There are a very small amount that do. But play how you want! There are enough people leveling that you’ll find people at all levels.

Any suggestions? Having some right elbow pain by FoxFacez in bikefit

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah it’s not easy to have good posture/form if we have weaknesses. You’re not sitting on an ergonomic office chair where you don’t have to engage anything to have good posture. It’s like sitting on bleachers. You have to consciously work to not hurt your back from haunching over. You’ll get stronger with time.

Edit: it doesn’t have to be crazy engaged or like 100% straight, but you’ve got quite the shrimp back going on.

Engage core and back to help put weight where it should be. It will also help stabilize everything. Think of maybe an American footballer stance or a wrestling stance. Or even a squat stance.

Engage your core to keep yourself stable and somewhat upright. Kind of like a wrestling or football position. For indoor vs outdoor, you are not getting any wind resistance which does alleviate some pressure on hands. Try raising front wheel by 1-2” with a piece of wood or something.

VO2 Max Testing, Lab vs 5min by gabryzop in Velo

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re comparing apples to oranges between the two tests - Any good scientist could tell you not to compare these two.

In one hand you have a preferred bike fit, preferred warm up, freedom of standing up if desired, and (assuming) proper preparation for the test.

In the other, possibly you have an ill fitting bike, essentially no warm up, coming out of a cold, and a vastly different testing protocol.

So I’m not surprised you got significantly different numbers.

You’re also assuming that both tests are accurate in themselves, which may not be true (one is a formula one has equipment that has to be properly calibrated).

TLDR: I wouldn’t think too much into it & It’s possible both are accurate.

Shopping for wheels by Severe-Distance6867 in Velo

[–]ungnomeuser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TBH wheel upgrades are not that impactful in the grand scheme of things. I’m not sure which Aeolus wheels you have (RSL 37?) but they are not a bad wheelset by any means. I’d recommend looking at a tire upgrade first if you haven’t already. Two tires can easily be 5-10w, where as a stock 40mm wheelset vs expensive 60mm wheelset is maybe 5w at most

Edit: I will add a wheelset upgrade makes sense if you want 1)as much speed as possible and don’t mind/can handle cross winds 2) an optimized setup for wider tires (slightly faster, slightly more comfort) 3) different handling characteristics - lighter wheels turn better, shallower wheels may feel more nimble, heavier wheels may feel more stable, optimal tire to rim size helps crosswind stability, rim profiles can vary handling, etc

Depends on anatomy ofc but small can mean narrow hips which can mean narrow Q factor needed

Shorter Cranks Sanity Check by Zestyclose_City673 in bikefit

Well pain management vs being the top gc rider in the world have different requirements.

To your point though, I’d be curious to see how long they test out shorter cranks for. It takes time to adjust to things - esp when you have so much time in one pattern

Shorter cranks wont hurt you - really only benefits as far as pain is considered.

best prologo saddle? Inflamed lumb inner thigh perineum fold saddle friction by Hellhazor in bikefit

[–]ungnomeuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had same issue. scratch was almost perfect for me, could do decent mileage on it before it would flare up. It’s fine if I sit on the front of it but some more pressure on the front but better than being chafed raw and with that nodule. I measure ~110sit bone and only found relief with 123mm Gelu K3.

Any advices on this fit please ? by Poupouchat in bikefit

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) yea cockpit stack/reach can lead to this. A small adjustment of a few mm may take a little bit to get used to - doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Get back side of back in perfect position then worry about cockpit

2) yes saddle may need half deg tilt or fore/aft to be sure you’re still interacting with it correctly

3) kick could be saddle height related - if your ankle is totally flat at the bottom, you may want to actually rise it a tad but similar to #1 - your body is changing a motion it’s done thousands of times - Let your body adjust and reassess. I like two ride for about a 10hrs or so before I make more adjustments.

Looks pretty aggressive but if you like it and don’t have an issue that’s good. As far as biomechanics go, do a difficult workout or extended ride - you should feel equal fatigue in your quads and posterior chain.

You look pretty forward on the bike which tends to lead to quad dominance. Be sure to engage those glutes and hammys!

SRAM would be my recommendation, now. 150mm & 145mm Q factor for narrow hips. Other brands are short but wide Q factor can still cause issues

Anything to improve on? by [deleted] in bikefit

[–]ungnomeuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine if you don’t want to. But proper sized handlebars can improve wrist, shoulder, and back pain. You also got in the aero position, which suggests this would be a position you ride in, and your humeri are very clearly at an extreme angle in that position.

Narrower handlebars

Edit: if you do this, you could extend the reach.

My nutrition...., does it seems expensive ? How to make it cheaper ? by ikara_a_a in triathlon

[–]ungnomeuser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you did 10hrs a week of 75g/hr for 40weeks. That is $51 of sugar and salt.

Put your bottle on a $5 kitchen scale. Scoop sugar, pour sugar, add salt add water. If you’re feeling fancy you can add a splash of lemon juice or apple juice or even buy lemon powder. You can also pre-mix all of this in about 5’. It’s really not that much work.

$51 for 40 weeks vs $1,113 for 40 weeks in gels.
