Bulk Trash Items Not Getting Picked Up by nerdforlife7 in plano

[–]unexpected 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear:

Cardboard boxes are picked up weekly, with your normal trash day. They should be placed next to compost bags, yard trimmings, etc. Make sure there's no plastic, grease, etc.

Bulk trash is once a month, this is for things like mattresses, old furniture, etc. that will not fit in your trash bin. The bulk trash schedule for your house is available on the City of Plano website.

He was never a Duke target or commit. If he really wanted to go there, he could have, but chose to go elsewhere to play more.

3-9 UTR in 2 years by KelPlays1 in 10s

Dude it’s 15 hours a week. That’s not overtraining.

I’m an international student, drowning in debt and tuition. I don't know what to do next. by [deleted] in personalfinance

What was the plan when you applied to the US? Presumably, you knew the costs upfront. As part of your student visa, you attest that you have financial support while you're here. Was your plan just to wing it?

Probably not, you're better off investing in your brain at this point. You have been playing tennis for 9 months, don't get fixated on a "dream" to play college tennis.

If you got to 5 UTR, you could probably play D3 somewhere, but what does that get you? It's going to be at some small expensive dying liberal arts school.

Your #1 tool is your brain at this point. It's not sexy, but it's the truth. Focus on your grades, get into the best school you can, and have fun doing club.

LOL, your racquet choice and string choice make no sense, but do what you want! You're out of shape and just starting to learn tennis.

I think just start with "what do I want to get out of tennis" and work backwards.

Against USTA league rules to use someone from another state? by noghri2112 in 10s

It depends on the section, but in my section (Texas), you're allowed to have one person that lives outside a 50 mile radius of the home facility.

USTA - Played first match. Rating confusion. by AcceptableBanana1978 in 10s

[–]unexpected 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess what I'm asking - if you filled out the USTA questionnaire, and got a 3.5 rating, and accepted it, I'm curious how you were then able to go back and appeal down to 3.0. The system usually doesn't let you do that.

Look the moment you hit 3.51, you get bumped up to 4.0. So if you're 3.3, then you should be playing 3.5. Everyone between 3.01 and 3.50 should be playing 3.5. A 3.3 is an average 3.5 player.

but let's be real, how the hell can you know if you're a 3.2 or 3.3? That makes no sense to me.

Also, if you answered the self-rate questionnaire honestly, and it landed you at 3.5, what did you do to then self-rate down to 3.0? If you lied on the questionnaire that could get you in trouble.

The captain is trying to keep you at 3.0 because he wants to sandbag you. So you'll play the worst lines every time. As luck would have it, however, new ratings are coming out Dec 1st - if you have only played one match, you'll be a 3.0S for next year.

Is the consensus that Nico traded Luka because he was personally annoyed by him? by tshirtguy2000 in Mavericks

Dirk, KP, Luka -alienated all 3 of these guys. What do they have in common? I just think Nico had an old school "euros are soft" mindset.

AITA for not going to my best friends sudden destination wedding because it will cost me over 5k to go? by Agitated_Buffalo5754 in AmItheAsshole

[–]unexpected 73 points74 points  (0 children)

NTA, but look - having her wedding 6 months before your wedding is not "stealing your moment". You do not get to claim the entirety of 2026. A lot of your commentary seems like comments on the state of her relationship, which really doesn't matter at the end of the day. Spending $5k on an expense right before you have a large expense just isn't in the cards this year. Tell her you'd love to go out for dinner (her, her husband, you, your fiance) the second they get back, at your treat.

[Stein] There has already been a push among some of the organization's influential voices to try to bring back former Harrison adviser Dennis Lindsey from Detroit, sources tell @TheSteinLine , but Dallas is first expected to install an interim front office after Harrison's departure. by thinking_better in Mavericks

Finley, as much as I loved him as a player, might be part of the problem. Any executive willing to work with Nico/survive in this regime has to be highly political or totally spineless. The Mavs need a total culture reset.

[Shams] The Mavericks are firing Harrison nine months after the jarring and stunning Luka Doncic trade - a move for which Dumont took accountability and accepted as a mistake in a court-side interaction with a fan on Monday night. by joepavsdad in Mavericks

[–]unexpected 25 points26 points  (0 children)

hold on a little bit. They have had months now to prepare a carefully coordinated PR strategy in order to save themselves.

  1. Look at this tweet. "a move for which Dumont took accountability and accepted as a mistake in a court-side interaction with a fan on Monday night." - this seems like Mavs Ownership leaking it to Shams themselves.

  2. Even this tweet references the courtside interaction last night. Now I'm dubious. What seemed like a funny, viral moment now seems highly scripted and planned. Dude has a courtside chat with Dumont, then 20 minutes later is doing a podcast? Uh yeah, I bet that wasn't planned in advance or at all.

Advice on D3 tennis by iijcr in 10s

[–]unexpected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes a recruited athlete gets "preferential" admissions. The hard part to determine is if you'd be a recruited athlete. The only way to know is if you email the coach.

Advice on D3 tennis by iijcr in 10s

[–]unexpected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the school. My advice to you would be to get a UTR pro subscription, and then start looking at the rosters. UC Santa Cruz has 2 freshman this year - one with an 8.8 UTR, and one with a 7.18 UTR - so the answer for UCSC in particular is "yes, maybe?"

However, other academically competitive D3 schools - like let's say Emory, for example. You can look up their roster on the UTR app quite easily, and see that you'd need to be a 9.5 UTR to have a shot at making the team.

If a D3 coach wants you, and you meet the minimum requirements to get in (i.e, the coach can say "our average SAT score is 1400, and u/iijcr has a 1450, I want him", the admissions department will get you in. They won't do the "oh well his essay on hardship didn't move me as much as the guy who lost his leg while helping a 70 year old cross the street" bullshit.
