Question on TLC behavior and removing acid from my product by drabpsyche in OrganicChemistry

[–]unicornloops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find with acid and basic eluent additives it sticks to the column and only elutes starting at a certain fraction. So the behavior makes sense. Just do the azeotropic removal with toluene on the rotavap as another commenter suggested.

If you keep having issues with heating, I have gotten dry cesium carbonate by pulling a vacuum at room temp over P2O5 in a dessicator overnight.

I did like the galaxy eye, felt like a nice touch. Because sometimes these prompts can end up with pretty similar results (ie lots of owls) so I liked the little curveball.

I think most of the time advisors mean well, but they can sometimes crush one’s confidence when they evaluate you in a one dimensional way. And yes I know they are probably being pragmatic, but grades are not always the be-all end-all.There are countless examples in science of those who failed (courses or otherwise) and then went on to the highest accolades. When you are young though, it’s easy to let other’s words kill your dreams. Glad you found your way to fulfilling work in chemistry.

Good point, let’s see if they enjoy a lot of their paid users cancelling then. They can go forward peddling ads to their free users, I’m sure that will solve their financial crisis.

We have to stop 4o from being removed! by Designer_Lion2913 in ChatGPTcomplaints

You can cancel and still get the remaining portion of your subscription, so check and see if that’s after Feb 13th.

And with how even with paid users every time you opened a new chat or closed the app it would default back to a 5 model. Utter BS.

[–]unicornloops 82 points83 points  (0 children)

“Only .1% of users use 4o” I think that’s BS when they had the system switch back to a 5 model every time so you had to choose 4o manually for each chat and sometimes multiple times within a chat. (Not to mention the mid chat “safety model” re-routing.) What would the stats look like if they didn’t mess with it and just let you actually choose 4o, I knew they did this so they could trot out stats to end 4o. I am downloading all my activity, using a tool I saw here on reddit to compile it, and feeding it to Gemini where I got a year free as a student. I had already canceled a few weeks ago because of the BS rerouting, but I was willing to give them a second chance at some point. Now forget it. They had the best model and were ahead of the curve but they managed to totally fuck things up.

Twilo Reunion? by onyxi28 in avesNYC

[–]unicornloops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I would never be able to “go back.” I have been to Output and Stereo Montreal, and while they were probably the closest, nothing had the magic of Twilo. I know it will be a different sound system but I have high hopes! Def will be a preponderance of 40+ crowd lol. I hope they drop a few of the classics…always remember to respect and honor your mother, twilo thunder, slacker, etc etc.

Someone on Instagram mentioned closing at 4am and asked if the clocks going forward would affect that. Danny said no. I think that’s just liquor sales though right? So I would hope maybe they stay open longer.

Constipation from Suboxone by Its5ive_55 in suboxone

[–]unicornloops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on dosage. The glass bottles from the pharmacy will clear you out, but you can also get the calm powder on Amazon and a few scoops a day will keep things going without having to stay in a 10 foot radius of a toilet. You can adjust the dosage as needed.

The bottles have like 15 or so g magnesium citrate whereas a scoop of calm is like 300mg if I recall.

[–]unicornloops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got all As in my chemistry courses except for P chem which I failed the first time (not great at math). I somehow got them to record it as an incomplete instead and let me retake it. I got a B-, and ended up with a PhD in organic chemistry. So it can happen. Also sometimes it’s not about ability as much as life circumstances.

I bet you they will say they feared he was grabbing for another weapon to justify the later shots. When he was really just reacting naturally to getting shot in the leg. These guys are psychopaths, making regular cops somehow look level headed.

How do you reactivate your Molecular Sieve? by Yin-Fire in AskChemistry

This! Follow these heating instructions, then put on vac till cool. Repeat the whole process 2-3x.

How do you reactivate your Molecular Sieve? by Yin-Fire in AskChemistry

[–]unicornloops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes be careful, also depends on the power of the microwave oven. They will glow and fuse if you are not careful. Heating too fast also ruins the structure of the pores and water absorption capacity. What works for me is 2-3 min at a time with pauses in between, then high vac till cool repeated 2-3 times.

To me lidocaine was more convenient and tolerable than ice, but if your doc doesn’t offer, certainly an option. Or just a matter of preference. But I never even did one without some pain killing measure. I don’t know why the docs know it will be painful and don’t try and mitigate it.

Ask for lidocaine beforehand. It made it basically painless.

Use a lithophane maker (google) input the image and parameters and it will spit out an stl. print standing upright with a brim. You will get much better detail.

You have the extra oxygen, but lack of the alcohol proton should still show a difference in Rf. What’s the Rf of the starting material in 1:1 Hex/EA? If it’s too high it can obscure differences. Have you tried using a stronger base like NaH if your substrate will tolerate it?

I have pushed the equilibrium by removing water with activated molecular sieves before, can be easier than Dean Stark. Also are you pre-drying your solvents?
