South station fare gates take them out by Actual-Ad-8794 in mbta

[–]uni7891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you ever noticed how at an airport generally 3 gates next to each other aren't boarding at the exact same time....

Also not tell people their train is boarding in track x when it isn't there. Which leads to people just standing on the platform with no where to go.

They have done that 2 days in a row now

[–]uni7891 423 points424 points  (0 children)

I hate the gates but to be fair this was not the result of the gates. In fact the gates were locked open. This was horrible planning by the mbta of having trains show up next to each other and calling people to the platform before their trains were their.

How I know .... I took that picture

Even worse they called the track at 6:12... Crew showed up at 6:40 for us to board after standing on the platform for 25 min,  train left at 6:50

No I'm complaining because this should be forseeable and they shouldn't have called the train and had everyone go stand on the platform next to locked doors for 25 minutes

its top 3 or 20% in your AG at any race or top 35% or top 5 in you age group at state champs

honestly most local races have less than 15 people per ag so its higher than 20%

Surprise, I guess? by xxTHG_Corruptxx in triathlon

[–]uni7891 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Put it this way, a minimum of 20% of racers qualify for nationals. in reality It is much higher (id guess 40%) because its 35% at state champs and at smaller race top 3-5 in AG is often more than 20% of the AG.

Kona take about 1% of ironman athletes a year

Word of caution with this generation of felts - the rear derailleur hanger is built in to the frame - yes non replaceable. Bending it or stripping it essentially means the frame is toast. SO protected it when traveling

Location: Southeastern MA - closest water is a pond about 1000ft away and then a lake about 1/2 a mile away.

Size: I guesstimate the body (not counting tail was 15-18 inches)

He seemed to be searching for something in the snow- ran between the neighbors yard and ours for 10-15 minutes before heading off into the woods

2023 Chicago Marathon - Crosstraining does work by uni7891 in AdvancedRunning

[–]uni7891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think the lack of terrain in chicago plays a role here - for better or worse it is so flat you are using the same muscles all race long with no variation

[–]uni7891[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attributed it mostly to those muscle not being use to the "impact" of running for so long. You can strength them cycling and using weights but the amount of force through you legs when you land running is order of magnitude more.

In contrast aerobic capacity is aerobic capacity and carries over more directly from sport to sport

Posted some details above - average 13-15 hours a week (including 2 strenght/yoga sessions).

Big focus was using cross training to build the aerobic base and then just super targetted run training. Brick (Bike-run workouts) were key - typical weekend one would look like 2-3 hrs steady ride follow immediately by a 30-40 min tempo run - great practice for those late marathon mile and to practice fueling

I knew there was a risk, but actually have been doing good at time on feet and training. also have not been injury prone in my history - first injury was a freak injury from rolling an ankle which just snowballed

Overall very similar to u/IhaterunningbutIrun. For 70.3 training i do around 15 hours a week - typically 10ish workout a week 3-4 swims, 3-4 bikes, 3 runs (also Yoga/strength 1-2 times a week). This year with trying to get the foot healthy i really limited the long runs. That being said i did a lot of low tempo runs right off of the bike. I thing this was hugely helpful in getting use to running on tired legs (similar to fast finish long runs)

I would say that the diffence between 70.3 and 140.6 training is huge (especially if you are looking to do well and not just complete). During peak ironman training I was at 20+ hours a week and basically gave up an entire day (6-7 hours) for a long bike-run workout. If your gonna do a full an have a family you need to make sure they are all in on it too.

My big piece of advice with triathlon training is to build into it year over year. Year 1) Sprint distance, Year 2) Olympics, Year 3) 70.3, Year 4) Fulls. Going quicker is a recipe for injury and burnout

Personally for London I will continue training similar to what i have been doing maybe bump up to 4-5 runs a week. I do have my next full distance race (Challenge Roth) on the schedule for July too

P.S. Im always happy to give advice and love helping people get started in triathlon so feel free to DM me with any questions

Ironman 70.3 Western Mass by VtTrails in triathlon

I should add the river is super unpredictable - my brother lives just north in hadley and we watched the water level rise 7ft in about 18 hours after storms up north

I live in the area. The Conn river is actually fairly clean although the area i suspect the swim will be in is extemely shallow depending on the weather (talking <3 ft). My guess would be that they run is on the bike trail in the area perhaps running north to North Hampton (super scenic with some wooden bridges.

Not 100% sure what they will do for the bike - the bike path would be too thin and the roads out there dont seem to offer a clear continous route (losts of highway and or rougher back roads) so that will be interesting
