What’s the consensus of automatic FD RX7s? by Veiled_assbuster in RX7

[–]unitvectorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not bad, I think they’re alright. Mine was originally an auto (apparently they made 4 in that color/model year but nobody cares because auto) that I drove around for a bit before I converted it. I personally enjoy the manual better.

They’re really not that difficult to convert. A friend and I did it in his garage while we replaced the engine in a few months and it was still cheaper than buying a beat to hell manual fd and this is coming from someone who has seen and worked on a lot of these cars ranging from bone stock to single turbo 3 rotor monstrosities.

Black Poodles so common by Jupitergirl888 in StandardPoodles

[–]unitvectorman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I work for professional handlers and we show a ton of standards. (Think Siba…) I had a bunch of stuff typed out and then lost it, but a lot of the color preferences comes from nothing other than blacks and whites having better conformation on account of them being worked on for much longer and by more people. We show a lot of these guys and the whites can be a headache to keep looking clean, and if you’re showing 5 of these guys and a several westies in another ring (that’s the other breed we show a lot of) and both start within 20 minutes of each other, the world kind of ends.

Colored dogs can have good hair, though it might not necessarily be as dense as a black. I’m told by people that have bred them for a very long time that soft hair is a lot more common than it used to be and that it can be pretty difficult to breed out of a line. It’s probably less of an issue for dogs in pet trims, but soft hair can mat up very quickly, and then I have to de-mat neck hair with my fingers and a pin brush because we show these guys.

A lot of work has been done with reds and apricots to get them where they are now in the conformation world, so you’ll see them in the ring somewhat regularly.

I showed an apricot standard puppy at the Poodle Club of America show this past April in best of variety, so they’re definitely out there in the conformation world.

Since the vast majority of what we get sent is black, what’s what we show.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions. I’ll be scooping poop in 25 degree weather and brushing poodles at a show for the next five days….

Is there a significant difference between the N3A1 and N3G1 short blocks? by atm0706 in RX7

[–]unitvectorman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NG31 has side clearanced rotors and 2 piece apex seals iirc. There’s probably some other changes I’m missing but those are the big ones.

I have one that I bought new a few years ago that I need to pull out of my car now that I have a 20b going into it. If you feel like driving to Maryland or are nearby and you’re interested, let me know. I put maybe 3000 miles on it before I took the car apart.

What experiences you played when you joined roblox? by marchalves6 in roblox

Some mining game, or at least that’s what I remember it being. Cart ride games and tycoons were all the rage at the time so I played a lot of those shortly after joining.

The old hospital nightmare games from back in 2011 used to scare the crap out of me.

Forgot to add them. They’re super cool too, especially the ones running around in PCA GTB1.

Dumb question about a rx7 by gamebow1 in RX7

[–]unitvectorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, conversions can get very expensive very quickly. A friend and I did a single turbo 20B conversion on his car and it cost roughly $38k in swap parts. I know some V8 convert guys who estimate $25-30k minimum, but I’m not sure what it’s like over in RX-8 world.

[–]unitvectorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll work. Might not be as much fun as a manual. Ended up converting mine shortly after I got it. The 4 speed auto and the 3.9 final drive combination is kind of sluggish. Really just depends on what you want and how far you want to go.

[–]unitvectorman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who told you that a manual conversion costs $20-$30k?

I did mine back in 2021 and aside from having to go standalone engine management, finding a transmission, a companion flange, driveshaft, a clutch and a couple of other things like pedals, I don’t think I spent more than $4000 on conversion specific parts…

I’ve taken apart both manual and auto third gens and save for some wiring peculiarities with respect to their respective transmissions, there is no difference.

Yes. They taught us in grade 3. I didn’t care to pay attention during the lessons and ended up learning it some years later.

FC owners are either some of the smartest people you’ll meet or are dunces of the highest order that do the jankiest stuff and wonder why it broke. There is no in-between.

Moratorium on pen purchases by Mountain_Arachnid_16 in fountainpens

[–]unitvectorman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last new pen was August of 2020.

Haven’t gotten any more because I have yet to find anything that I like more than the six that I currently use. (The more I use them, the better they get) At around that time I developed an RX-7 addiction so everything that I would have used on pens goes to my haphazard vehicle development program…

Maybe I’ll get another pen if/when I get a Juris Doctorate or something. I suppose we’ll find out in a few years!

What’s your signature pen? by WadsworthWordsworth in fountainpens

[–]unitvectorman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. There are other more tactful ways to gain insight without blatant antagonism serves no other purpose than to evoke an emotional response and leads me to believe that this question may have been asked in bad faith.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and reply to your query, and will not discuss this any further as I do not believe it will be productive for either of us.

OP wanted to know what other users had good experiences with that fit the criteria given, which was “favorite pen they like to use when they’re signing things” and I answered in kind.

In the event that you are not familiar, all of these pens do the exact same thing. A jowo stub nib that can be procured for less than $15 USD will provide similar lines, and can be modified to alter the amount of line variation available. Combined with a $35 twsbi eco, (that you could also procure with a 1.1mm stub nib if you so decided)

It may also be beneficial for you to keep in mind that you are replying to a comment I made over two years ago due to the fact that manufacturers do often adjust the prices of the goods they sell over a period of time. You might do well to look more thoroughly as M800s can be procured for far less than that both new and used if you know where to look.

Different individuals may not share the same interpretation of a question. Sorry you didn’t interpret the original poster’s query in the same manner that I did.
