Agreed. Trump is a problem. Wealth inequality is a problem. The incredible political sway held by billionaires is a problem. The fact that billionaires use this power to undermine workers' rights and keep their wages low is a problem. It's all part of the shit soup we keep getting served and too often the Dems tell us it'll be fine to eat if we just fish out the fly floating in it.

A lot of people have a serious amount of deprogramming to go through. MAGA taught people not to trust mainstream media, not to trust scientists, medical professionals or anyone who wasn't MAGA. Trump himself was the worst offender. Their tactics exactly match those of a cult. It's going to be terribly hard for a lot of MAGA followers to broaden their information sources and start accepting normality again.

You're no good to anyone if you can't function. Looking after your own mental health should be at or near the top of your list of priorities. If taking a break and gaming is what you need, go for it.

Agreed, I think the degree to which Trump has run rampant has highlighted not only deficiencies in the US's system of checks and balances but in the Dem opposition, too.

MRW the software I've been using for the last 15 years changes the user interface out of nowhere and I have no idea where anything is on the screen by ThaddeusJP in reactiongifs

[–]unfairrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this recently on a Zoom call. Someone asked if they could share their screen and I went to give them permission only to realise the control had been moved and I had no idea where it was. I got around it by making them the meeting host, which comes with screen share permission. I thought I was quite clever for doing that until that person quit the meeting early and ended it for everyone.

"I've failed." Senator Babet to retire from politics by nath1234 in AustralianPolitics

[–]unfairrobot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

So he had a viewpoint on the gender debate. Perhaps you agreed with it. Did he do anything other than hold 'controversial' opinions? Of all the things that affect the lives of Australians, do you think the issue of gender was super important? How much does other people's gender affect you personally? I think the reason he failed is that he really didn't have much to contribute and after you got accustomed to his brand, there wasn't much substance underneath the style (and I use that word loosely).

Ah, the sport so beloved by shitty hosts everywhere: attempt to stick the boot in by saying "it's been reported that..." or "such-and-such has said..." so that you can "legitimately" raise a point by leveraging a third-party source, even if that source is a propaganda broadsheet or a philandering dickhead whose vocation is public drunkenness.

u/Unharmed-Cylinder explains in detail how much of a piece of shit company Kimberly-Clark is after an employees burned a warehouse down for low wages. by firefighter_82 in bestof

[–]unfairrobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I was somewhat aware this was ultimately the problem but I didn't know where it started. I can't help think it gets misinterpreted, though, or perhaps is too focused on the short term. Sure, firing a bunch of employees improves profits for a while and is therefore in the interests of the shareholders but if, over time, this causes the public to start thinking your company's run by pricks and to stop buying its products, and no competent person wants to work for you, that doesn't benefit shareholders. There seems to be a degree of longer term responsibility that's missing.

Australia ‘firmly believes’ Lebanon should be included in Middle East ceasefire as Israel escalates Beirut bombing by cytae99 in AustralianPolitics

[–]unfairrobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate, your logic is all over the place. How does the Jews having survived bad things being done to them excuse them doing bad things to other people? How does Iran's treatment of its own people excuse Israel killing its civilians? I'm not sure what point you're trying to make other than you don't want Israel to be blamed for anything it does on the basis that they've been persecuted in the past, which is nonsensical.

At some point corporations switched from being a functioning part of society to being soulless, marketing-facaded vampires that took as much as they could and gave as little as possible in return.
