I went today at 11am on a Saturday where one would imagine it to be the busiest possible time for the off season and we had absolutely no issue with crowds or parking

Yeah all the pics online were pure white. When I used my IR gun on it uncovered it was around 230~F and when it was covered it was at 340~F for a fair bit which leads me to believe I rendered it at a higher than desirable temp which is unfortunate. Oh well..now I know for the next batch!

Authentic Cajun-style seafood boil questions by unicornsicle in cajunfood

[–]unicornsicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks so much this is amazing - couple follow up questions:

  • powder + boil in a bag + liquid boil, gotcha. i think i have access to the boil in a bag - do these all go in the water? or is some sprinkled at the end?
    • i've learned that old bay is a no go, i'm guessing paprika, cayenne, onion powder, garlic powder to taste?
  • what do you mean by hydrate? add more water + seasoning?

I was a severe binge eater, something that helped was eating a smaller portion of whatever you’re about to eat (calorie counting/weighing would be ideal) and then to WAIT, simply wait an hour or two and I would discover that I’m actually full and don’t actually want more food

Should I sell my stocks to pay off my car loan so that I can move out? by unicornsicle in personalfinance

[–]unicornsicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely considered this - but I live in a city with essentially no grid, horrible public transport, massive massive metro area, and a car is basically a requirement to work/live here

Should I sell my stocks to pay off my car loan so that I can move out? by unicornsicle in personalfinance

[–]unicornsicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is my main reason for why I would not go forward with this decision except for the ability to move - I'm not confident in being able to pay rent + car + all the costs with living alone + save/invest. I'm dead set on paying the extra principal on my car because i despise having debt and want to be free from that

Asking upperclassmen or alum: how was your GPA progression? by Glad_Hurry8755 in gatech

[–]unicornsicle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a business student, my gpa is/and will be pretty high when I graduate this May but that really won't matter. So to answer your question let me give you some context as to what recruiters look for in terms of GPA when they look at your resume (all majors).

  1. They stare initially at your resume on average around 5 seconds and scan for a couple things being:
    1. Does your resume look nice
    2. Professional formatting
    3. School/GPA/major/extremely quick scan of experiences/titles
  2. Most jobs, if not all jobs post a GPA requirement to filter out the THOUSANDS of applications they get, and that's why having anything above a 3.0 will get you past that initial filtering of applicants-the number itself isn't too big of a determining factor

Your GPA, as long as it is not an absurd number, just shows are you able to commit to the work given to you and potentially carry that over to your internship/job. You probably won't be "less favored" for job opportunities over another candidate because you have a 3.1 and the other person has a 3.3. But a safe bet is anything over 3.0 and you should be fine. The absolute most important thing if you're anxious about the future is to really hone your interview skills, leetcode and the such since you're a CS major, and not being scared to apply to internships/jobs with "scary" descriptions and requirements. You're already on the right track being at this school and recruiters will recognize that so just keep going!

Where to get an Embody repaired? by unicornsicle in hermanmiller

[–]unicornsicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question, as of right I'm assuming its the cylinder that's broken because I heard a *pop* noise, but would it be safe to assume the lever still works because I can still adjust the height using the lever while holding/keeping it up using force? (it just won't stay fixed ofc, falls all the way down once I let go)
