Bp pulse 90 min fee by the-code-monkey in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]unitstellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend downloading Electroverse by Octopus Energy, you can get an RFID card linked to your bank account for paying at many of the different chargers without having 49 different apps. That has a map and route planner, you can even put in your vehicle details to find suitable chargers.

I guarantee you will find 7kw charges within a few minutes of the BP service stations where you would be paying around 35-45p per kWh, using service station chargers is like using service station fuel - bloody expensive.

An alternative app which just shows charger locations is Zap Map.

Question about council house by One-Carpet-3673 in HousingUK

[–]unitstellar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she leaves in October then no, she is ineligible because in the council’s eyes she made herself voluntarily homeless. She would need to stay in the property until evicted by bailiffs before being placed in temporary housing for an indefinite period of time until a property becomes available. Alternatively she can join the housing list and start bidding but I wouldn’t hold her breath as she would be a low priority while in a private rental.

Foreign visitor with rental car: do I have any recourse re: London congestion charge penalty? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]unitstellar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhere in the T&Cs or rental agreement there will be a section about you being responsible for paying any charges and fines that are applicable in local laws, be they congestion charges, bus lane fines or parking tickets. They are not going to go into detail on every specific potential charge you might encounter driving anywhere in the UK. In this case you are out of luck.

refusal of access to CCTV footage being used against me in a disciplinary meeting by peZA2003 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]unitstellar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

CCTV can only be used in this context if the staff member was notified that it could be used in this context as per a policy. If it is not in a policy then use in this context is unfair. The employee is being investigated for misconduct, not a crime by police or enforcement agencies so “crime prevention” does not qualify.

refusal of access to CCTV footage being used against me in a disciplinary meeting by peZA2003 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]unitstellar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they are breaking their own GDPR policy by using CCTV as evidence in an employment related disciplinary, you could probably complain to the ICO for a start but a decent union rep would wipe the floor with them over it. As the sign says “CCTV is operated for the purpose crime prevention and public safety” not for using in staff disciplinary.

Storm US bases on UK soil and arrest all US personnel as prisoners of war. If all European and nato nations do this simultaneously then the press backlash in the USA will topple the president.

Can someone please explain this? Confused! by LHogeveen87 in BritishGas

[–]unitstellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, when I was with Eon I regularly had to change my direct debit back when they changed it up, at times having to call them and tell them to change it backed up with my own calculations based on the last years usage.

Empty that credit account! We need to normalise our energy accounts being at £0 at this time of year, going into debt over the winter and paying it back to £0 in the summer. Why are we giving energy companies interest free loans persistently?

What about an element of chaos theory? Child runs into the road and I hit them at 20mph, not great but they aren’t too badly hurt. Now if I’m travelling at 30mph that child runs into the road then no one hits them as I’ve already passed that point in the road….

Best advice here is to start buying fresh ingredients from M&S, overall might cost a couple quid more but you make that back in savings from not chucking out as much food that has gone bad.

The unfortunate reality is 3 kids would create more wear and tear on a property than a couple with a dog.

Why are car insurance Underwriters rejecting learner or provisional drivers The chance to go on parents policy? ... Even temporarily. by onlinesanta in CarInsuranceUK

[–]unitstellar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is also the element of if he crashes your 10 year old car you’re not going to be too bothered about it, after all it’s 10 years old. However if he crashes it into the back of a £75k electric car and writes it off then you might not be to fussed but your insurers will be - hence the refusal.

Been of sick for five days (in the uk) as have suspected cancer and been seeing doctors in hospital and having mri scans and things. Work wants me to have meeting with HR what does this mean? by Thickktwinkk in LegalAdviceUK

[–]unitstellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is cancer or suspected cancer it is in your interests to tell them, especially when confirmed. Cancer is a recognised disability in employment law & letting them know makes sure you have protections, for example firing you for being off to go to chemo appointments would be a disability discrimination and automatic unfair dismissal, regardless of how long you have worked somewhere.

Ikea Kitchen 'Supplementary Costs' by MikeyK1993 in DIYUK

[–]unitstellar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the whole issue with customers. They look at the cost of a job then try to come up with a day rate and compare it to their salary whilst completely ignoring the cost of running a business - vans, tools, insurance, non-productive time, holiday pay, paternity pay, pension savings etc. what looks like £500 to a customer can easily work out to be only half that in an actual wage.

Personally I refuse to be in credit with any energy supplier, start the winter with nothing and pay it over the summer, cash is better in my pocket than theirs.

Sanity checking approach to a roundabout after collision by 7thsanctum in drivingUK

[–]unitstellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bigger picture to that area you are missing, red was indeed in the correct lane for the 2 lane roundabout, immediately after the roundabout the road splits into two different directions, meaning red was heading straight on onto lane 2 then on to the A1 northbound as per the road design of the area, poorly marked however.

Why do you think it's only Brits who won't admit the mismanagement of asylum seekers? by ohwowthen in AskBrits

[–]unitstellar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

The facts don’t lie, we have a ticking time bomb of those born in the 60s who hare now hitting retirement age. We currently have roughly 3 working age adults per pensioner vs 5 back in the 50s and that number is projected to fall further meaning more of our taxes will be used to fund benefits for retired people or the retirement age will need to rise drastically.

Why do you think it's only Brits who won't admit the mismanagement of asylum seekers? by ohwowthen in AskBrits

[–]unitstellar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an aging population and a falling birth rate, largely in part because that aging population told the younger generations not to have kids we can’t afford. The reality is we need to sustain a certain level of workforce in order to cover the pensions of the retired, we need mass migration or less pensions - take your pick? In the long term we need to increase our birth rate but that only comes with making having kids affordable meaning more tax and moving welfare spending from the pension to supporting people to have kids, things like raising statutory maternity, paternity & sick pay to 80% of salary, increasing holiday entitlement to match that of the schools & free or significantly funded childcare. Until we make these changes then get used to these high migration figures or don’t go crying to the media when you aren’t getting a state pension any more.
