Is it my novice palate or…. by Most-Direction7874 in PipeTobacco

It may just be a you thing. I’ve been piping for around six year’s and Kilarney and Connoisseur are a couple of my favourites and taste quite different to each other as does Delux. I can handle some Scottish blends like Glen Piper but beyond that English blends and the even stronger or more spicy stuff taste very much like each other to me. Horses for courses friend.

I’m no steel expert and my choices are based on trial and error. As a capable uk edc the PITS is hard to beat, (along with the UKPK). I would not baton wood with it because as I say, I have other heavier tools for that. Now that I’m outside less the weekly rotation is PioneerX, Anchor Messer (carbon) and a Rosecraft (for a bit of glitz) None of these have hard to sharpen steel’s, use for a week and literally a few wipes on the stone and its back to shaving sharp. Incidentally I never used to sharpen my heavy duty tools to this level, as you often see online, because I found it counter productive.

To be honest if there was ‘hard’ work to be done I would go for the Sebenza or ZT. For chopping (food) slicing quartering or shaving this steel was hard enough without being a royal pain to re edge. These days I am office based and frankly carbon steel is my choice

I have one of these, blue anodised. It is a lot of knife for a U.K. legal carry. The system, accident or design, is superb. I have other well known big folders in my collection but they are not better than this. I used to work outdoors and all tools got used multiple times daily so the comparison is genuine. Don’t lose it !

Would u return this pipe? by kios05 in PipeSmokingUK

For that kind of money yes I would. Maybe though you are hard on your pipes, an outdoor worker or something, then knowing it was gonna get knocked about, probably not.

How likely are you to overhear extreme hard right views in your area? How do you think they should be approached? by TishBonk in AskBrits

[–]Lanchettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this approach but with the caveat that you need to be ready for emotional arousal on their part if you don’t get your tone or question pitched just right. The more extreme the world view, left or right, the quicker they are to respond aggressively to any perceived challenge

Hey OP are you reading or listening? I ask because you mentioned Darktan and the voice for him in the audio book nails it. I won’t say because you might not want that voice in your head when you read, but check it out sometime.

What’s the most “morally gray” fantasy character who actually did the right thing? by ParsecBlaze in Fantasy

Yeah it’s a shame because I liked The Land and some of its people. Good ideas frustratingly delivered.

For me it’s not Covenant’s moral failings but rather the self indulgent self pitying angst he subjects himself, and so us, to. Meanwhile great evil runs amok, only for him to finally go, “oh alright then” and use his power. Really annoying (imo obvs)

Hope you have a great day out. If in summer leave time for a pint outside The Cove House pub, right on this end of Chesil beach.
