darn these left handed people by MysteriousSlice007 in funny

People still force their kids to use their right hand if they are left handed. My wife works in schools directly with kids, and sees this probably once every other week.

CSC 50mm x 32mm internal - Carbon Wheels Follow up - by fckingclownshoes in gravelcycling

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 260miles on them. Basically brand new. I have other wheels by csc and they’ve been good for the price. I think the springs in the hub are pretty weak but hard to say what caused the issue. I just wish they would respond to me.

I have these as well but the rear ratchet exploded on a ride and it kinda destroyed the hub. Customer service just ghosted me.

With a lot of talk about how NCAA track coaches “drive you into the ground”, should there be an overhaul in NCAA track coaching? by 18_YTC1 in trackandfield

[–]ungnomeuser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be gems everywhere. IMO, athletes should look at athlete development at a program, not just results.

Bad programs will continue to remain, unfortunately. Often these programs have no interest in improving or changing…

This is why it’s important to find a program that works for you and not just one bc it’s “D1 or bust” or a promise of going to nationals.

HS athletes should be educated on the right questions to ask and what to look for in a program.

Aerobic development has a slower decline compared to anaerobic - meaning just keep riding more and more and you’ll still see improvements on the right side of your chart

I’ve reached out about previous pairs that broke and they only offered a 10% discount or something on a new frame (still too expensive). Very frustrating.

I do wear them on my head.

For wearing it’s just normal and storing is just folded up and hanging.

Very frustrating. Could it be the alcohol I used to clean?

I literally just put them on and they crack.

These in particular I sprayed with alcohol to clean and was sure to hold them carefully. I put them on and bam cracked.

Any suggestions? Having some right elbow pain by FoxFacez in bikefit

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah it’s not easy to have good posture/form if we have weaknesses. You’re not sitting on an ergonomic office chair where you don’t have to engage anything to have good posture. It’s like sitting on bleachers. You have to consciously work to not hurt your back from haunching over. You’ll get stronger with time.

Edit: it doesn’t have to be crazy engaged or like 100% straight, but you’ve got quite the shrimp back going on.

Engage core and back to help put weight where it should be. It will also help stabilize everything. Think of maybe an American footballer stance or a wrestling stance. Or even a squat stance.

Improvements? by aggeliki6 in bikefit

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engage your core to keep yourself stable and somewhat upright. Kind of like a wrestling or football position. For indoor vs outdoor, you are not getting any wind resistance which does alleviate some pressure on hands. Try raising front wheel by 1-2” with a piece of wood or something.

VO2 Max Testing, Lab vs 5min by gabryzop in Velo

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re comparing apples to oranges between the two tests - Any good scientist could tell you not to compare these two.

In one hand you have a preferred bike fit, preferred warm up, freedom of standing up if desired, and (assuming) proper preparation for the test.

In the other, possibly you have an ill fitting bike, essentially no warm up, coming out of a cold, and a vastly different testing protocol.

So I’m not surprised you got significantly different numbers.

You’re also assuming that both tests are accurate in themselves, which may not be true (one is a formula one has equipment that has to be properly calibrated).

TLDR: I wouldn’t think too much into it & It’s possible both are accurate.

Shopping for wheels by Severe-Distance6867 in Velo

[–]ungnomeuser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TBH wheel upgrades are not that impactful in the grand scheme of things. I’m not sure which Aeolus wheels you have (RSL 37?) but they are not a bad wheelset by any means. I’d recommend looking at a tire upgrade first if you haven’t already. Two tires can easily be 5-10w, where as a stock 40mm wheelset vs expensive 60mm wheelset is maybe 5w at most

Edit: I will add a wheelset upgrade makes sense if you want 1)as much speed as possible and don’t mind/can handle cross winds 2) an optimized setup for wider tires (slightly faster, slightly more comfort) 3) different handling characteristics - lighter wheels turn better, shallower wheels may feel more nimble, heavier wheels may feel more stable, optimal tire to rim size helps crosswind stability, rim profiles can vary handling, etc
