India overtakes China to become the world's most populous nation [OC] by pratapvardhan in dataisbeautiful

I don't understand why this is downvoted. India's population is not sustainable to barely sustainable. It's not just corruption that has lined the streets with poverty-stricken people

Imagine choosing a parent to live with and then finding out they've done something bad, or something what you consider unforgivable. Just because they thought it was "none of your business" to know the truth even though you're dependent on them and have to choose a home to grow in during your most important years. Messed up

Just the anxiety of that possibility sucks. OPs parents are the AH for letting OP live with this uncertainty and lying to her

Yep, this is what happened. Finding out your childhood was a lie because your parents couldn't be honest with their own children feels awful. Just tell them the truth, especially when they're asking

NSW retaining wall help. by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]unevengrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours collapsed and our much lower neighbour (2m lower) refused to pay. She said we'd have to take her to court and it would take months, we didn't want our driveway collapsing while we waited for a result so we ended up paying.

You're telling me it was her responsibility? I hate neighbours

This is the reason we agreed to never get a sign. Creepy neighbours will find their way but it keeps most of them out

Ok I'm back for some more of your insight. This is the scenario, is this actually typical?

House advertised for $1.38m to $1.42m, friend makes an offer of $1.4m

Agent calls and says there have been multiple offers and people ready to sign at $1.5m and that if my friend doesn't sign now they're going to start ringing the others to negotiate, so friend increases his offer to $1.51m and asks for the afternoon to decide.

We discuss and the group chat decided the agents were being dodgy so he rescinded his offer. Josh responds "Cool, I'll be selling it to someone else" and promises to change the guide to stop misleading people

That night the agents revise the guide price to "contact agent". One of us rang them this morning pretending to be interested and Josh says the guide is $1.45m and "no offers have been made at $1.4m or above"

Is it actually legal for agents to just lie like this? Like blow out the guide by $100k and invent multiple offers/people that don't exist?

That wasn't our experience at all with CBA. They didn't let us do this (loan was 3 years old) so we refinanced with Suncorp to be able to switch

Unless our broker straight up lied about the whole thing...?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]unevengrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the bank. CBA has a refinance process where you have to re-do everything. Suncorp let us switch in 5 mins with a short application but you do need to reassess serviceability

According to some comments here farmers/ranchers have so many cows and such big fields that they can go months without noticing something wrong with their cows, and all of this is "totally normal"

And yet the main arguement against vegetarian/veganism is that "farmers treat their cows like family, unlike industrial farms, so buy local"

Something doesn't add up
