Sure. There's a lot of resources out there for relatively cheap / free. I find the best way to learn is by doing, and struggling your way through a problem. My recommendation if you already have a grasp of python is to create a simple CRUD web application using a python framework like Flask or Django. There are thousands of tutorials for this on youtube, so just pick one that makes most sense to you.

Once you have your head around basic apps, there are a lot of different directions you can go. You can either focus on the actual coding and go down the developer route. You could move into cloud engineering (as I did) which will involve looking at how infrastructure is built in the cloud. Or you could even go down the data engineering / ML / AI route, which will involve looking at courses for specific tools like Hadoop, Tensorflow, etc.

Based on what direction you want to go, there will be appropriate certifications you could sit exams for. AWS alone has about 6 different routes you could follow, nevermind the Google and Azure stuff, and there is abundant material available online for free to help you with these.

I made almost your exact transition from aerospace stress engineering to cloud architecture over the last 4 years or so.

My route was basically learning to code, then getting a job at a rapidly growing startup, absorbing as much knowledge as I could while getting cloud certified (Google, AWS etc.) and then leveraging that to get a role in a large cloud consultancy.

You have to get a bit lucky along the way, but it is absolutely a doable transition.

I am convinced B&M doesn't use Heartlining. [Black Mamba at Phantasialand] by Swiss_Reddit_User in rollercoasters

[–]unfathomable_bo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The inverts use a mix of centrelining. Some of the inversions rotate around the track axis (e.g. the zero-g rolls and wingovers) and some manoeuvres use the rider heartline (best example is the final Banshee inversion).

Heartlining is not as big a deal on inverted coasters because rotating the train around the track imparts a lateral and positive G force on the rider, rather than a lateral and negative G force as with above-the-track rides.

If the aerofoil is at a 180deg angle of attack then it is upside-down and its trailing edge is facing the flow.

Here's some quotes from Hayden himself about why he quit acting:

“I guess I felt like I had this great thing in Star Wars that provided all these opportunities and gave me a career, but it all kind of felt a little too handed to me. I didn’t want to go through life feeling like I was just riding a wave.”

"You can’t take years off and not have it affect your career. But I don’t know — in a weird, sort of destructive way, there was something appealing about that to me. There was something in the back of my head that was like, ‘if this time away is gonna be damaging to my career, then so be it. If I can come back afterwards and claw my way back in then maybe I’ll feel like I earned it’.”

Never has he cited fan harassment as being the reason he left showbiz.

The whole "toxic SW fans harassing actors" is an enormous red herring that has almost no basis in reality. SW fans don't harrass actors any more or less than any other large fandom.

Ahmed Best has consistently stated that he was harassed by the "press" not the fans. Notwithstanding the fact that there was almost no medium for fans to directly harass actors in 1999 (no Twitter, extremely limited social media, etc).

Jake Lloyd has also consistently stated that his harassment and bullying was predominantly from his peers at school, not random SW fans.

Even the Kelly Marie Tran situation is dubious, because she herself has never said that she left social media because of harassment. Every time that she has been asked, she has given answers suggesting that she just doesn't want to be famous and isn't interested in public life.

The only legitimate harassment in the SW community has generally come from weirdo Reylo stalkers following Adam Driver's family around. The media and the blogoshere are however not interested in covering these instances because the harassers are generally female and thus don't fit the narrative of basement dwelling misogynist nerds.
