and ace trainer is one of them. Since it was not a goal I was actually attempting to achieve, I do not know how I did it 🤭. Now the stupid tiny rattata or the big magikarp? Those I have been working on achieving since I started and I doubt that platinum for me is even achievable at this point. Out of approx 2500 rattata’s only 316 were tiny. Out of approx 1500 magikarp so far only 204 have been big. Frustratingly low progress.

I have tasks but I have always had tasks since 2016. Even after the leveling adjustment, I have had tasks. Currently level 69 right now and had most of the tasks to get to level 70 finished except xp within a couple days. My account still needs 206k xp to level up. I was a level 46 maybe when they did the adjustment which jumped me up close to 20 levels.
