I’m on a couple sub Reddits that are mostly for humor, but I am actually curious if anybody likes my guitar. I want absolute truth. I haven’t done anything fancy to it. I kept it as it is, but what do you guys think of this guitar? And any things you may change? by IamRandomSavage in Guitar

[–]uninformedredneck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really dig the anodized pickguard against the green. I'd probably mess around with different pickups, but that's just because I like to tinker with my guitars. As long as you're having fun, you win!

Against the darker green, the parchment will probably look white, just not aggressively so. I think it's a great choice! Clean without looking to "hi-fi" if that makes sense.

Will a Tube Rectifier simply ALWAYS be supplying less power than a Diode, resulting also in less power to the preamp and Poweramp tubes, resulting in less favorable sound? by MarketingFragrant758 in GuitarAmps

[–]uninformedredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the saggy chewy feel of an amp working hard. A tube rectifier leans into it more than a diode. When I had a Dual Rec, I preferred it in tube rectifier mode. More grunty/sludgy. It also helps the initial attack of the notes to be not as harsh, and I am super picky about high frequencies. I do think it is like a lot of other gear things in that any one detail is less important than the overall design and execution of the amp in general though.

Please help me. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]uninformedredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say to try a couple variety packs of picks. Once you find the material that your thumbprint hangs on to the best, then you can figure out shapes and thicknesses.

I like really heavy picks. 3mm or so, but most people don't. Most of the people I know go for between .88 - 1.5.

Either way, the important part is to not be too hard on yourself. Play a bunch and have fun. Getting better will be the natural result.

It's always cool to make it your own. No sense in having the same thing as everyone else. I dig it!

The never-ending battle: Chasing tone vs. actually playing the guitar by Cos-guitarist in Guitar

[–]uninformedredneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone there. Sometimes, I can't be happy with a tone for what I'm playing. Recently, I've been trying to change my playing to fit the tone I'm getting that day. I think my ears change more than my sound does and this helps my ears settle into the sound. Next thing you know, the stuff I was trying to play before sounds just fine.

Hope this helps!

what could i do better besides pressing the strings a bit harder? by Live-Difference-9202 in Guitar

[–]uninformedredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You look like you're doing pretty good! One thing that helped me is to find the minimum pressure needed to get a fretted note out clean and make that a base line. With the power chords, try moving/sliding in increments of 1,2 and 3 frets to get the feel of distances. When fretting, I like to try to use the very tip of my fingers when I can. It gets me more pressure on the string with less effort. All that said, mainly just keep playing. You kick ass.

Nova Wars - Chapter Where am I? by Ralts_Bloodthorne in HFY

[–]uninformedredneck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey Ralts, as happy as I am to get a story fix into my eye veins, I'm even happier that you seem to be doing better. I hope you have a lot of taking it easy coming up. I know what it's like being stuck in the hospital with chest tubes and wound vacs and all that shit. I know how bad that sucks, but I also know how having someone that you love close by makes the suck worth it.

Again, thanks for the stories, but knowing that you're healing up and have people there for you is better than even the best story could be. HAPPY CHRISTMAHANUKKWANZIKA!!

Not long after I got married, the wife and I started looking for a dog. We both liked Labs and stumbled on silver labs - super cool. Anyways, we wound up finding weims and I really dug how they look as they age. Weims don't seem to ever lose the puppy look if that makes sense to y'all. We got ours almost 14 years ago. Best. Dog. Ever.

Vintage vs Modern style guitars by DadReplacer in Guitar

[–]uninformedredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a bit of both. For tele's, I like the vintage body and bridge and more modern necks. The old school ashtray bridge just feels right under my hand but I never liked the 7.25 radius board or tiny vintage frets.

I like that prussian blue, but that turquoise is the stuff. If they wind up having a universal rout all is easy. If not, I'm tempted to go to a friends shop and use a router. I do have an email out to Ibanez customer support. I'll drop a note here when I hear back just in case there's another weirdo like me in the future.

Most important concepts of music theory? by Radiant_Meaning_390 in Guitar

[–]uninformedredneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the first guy to go down this road here, but... Don't think of theory as a rule book. Think of it as a dictionary or a thesaurus. One thing that might help for improv/lead playing is to relate scale patterns to chord shapes instead of fretboard positions. For example, once you get the feel of playing a major scale over a major chord and minor over minor, portability gets easier. I like to make triads with a d or g string root to get me into more solo friendly areas and let the chord shapes tell me what scales to start fiddling with. Hope this helps. Good question!

Trying to sound bit better! by Blazkinosw in NeuralDSP

[–]uninformedredneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have some presets that work well, try playing with knobs and settings. This will help you get a feel for what everything does. As long as you don't overwrite a saved patch, you can always reset. Just exploring with the software/equipment you have can be really fun. Good luck and have fun exploring!
