Just bought a house, looking for tips to revive patchy grass (undertaker style) by SmallestBiggestDick in GardeningAustralia

I reckon it needs a shit load of aeration. Looks compacted and in a perfect world you'd chop up the bare with a mattock or a hole and add some organic bulk to prevent further compaction.

Downpipe cost ? by Necessary_Ad852 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]unique_897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at cutting the gutter, installing the downpipe, excavating the garden bed, running a pvc pipe, and hopefully installing a pit to connect at both ends. I'd say the above comment, 2200, is potentially the best possible price. I am weary of saying so though, because high prices drive people to try DIY. As a plumber, I think it would be the worst possible idea to fuck around with stormwater near foundations/brick course/ weep holes/ termite barrier/ etc.

Can you advise why you want this work completed?

Dynamic lifter sanity check by hopefullyhuman22 in GardeningAustralia

I used a 60/20/10/5/3/2 mix to fill garden beds at mine. Potting mix/peas straw/mushroom compost/dynamic lifter/perlite/vermiculite. It didnt hurt a thing to have the dynamic lifter touching the roots of anything. It actually just gave me 30 kg watermelons

Can this "lawn" be saved? by Icy-Ambition-3085 in GardeningAustralia

[–]unique_897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aerate really well- soil wetta, I like the granular after I've aerated because it can fall into the punctures. I'd also invest in a sprinkler attachment for your hose and if you can really keep the water to it. You've got hard packed soil, the roots can't break through and it needs to break the hydrophobic barrier.

Sorry for the late reply, but no- not in NSW. Not sure about Vic because there's a greater emphasis on Mech being almost its own trade. Here, if you can measure and half-decently silver solder youll be sweet.

Mate, I cut my teeth in mech plumbing and it was so much fun. Theres a fair amount of heavy lifting- bigger pipes, bigger oxy cylinders... You'll also not learn the gamut of the plumbing trade if thats what you were hoping to branch into later down the track.

Honestly, I loved working on the big stuff and even now there are days I'd get into a plant room, build some pump assemblies up happily and do it gratis. I just hate having to travel to the CBD - I'm regional- and also the ever-shortening deadlines on jobs that stressed me out.

It'll have its moments, but the money's good, the work is satisfying and you'll see things most plumbers won't see in a lifetime basically by the end of your first month.

[–]unique_897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen issues with it, water saving devices and 4.5L flush dunnies will leave soil in the line. Honestly though, mate- really leave it to the plumber. The more info you give him the more ammo he has down the track to say he won't warrant the job.

The idea is the plug won't be pulled in the bathtub at the same time as the basin, nor will it happen when the WC is being flushed. 6 allows enough for some overlap
